Battlefield 3 is the direct successor to 2005's critically acclaimed Battlefield 2 and the 11th release in the first person shooter franchise. The game is currently in development by EA Digital Illusion CE (DICE) and is expected to be released on October 25 2011 for the PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3; following a multiplatform Beta in September.

The Frostbite 2.0 engine allows for improved environmental destruction, graphics and sound compared to Bad Company 2, which uses Frostbite 1.5. Battlefield 3 will incorporate the ANT character animation system currently used in the FIFA franchise.
Battlefield 3 is one of this year's most anticipated, having won 40 Awards at E3 2011 including "Best of Show awards" from IGN, Game Informer and X-Play and is currently available for pre-order.
System RequirementsWhilst DICE has yet to officially release system requirements, Johan Andersson, a Rendering Architect at DICE has suggested that they will be broadly similar to Battlefield: Bad Company 2 with the key exception that Frostbite 2.0 does not support DirectX 9 and hence Battlefield 3 will not run on Windows XP.
