Tip of the Week #122 - Grouping MDs and Humvees

By apologize - 4th December 2009 - 16:30 PM

Missile Defenders are the USA factions type of rocket infantry. Because of his ability to laser lock targets, which increase his range and firing frequency, he is the most feared anti vehicle infantry unit in the game. For further discussion on the Missile Defender check out Sparky's terrific MD Guide. Tip of the week #121 deals with properly grouping and using your MD's in conjunction with your Humvees.

Grouping your Missile Defenders and Humvees properly allows the two units to be used to their full potential. This is much easier than simply using your mouse to click, click and click. For Vees and Missile Defenders, most likely, we do not group them. Common practice is to group your Rockvees but not necessarily your Missile Defenders, however it is best to group both so that when your MD's evacuate the Vee you can quickly use them to target multiple units instead of just one or relying on the auto targeting.

We will look at this in three different pieces

-Preparation
-Conflict
-After the conflict

Preparation

Preperation is defined as "The state of having been made ready beforehand." In this instance it means you must prepare your MD's and Humvee's for battle. The following picture provides an example of how to group them.

There are four Humvees in this grouping. There are twelve Missile Defenders divided into four groups of three. The reason for this is to make it easier to quickly load up a Vee. Last but not least, your Humvees need to be grouped. In this instance we've used zero.

Conflict

Now it is time to attack! Take a look at the following picture

You may be wondering "why get out of the Vee and laser lock the Quad Cannons instead of simply microing the Vees?" Chances are your opponent will engage the Vee initially allowing you a few precious seconds to evacuate and laser lock by group. At this point try and pull the Vee that is targeted out of the conflict. If the Quads follow the Vee the MD's will eliminate them. If he is paying attention and retargets on your MD's simply utilize your hotkeys to jump back into the Vees and flee.

Here are the specifics. Press the 0 on your keyboard so that whole Rockvee force is in your order. Then click evacuate your Missile Defenders. After that you

-Press 1 and laser lock a Quad
-Press 2 and laser lock a Quad
-Press 3 and laser lock a Quad
-Press 4 and laser lock the remaining Quad

Simple, easy to do and very effective.

After the conflict

Time to get ready for the next battle. Do any regrouping you need to do in order to get back to full speed, repair any units that need repairing and go hunting for your next victim!
