So you have bought Command and Conquer Generals,what next?

Well i suggest you install it for starters,easy to do really you will have your disc from either your TFD(The First Decade) or from Your basic Generals or Deluxe,run the install program and start up generals and your ready to go.

Now to play online! Start by selecting "multiplayer" then "online" and it will bring you to a screen like this one:







Fill in all the required information and then create a name,creating a name can sometimes be a challenge but look to things you like for inspiration,take for example my name "ScOtSmAn" inspired by my country as i was watching a football game when i created it and they happened to be playing.

Once you have a name and all the information set up its time to go online! You will start by seeing this screen here:



Just ignore it as its useless and the players online is never right and usually always remains at 0 so just continue on to either custom match ( will take you into the lobby's and where most of the games a re played)Or quick match(not really recommended as you will not likely find a good opponent there and playing people who know little of the game will not help you improve!

Now you have an account and you will see your record or stats,lots of people see these as very important and its the only reason they play the game. This is stupid as it means nothing about your skill level as there are many ways to get wins ie playing bad players! Here a screen of a typical stats noob.



So select custom match and it will take you into one of the lobbies most of witch are not used anymore but i would advise you to select the "2v2 lobby" as thats where most players do reside and your likely to find a good game there/challenging opponent or a Clanwars.cc game (i will go further into that soon)



You will see a lot of rules games/mod maps and such but do not be pulled in by them as they involve less skill than brushing your teeth and most mod maps are horribly designed and constructed.Playing official maps is the way to go and you will improve all aspects of your game through playing good official players and learning,but its not the only way to learn as posting replays here at gamereplays.org either in the strategy sections or the replay section will get you valuable feedback on ways to improve.

So i guess now is a good time to explain about replays! I will start by showing you where your replays folder is,very easy to find if you look in the right places,start by going to MyDocuments>CommandAndConquerGeneralsData>Replays but an important note is that you wont have a replay folder until you first play a game and the auto save of the last replay will create the folder.







Now you know where to put the replays,lets get some replays now shall we? There is more than one way to get a replay though you can either play the game yourself and then save after words and then look back at see what things you could have done better or you can use the gamereplays replay system to download an unlimited supply of top class replays from the best players around,look out for the "expert" status as there replays are usually always top drawer.

Then here we have the "Command and Conquer Generals Discussions" Forums where you can discuss generals related things tip of the weeks/mentoring/videos/tournaments and off course vote for hall of fame entries and receive technical support.



Now the "Command and Conquer Generals Replays" where you can post your replays for review from one of our expert reviewers or another member or perhaps you would like to do some reviewing your self?This section also has forums for posting your funny replays "haha" and a game cast forum for having your game commentated on,then there is the map hack forum...yes thats right there is the possibility that you may be cheated against but we are very much against it and will ban users from our forums who are caught cheating.



And finally the "Command and Conquer Generals Strategies, Tactics and Tips"this forum is dedicated to helping people improve and developing strategies and build orders,a very good place to go if you are struggling with a specific match up or are just looking for some advise.



When you are browsing the forums you will notice some members have badges and different member group,usually means they are part of the staff group,here are a few examples just so you know where everyone stands.

Replay Reviewer

The backbone of staff,there job is to moderate the replay forums and do reviews.

Senior Replay Reviewer

Pretty much the same as the RR but with more responsibility's having to find new Replay Reviewers/moderate all the sections and do reports.

Strategy Moderator

Moderates the strategy sections and provides replays/advise for those in need.

Senior Strategy Moderator

In charge of the SM's and will have mod powers in every forum and is also in charge of tip of the week and guides.



Now lets talk about generals,the fact your at our site tells us you want to get better and i have already discussed how the replays work now i think its time to learn a bit about clanwars.

When you first start playing you will find it very hard to win a game as most players are at a very top level,but do not worry as you can use this to your advantage.By playing good players you yourself will become good its a proven fact and often wont take to long to achieve with some practice and maybe a good mentor.

Here is a little information about clanwars that you will find helpful i think,this guide here shows you how to register and pretty much everything you need to get going,when you start to play you will meet new people and probably in no time will join another clan or perhaps create a new one with some friends you have made.

Now the hard part getting some clanwars games,well its not that hard if you know what your doing,start by going into the 2v2 lobby then simply ask "1v1 cw any1?" and if you include the command /me in front of it your text will become pink and therefore stand out more increasing your chance of getting a game versus someone.





Now that you know all the basics give it a few months and you will be a command and conquer generals pro and will be able to right your own guides,its maybe time to check out some of the other guides and features though heres a link to some very useful articles and i hope this was helpful for you and finally i would just like to say good luck general!
