Good Day Generals and Comrades! Today we take a look at the new development of
tod.extinction. In 2013 he developed an essential tool for the 1.06 Community Patch of Zero Hour -
the Report Manager.
Now, 2 years later, he brings us his new toy. So let's have a look at it.
The idea behind the Replay Download Tool
The name of the tool pretty much says it all - it downloads Replays. The Replay source is none other then
the Gentool database itself. The reason why tod.extinction created this tool was to give the community a possibility, to search for Replays of their favorite Players with just a few clicks.
How the tool works
Once you
downloaded the tool, you will get confronted with a .zip file. Just right click on it and extract it to whatever place you want.
In the extracted folder itself are 2 files: An executable file and a text file. To run the program simply click on the executable file. You should see the main menu now:
At the top left corner you can select which Replays you want the tool to search for. Note that it can only search for Replays of one Game at a time.
Right next to it is the path of the Replay folder. Choose here which folder you like to have to store your downloaded Replays. The preset is the path to the Replay folder of your game.
Continuing at the top we have the option "Automatic Check for new Replays". Select between the 3 options:
- Only manual Checks
- Check every 10 mins
- Check at Start
Choose the option which suits you best. Preset is "only manual Checks".
Next we have the "Search Interval". Choose between "Only today" or the last
XX days.
Downloading new Replays
A Replay is considered "new" if it is not already listed in the replay folder. (If it is not new, it will not be mentioned anywhere in the tool.) So if you rename or move the files to another place, the tool considers the replays as "new" again

Searching for the last couple days or more
Searching Replays for more than a few days can take a while. Usually it doesnt matter how many persons you actively subscribe, but this search (which should be done not more than once a day) can take up to 15 min. While searching replays the tool does not respond. Please dont click any buttons (like the "Quit"-button.) Else your search will be done and it quits then. So your search was senseless. Just leave the tool 10 mins alone, as it does not respond anyway.
source
You can add new Players to the table of possible subscriptions by entering the Player Name and the Gentool ID. The Player Name can contain spelling mistakes which means you don't have to copy the exact same Name with all it's ticks, brackets and bars. The Gentool ID however needs to be correct in order to find the correct Player. Don't forget to press "
Add" after filling in everything.
Gentool ID
You can see the Gentool ID of each Player by going to
the Gentool database. Each Player has his unique Gentool ID behind his name. For example "-DoMiNaToR-_MKNMOIRNNMJR/":
-DoMiNaToR- is the Players name and
MKNMOIRNNMJR is the Gentool ID.
Use ">>>" and "<<<" to add or remove Subscriptions. Press "
Delete" to delete Players from the table (Player name must be selected first).
You only want to download 1vs1 Replays? Or maybe you are more into team Replays? No problem! Just type in "1v1" for 1vs1 Replays, "2v2" for 2vs2 matches and "3v3" for 3vs3 team games.
If you prefer to watch Replays which are longer, you can type in the minimum size of a Replay. For example if you want to watch 1vs1 Replays with a minium game lenght of 8 minutes, typing in "65000" (bytes) should give you good results. If you don't care about the length, just type in "0".
When all is done hit the "
Check it!" button and give the tool some time to search. Quitting the tool while the search is still going on is not recommended. Note that the tool will not respond while it's searching for Replays.
After the tool has finished it's search you will see the results in the bottom left corner. You can download the Replays now and enjoy the games of your favorite Players!
You can download the latest version of the program in our Replay Downloader Topic. If you have any feedback about the program or things related to it. Don't hesitate to post your comments..
