Overview
The MP5 is the basic Submachine Gun (SMG) for the Special Ops class in Call of Duty 4. Its small and simple structure allows for quick mobility and fast reload times, which is something that's very important both in the virtual and real world. Even though it is small, this gun packs a lot of damage when used correctly and effectively.
The Sights
As with all other guns, the sights on this weapon contain the same three options. However with this weapon each sight reacts differently because of its overall size and power.
Regular Gun SightsCompared to other guns like the M16A4, the sights on the MP5 are a lot easier to see and are more distinct. Unlike the M16, it's generally easier to see the sights and place them on a target. This is because it's a circle with a somewhat thick tab on the end of the gun, which allows you to simply place the tab on your target and fire away. These sights are also very similar to those used on the G36C and G3 because it's made by the same manufacturer.
Red Dot ScopeLike many of the guns in Call of Duty 4, the Red Dot Scope makes targeting a lot easier. If the aim sight on the MP5 doesn't suit you, unlocking the RDS is your best bet. Using the RDS on this weapon seems perfectly natural and without them you feel a sense of nakedness. Because of the range and combat you'll be facing with this weapon, I strongly suggest using the RDS because it opens up your panoramic view when aiming down the sight. The regular gun sights seem to block this view a lot more and can be a negative factor in close quarters combat (CQC) or other awkward combat situations.
ACOG ScopeDue to the relatively short distance the bullet travels after leaving the barrel of the MP5, the ACOG is virtually useless. The fact an ACOG scope takes up the entire view of your surroundings is a negative impact as well. Overall, I highly recommend you never use the ACOG scope with this weapon because of the individual range and general usage of the weapon. The RDS is a better choice for several reasons stated in the Red Dot Scope section.
Accuracy
The MP5 is a very accurate and powerful in both in close quarters combat and medium range, however the farther your target the less accurate your weapon will be. Because of the size of the MP5, its power required to shoot a bullet of its tiny barrel is increased. When compared with range and recoil, the accuracy of the MP5 is terrible for medium to long range. It is possible however for a good shot to pick up anyone from long range when the time is taken.
RecoilThis weapon has little to no recoil because of it's size. In order to be more accurate however, it's suggested that you fire in short bursts. The longer you fire the weapon, the more recoil you will receive. Recoil greatly affects the accuracy of any weapon and needs to be taken into consideration when firing the weapon at any range.
RangeHow far away you are from your target or the enemy needs to be a very important consideration you make before firing. With the MP5, in order to achieve the best accuracy you need to be within a close to medium range. When outside of this range, your bullets will stray away because of the laws of physics. The farther your bullet goes, the more energy and power it will lose. A 9mm round can only go so far from the small muzzle of an MP5. The ideal range of the MP5 is a room or building clearing situation. Any other situation such as an open field is a terrible scenario for anyone using an MP5.
Targeting
Finding out where to hit your enemy is generally an important thing to know, especially when considering what weapon you are using. Each weapon is different in the way it fires and the amount of damage and impact it makes once entering a human body. The MP5 fires a 9mm pistol round out of a fifteen or thirty round magazine. While these bullets are small, when multiple hit a single target you can and will go down fast. Because of the bullet size of this weapon, the recoil will be very little. With this in consideration, in Call of Duty 4 you can aim at a person's neck, fire the weapon, then hit the person in the head. When firing the MP5, remember this rule and you will get plenty of headshots.
Attachments
Because of this weapon's size, there is only a small amount of attachments it can use. Since most of the attachments are covered in the Sights section of this guide, the only one we can cover here is the Silencer, the tool anyone who loves stealth will use.
SilencerThe silencer is key for anyone trying to sneak behind enemy lines and kill quietly. While the silencer is a tool I normally recommend, for the MP5 I would strongly recommend against it. The MP5's range is already short enough, however when placing the silencer onto the gun the range is reduced even further. Because the rounds have to be suppressed, some of the energy and power is taken around from the bullet as it leaves the muzzle, forcing the range to fall shorter than usual. The only scenario the Silencer is ideal for is room clearing or any other close quarters combat in which you wish not to be heard.
Suggested Perks
This section will cover perks that I believe are very useful when using the MP5 in Call of Duty 4. This is purely based on my opinion and does not by any means limit what perks are effective when using the MP5. Feel free to experiment on your own to figure what perks work and what perks don't work with the MP5.
BandolierThis perk is perfect for anyone using an SMG or assault rifle. Initially in Call of Duty 4, you receive very little ammo and if you stay alive for a very long time, you can and will run out of ammunition. In nearly any case, this means death and less time taken away from playing. To decrease the chances of this happening, Bandolier gives you more magazines than usual, allowing you to get more ammo for your killing sprees. With the MP5, you can easily run out of ammo without even realizing it.
Stopping PowerAlthough the MP5 itself is already a decently powerful gun, Stopping Power makes it absolutely lethal. When using this perk you can hit and kill an individual with as little as two to three bullets, allowing you to effectively clear a room or alleyway of enemies. When used in conjunction with Bandolier, you are able to take out five to eight enemies with one clip.
Steady AimUsing Steady Aim for any weapon can be a bonus. Steady Aim allows you to fire more accurate from the hip, which means you don't even pull up your sights. For close quarters combat with the MP5, this can be very useful especially when you're spooked by an unexpected encounter. This perk is best used with the MP5 in these or other close quarters situations; however, outside of these Steady Aim is practically useless and should be treated in for something.
