Elven Fortress Guide Released

By KingSpillBlood - 19th October 2008 - 16:00 PM

Our Senior Discussion Moderator, Xenai, has taken it upon himself to create a guide about the Elven Fortress. With great overviews of the purposes, expansions, upgrades, and recruiting abilities of this grand and revered structure, there is sure to be something to help you keep your Keep. Enjoy!

The Fortress is the most important building for each faction. It is the first and last line of defense and, suitably, the largest and most imposing. It allows the use of power point spells, and from it you can recruit heroes and builders. All these abilities are inherent in the Fortress at the beginning of any match, however, there are many upgrades that can be purchased to further augment a Fortress's potential, making it even more invaluable.

The Fortress Itself

At the very start of the game, the Fortress is already a formidable building. It has 7500 health and the strongest armor type in the game, making it very hard to kill. It shoots a single arrow which deals structural and pierce type damage (This arrow is exactly the same as the arrow that a Tower fires), and is effective at discouraging early-game harassment, though it won't stop a determined attack. Try to build your first few buildings with the range of Fortress fire to protect them from harassment. Though it is very strong, the Fortress is not invincible, especially without upgrades, so you should be careful not to forget to protect it. If you do lose the Fortress, it will cost you 5000 resources to replace, and is builds very, very slowly.

Recruiting Heroes and Builders

One of the basic functions of the fortress is to recruit heroes and builders. Elven heroes are some of the best in the game, so this is a very important feature. Once you lose the Fortress, you won't be able to recruit or revive heroes until it is rebuilt, which is a potentially fatal blow to an Elven player. If you lose all your builders while the fortress is down, you won't be able to build any buildings for the rest of the game. Multiple heroes can be built or revived at the same time, however, heroes, builders, and internal upgrades cannot be building at once. Builders will always take precedence over heroes or upgrades, and heroes will finishing building before an upgrade, but it is not suggested to queue so many items at one time.

Using Power Points

Power points are also tied to the Fortress. The location of the Fortress does not limit their range in any way, but you must have a Fortress somewhere on the map to use a power. You cannot change the effects of your powers by upgrading the Fortress, and you will stop recharging powers if you lose the Fortress. If you are going to lose the Fortress, try to use all of your recharged powers before it goes down.
