Venoms are the cheapest aircraft used by the Brotherhood of Nod. They are very fast and can move quickly across the map. They are destructive too, because they can make many quick attacks against units (against infantry or vehicle too). Once upgraded, they are very effective against any Infantry making them invaluable to any Nod arsenal.
- Venom cost $900
- Venoms are constructed from the Air Tower. They are a Tier 2 Nod unit because an Operation Center is required in order to build an Air Tower.
- There are 2 upgrades : the Laser Capacitor and the Signature Generator
Venoms in action
Venoms versus land units. If you can pick the right battles against Rocket Infantry, you will quickly turn these inexpensive units into game changers. Venoms can intercept commandos, destroy tier 1 tanks (like the Predator, Scorpion and Seeker) and if you have upgraded Venoms, they are useful against tier 3 units (Mammoth Tanks, Juggernauts and Zonetroopers ). Venoms are very effective against all heavy infantry, and after you wipe up the infantry quickly, you can then finish off the rest of your opponents forces (in game, Venoms can in fact destroy all units that are dangerous against your tanks).
Venoms versus other air units. Venoms are not the quickest aircraft in Tiberium Wars but they provide great anti air as well. When facing off against a GDI player, Venoms are a hard counter to Orcas, and poorly microed Firehawks. Against a Nod player, Venoms are of equal strength against other Venoms (the only chance to win is to fire first) and are solid counters to Vertigos. On the flip side, Vertigos are poor counters to Venoms even though Vertigos do have AA capability. And against Scrin players, Venoms easily destroy Devastator Warships but they have problems countering the Planetary Assault Carrier and Stormriders. The shields of these vehicles are powerless against the upgraded Laser Capacitor Venoms.
To command effectively, Venoms must be grouped (ctrl+0 to 9), just as you would group Vertigos and Firehawks. This technique is useful because there are times where you do not need to select all Venoms for a particular task.
Using Venoms to scout. They can explore the map quickly and if you are at tier 4 and have sufficient funds, you can launch a Catalyst Missile or Tiberium Vapor Bomb based on that exploration. With Venoms, you may quickly take control of important strategic point. Venoms also reveal stealthed units such as Snipers, Shadow Teams and Stealth Tanks. Beam Cannons, in concert with Venoms, have the ability to reflect the beam across the map at a particular target based on the dispersion of your Venoms. This is not very effective in TW, it work well only in KW.
You can destroy the enemy refinery with Catalyst Missile
There are two upgrades for Venoms:
The Laser Capacitor: 3000$
Laser Capacitor is the most important Nod upgrade you can have in TW. Scorpion Tanks and Raider Buggies share this upgrade. It can change the tide of battle. It improves the efficiency against infantry and vehicles (infantry units do not stand a chance against upgraded Venoms). This upgrades all armament into a laser weapon which increases the efficiency and the damage caused by the venom.
The Signature Generator: 100$
The Signature Generator is not an important upgrade because it is generally useless even though it only costs 100 credits. It makes the venom look like multiple units on the enemies mini-map.
