As many people know, the Guardian's Charge Attack ability, which is acquired at level two, grants them an armor and speed boost, allowing them to trample over enemy units. Most players use this to defend Mine Shafts from harassing units, which works quite effectively. However, this Tip of the Week is about an alternative usage for the Charge Attack ability - clumping.
Using the Guardian's Charge Attack to Clump
+
The Guardian's Charge Attack is mainly used against units, but you can in fact select the target as a building. Why would you do so? To clump on that building. As many players probably recall, one of the key transitions from being an utter noob to being anywhere near decent at Battle for Middle-earth II is learning to clump to deal more damage to buildings in less time. If you don't clump, you'll never be as good as the rest of the community. This tip will not tell you how to clump normally, but if that is what you are looking for, look no further. Instead this tip will inform you on how to clump using the Guardian's Charge Attack, it's quite simple:
Simply move your Guardian close to the building you wish to clump.
Select Charge Attack (hotkey is E).
Select the building you wish to clump.
Attack (right-click) the building once your battalion is properly clumped.
Many of you may now be thinking, "So what? It's already really easy to clump. What's the big deal?" This next section will allay your worries.
Clumping With Charge Attack vs. Normal Clumping
There are quite a few benefits to clumping with Charge Attack versus normal clumping. Here they are:
It takes less time. Clumping with Charge Attack takes considerably less time, since your Guardians gain a speed boost as they chage forwards towards the desired structure.
Your units gain a defense boost. When a Guardian uses Charge Attack, it gains a 20% defense boost. This additional defense could be the difference between destroying the building and not, especially if enemy units lurk nearby.
The battalion will clump more efficiently. Clumping using Charge Attack will actually produce a better clumping of the battalion than normal clumping, making more units adjacent to the structure. This will allow you to destroy it much faster.
Keep these three points in mind while watching the accompanying video.
