Tip of the Week #9 - Vertigo Bomber

Nod's Vertigo bomber is the best harrasment unit in the game and also very good at taking out tanks and infantry.

Vertigos vs buildings


The Vertigo bomber is Nods mid-late game harassment unit. It does very good damage to structures and base defenses and can be used to cut power to a base or take out key tech structures. Vertigo's are stealthed so only base defenses and certain units can protect them. Whats more, they're re-stealth time was not nerfed in 1.05. They can drop their bombs anywhere on the map with little or no warning and just as easily fly off. It takes three GDI or Nod AA turrets and two Scrin AA turrets to kill a nearby vertigo before it re-stealths (assuming it doesn't hang around).

Now for the numbers


Vertigos kill all barracks' in one shot. This comes in useful when countering any kind of rocket spam as rocket soldiers don't have stealth detection. Vertigo's also kill power plats, with two bombs. Choose your targets however, go for the plants with power turbines/fusion core/tib core.

Most tech centers take 5 bombs to disable but it is well worth you cause beng able to kill your opponents tch center at a moments notice.

Vertigos vs Units


Vertigos are your main counter to everything tanks however, they are not "tank killers" rather they bring their targets down to a ridiculously low health. One Vertigo Will bring a Predator Tank to a health that Scorpiens can one shot them.. This is also the case with Mammothes, Tripods and Avatars. It is very difficult for Vertigos to hit infantry so don't even try, your attacks are better suited for tanks.
A word of caution: Stay away from massed seekers and stealth tanks in particular as well as all aircraft. Vertigos have an Air to Air attack but it does next to nothing in damage.

Vertigo Micro


When going up against ANY tank, NEVER NEVER NEVER try to KILL them. Vertigos bring all tanks down to extremly low health and can be left to be taken out by rocket soldiers or other tanks. It is better (In the case of Vertigos) two damage two Predators than to kill one.
When attacking Tier 1 and 2 Tanks that are moving, DO NOT simply attack. If you do, the bomb will not hit the tank. Always aim in front of the target tank.

The Vertigos bombs also have a decent blast radius, try to force attack in the middle of two tanks that are close together as you will damage more than 1. Vertigos are Nods primary counter to high tech units. Three Vertigos take Mammoths, Avatars and shielded Tripods down to 1000 health. Again, do not waste a fourth bomber trying to take out the target tank, a single Avatar or Rocket Soldier will be able to finish the job.
