Yes you heard right folks! Battlefield 1943 was expected to be released on the PC within the next four weeks, but has been officially delayed until 2010. Here is the official statement from Gordon Van Dyke himself:
We haven't released a Frostbite [DICE's game engine] built game on PC, so going into this project we lacked a starting foundation we had on console. There are also many different and unique only challenges to the PC that has lead to us pushing the release even further to Q1 CY 2010 [early next year]. This was a hard pill to swallow, but it was absolutely needed to ensure the features and functionality that PC Players have come to expect from Battlefield on PC are not missing. Things like support for DirectX 9 and 10, higher player count (up to 32-player matches), wide peripheral support i.e. joysticks for flying, VoIP, and ranked server provider hosting. So it was and still is the absolutely right decision, for quality sake, to not release until it is ready. Source: New G4 Interview!
Even though the game has been delayed, there is good news amongst the rubble. PC users will be happy to hear that the maximum number of players allowed on one server has been increased to 32, from the 24 allowed when playing on a console. This means more action, bigger battles and in general more awesome battlefield moments.
What a surprise considering they haven't hyped the PC version at all and it should have had 10 days to go if they didn't delay. I'm definitely shocked.
A delay isn't the end of a section on GR. If anything Tiberium proved that (read 1 year of information silence, then a delay message, then an official cancellation) as we still managed to keep the section running and churning out content throughout all of that
As for BF1943, better finished game late rather than broken game ontime
