The first time we played
Act of Aggression we were a bit confused by the route our units were taking after ordering a move command. At first it wasn't really clear why some of the units where take a long detour instead of going straight to the location you ordered them.
A beautiful road in it's natural habitat. As with a lot of things, the reason is quite simple. The shortest route isn't always the fastest route! This is caused by
Roads being in the game. Units in the game actually travel faster while on a
Road. Whenever you execute a move command, the game calculates the fastest way to get to that destination. If your units have to travel over a longer distance, they will usually use
Roads to get to their destination. Although this is not new for people that played
Wargame, it is quite a unique feature in the RTS genre.
Be careful and smart!
Units always choose the fastest route to a location. This means an ambush can easily be set up around crossroads. So travel carefully! It also works the other way around. By making sure you have a garrisoned building near a chokepoint, you will get an advantage during a fight.
It is easy to identify roads in-game, for the simple reason that they look exactly like... roads! They are also clearly identified on the minimap. The lines that move over the minimap cover the network of roads on that specific map.
