Welcome Back, Commanders! On Saturday, January 16th 2016 at 13:00 GMT we proudly hosted the Tiberium Wars New Year 1vs1 Tournament.
The new year has welcomed us pretty kindly. We started things off with a small tournament with 9 players signed. It's a humble number of players, but let's hope the next events will be a lot better!
Round of 16
The round was played as a best-of-three format, meaning each team had to beat their opponents twice in order to advance.
There was only one match-up played in the round of 16, and that was between Sh0ckTr34tm3nt and tigerexpert; with Sh0ckTr34tm3nt being the more experienced player and tournament favorite. All in all, it ended with a 2:0 victory for our Expert Player!
Quarter-Finals!
The first competitive game was played between a star of the whole show, Sh0ckTr34tm3nt and popular player and an event organizer ~AngelOfDeath~ ! Having taken a break from the game due to real life commitments; this didn't stop AoD from facing the challenge! However, he was unable to better Sh0ck in this match-up, and was swiftly defeated 2:0.
Our second match was played between Jonycalcinha2 and -ZoRRo! The first one says "Hello!" from time to time in the Tiberium Wars Lobby, so how could it have ended between inactive player and VERY active player? -ZoRRo took home the win, but we can't ignore that Jonycalcinha2 took a game off of him in a 2:1 victory to ZoRRo. Let's congratulate him for the effort against another popular player.
The next match-up was played between another Tiberium Wars Expert whom comes back to us from time to time, Maze, facing off the other active TW & KW player, w3goth3rock3ts! The same situation happened as earlier, Maze took his victory quickly, but the second player still managed to take a game off of one of the best players ever!
Our last match for the round was between Dypl'Oo'Docus and Bert, but unfortunately wasn't played because Dypl'O had to leave the event. All players who won their matches moved successfully into the semi-finals.
Semi-Finals!
Here we go again, another popular semi-finals...with some of the best players possible! These match-ups were looking like they'd be even better than the quarterfinals! Does this become fact or fiction? Let's have a look!
Sh0ckTr34tm3nt, as always, gave a warm welcome to familiar foe -ZoRRo...who has never managed to beat him in a "best-of" series. Did anyone except Sh0ckTr34tm3nt not to be in the Finals? I don't think so! Sh0ck takes the series 3:1, and secures the first spot in the finals!
On the other side we witnessed Maze swiftly defeating a very good player in Bert. Despite taking a short break, Maze proved he still had what it took to bring the heat, and Maze will once again meet Sh0ckTr34tm3nt in the finals!
Finals!
As long as I've been hosting Tiberium Wars events, I've never seen Sh0ckTr34tm3nt not reaching this place... unlike earlier, he has got harder opponent than in the previous months. Maze even being out of practice, was still able to make Sh0ckTr34tm3nt work for the win and managed to take a game off of him in this best of seven series. Sh0ckTr34tm3nt though, after hard fought five games, finally took home the victory in a 4:1 series!
Unfortunately, 3rd place-off wasn't played because Bert left too early, so free wins were given to -Zorro.
