there is a great deal of negative content about Red Alert 3 game play.
i had a great opportunity to cast 4 well played games in the preliminary round.
the quarter final round and finals were great.
the firgli, sofronel games were EPIC.

the semi finals were a bash and a DQ sad.gif

i saw a variety of play styles, units, and factions...

The ConquerCup was fascinating today...

the #1 ranked Soviet player on the ladder had a good game against firgli
sofronel eliminated matiz in a good allies v. random faction game.

soviets and random were used in about 15% of the games.
empire and allies were used 30% each.

i dont know about the games where no replays were saved.

Ra3 is fun to watch at times, its just annoying to play. Eco is so slow that you NEED to expand. A lot of buttons are pressed for you.

some RA3 players believe there is nothing wrong with playing a game off of 1 refinery.
its this wide variety of viable approaches that makes the game cool.

you say we "NEED" to expand due to the slow economy.. and people like you and firgli can play quite successfully with that method...

other players can pull of 1 refinery rushes and succeed at a very high level with 1 refinery...
and even if their initial rush is turned away they still end up playing a substantial part of the game living off of 1 refinery and 1 or 2 oil derricks...

what is also cool is you get players who are really good at making those "1 refinery economy" decisions and other players who are "like a fish out of water" in that kind of game....

I think that masKeD means you can't even support a tier 2 War Factory, which I agree, is a bit weird. If you want to make something like tanks, you NEED to expand, because if the other guy does so right when you start making units, he's going to have less for a small period of time, but he can drop down a turret as Allies/Soviets and as Empire he uses "amazing" micro, move units into your units and suicide. Then he has the economical advantage, which means he's going to have WAAAAY more tanks or whatever, and you'll get raped.

Yea czone gets me. Jim 1 ref cheeses don't really work, they put the ball on your court, but they are not at top level. The only player i've seen pull it off is malle. A very creative player, but he's strength is he's so unpredictable in his predicality.

I played 10 ffg with him once. He beat me 9 times, the 1 where he repeated a build order he lost(it was a lol game though). And people have learn the build orders to tackel down his style of cheese.

This game has a lot of potentail, if expanding was a choice. Lets say if you could surport 1 build que with 2 refinaries. And not have the starting cash of other faster cnc games.

Then this game would become 10X more interesting.
1.Less infrantry spam
2. Different tactics. Allies could even open with warfactory some of the time.
3. Expansion is a choice.

Shame, because in 1.12 where this game has become less "hard" counterish with the unit choice it can be really micro intensive. If some issues are fixed it could be epic.

Yeah if we have the economy that you can support a t2 wf with two refs, you can CHOOSE to expand so you have more money and can maybe get two wfs going, or maybe an airfield. When expansion is a choice lke this, people will have to actually think about their timing more and with some slight balance changes this will be an AWESOME game.

I agree with Jim, Red Alert 3 is a fantastic game and fun to watch, thats why it claimed 14 months of my gaming life.

Edit: There is hardly a lack of evidence that 1-ref playstyle works at top level, I think that their viability has been proven a ton of times. You just cant keep on repeating the exact same BO, but this applies to all factions and all build orders. Mixing up is needed after a while.
