Rohan vs Gondor Master Guide

By Daemon - 27th March 2007 - 17:07 PM

Strategy One

Now this strategy is all about what to do if you know Gandalf is going to come out before you can get early ents. The idea behind this is to build an army to counter Gandalf before any attempt to ent Gondor. Try to keep Gondor's economy at a minimum by having at least 1 more battalion of horses than your opponent does. Most Gondors will make 3 Knights, so you should have 4 Rohirrim battalions to make sure you keep map control.

After all of the creeps are gone the game will mainly consist of you and your opponent running to each other's farms and destroying them. This is when you have to have very good macro (controling many all of your units within a short period of time). You should know where your opponent's knights and, more importantly your own Rohirrim are at all times. Destroying farms to keep your opponent from getting power points is critical in this match-up. It is much better to destroy your farm too early than too late. So destroy your farms as soon as knights start to attack it.

During the time you are tyring to take control of the map, you should also be making fire arrows from your archery range and making your Rohirrim Archers.

After about 10 minutes of fighting for map control you should expect to see Gandalf the White roaming around the map. Try to keep as much of the map as possible with your Rohirrim, while also trying to find out where his Gandalf the White is at all times. If you see him going for one of your Rohirrim then make sure to take advantage of this with your other Rohirrim by taking out his farms where his Gandalf isn't at.

Now this is very hard for Rohan, because a Gondor player will usually make rangers, tower guards, trebuchets, or a combination of them. You must kill trebuchets with your Rohirrim and target Gandalf with your Rohirrim Archers and Legolas. If Gandalf is not heading towards your main army, target the units with the most range (either trebuchets or archers). You should always spread out your Rohirrim archers to keep trebuchets and Gandalf's wizard blast from killing as many units as possible.

Don't forget; while you are attacking Gandalf with your rohirrim archers, use a hero's special abilty such as Legolas' hawk strike on him, too.

Once you have taken most of the map and have enough money to purchase ents, you should do so as soon as possible. Ents should always throw rocks instead of directly attacking the wall due to their vulnerability to trebuchets and Gandalf. If your opponent has many trebuchets, it is best to buy Treebeard to give extra range to your ents throwing rocks. This will force your opponent to move his Trebuchets out of his base to kill your ents.

*Always have the Elven Wood power point bought just in case. Gondor players are cheeky and they may lay land just as Gandalf is about to wizard blast, so make sure you have it ready to click on when Gandalf approaches. The key here is to try to get Gondor to waste his land by using about half of your army to lure him in. At the last second, move your units out of the way and avoid his wizard's blast. This all depends on how well the host is. So if you do have host then you should always try it, but if his host isn't very good then don't bother.
