Ive been making COH maps for a little more than a year. I enjoy making them, and if there made right, people enjoy playing them. If you've played COH for a long time you get bored of playing the same maps over and over, like Rails and Metal. Its a great map, but it gets old.
Do people want to see new maps? If so what kind of a setting (swamps, plains, rivers, lakes, ponds, woods etc.)? Do you want to see more 1v1? 2v2? 3v3? 4v4? Should there be another map contest to get more maps? If you have ever had an idea for a map, draw it up and post it! I feel there should be an open discussion on this topic in the Tales of Valor Discussion because it is the most public, thanks for your opinions everyone!
IMO, Ango and Langres are the only two 1v1's that dont make me want to eat a baby. Which is sad because that means there is only 1 map Relic made that I like.
I like a map that tells a story- think of wrecked train. It's a great scenario that creates a terrific place for a battle that by its very nature lends the players some great cover
I also like a rather open map like langres, its important to create intelligent resource layouts that make for some good opportunities to both cut off and allow for some unique wraparound type of connections
I like maps like flooded plains, ruins of rouen, wrecked train, and beaux lowlands because they leave me feeling as though I have just been raped, and thats even if I win. Congestion, swampy, and, really, to be honest, anything that could be known as a halftracks/assault guns worst nightmare.
Bridges suck Swamps suck Ruined, overly compacted cities suck Excessive red cover sucks Excessive green cover sucks Areas that are complete shitholes that are open but impossible to navigate(especially with trains) suck Points completely surrounded by 3+ units of red cover suck Overly important choke points suck Overly dependable buildings (sturz/stmere) suck 2v2 maps that should be 1v1 (size-wise) and vice verse suck
i understand why all those things could suck. i think commanders in the real world in ww2 felt the same, but they demand we adapt to them, but to make the game fun and the map well, you do have to avoid alot of those things, definitly
You can easily do a good urban map without making it like du crap. Simply have most of the buildings destroyed. This would've actually been the case with most battles in ww2 anyway. Make sure to lay out many side roads and around two large areas (like a town square or something) so that flanking is possible, long range weapons are viable, and tanks can manuver.
Wat, WT has some of the worst cover of any map EVER

I really don't care what ww2 comanders had to adapt to, I want to play a fun game on a map that doesnt screw one unit or faction or the other...
ww2 commanders didn't have a camera 50 meters in the air and the ability to make their troops follow specific orders in real time.
Another reason why SMD was bad was because cover discrepancy was very high between areas. You'd have vast stretches of red cover and then a green cover island in the middle making it much easier to defend then attack. But, it needs to have a balance of open area and congested spaces with several side roads.
And I would totally look forward to more new maps as long as if they were good they could be added to replace the maps in rotation now.
plains daytime 1v1

eural, i appreciate you pointin out the obvious but id like to know what you'd like in a map, specifically if you can
A completely uninhabited area, with acres of lush forest(yellow), a small stream through the map for my mans to play in(not red), various hedges large rocks and los cover for my tanks survivability(los blocking), and an a good 5th of the map still suffering from a recent fire(relatively full of doodads-wrecked vehicles that clearly started the fire). While cities maps are definitely possible(an unbroken sturz), its clear that the green, open, and fluid diversity of maps like duclair, langres, and ango are far more widely accepted, but at the same time are far from similar with each bringing its own interesting work of art from nearly the exact same palette.
i much agree, you should check out Alsace-moselle in my sig, its not the final version, even though it says it is, im working on a revamped version of it you should take a look http://www.gamereplays.org/community/index...howtopic=552925 maybe come into reborn vent sometime and play.
1:1 2:2 no point in making 3v3 / 4v4 when 90% of community wont play them
Make it plains, please. No hills (like north of Duclair, its hard to keep an eye on all units, since you cant see them), no water (flooded plains, no more please), not a lot of houses. If you manage to make it SIMILAR to two best 1v1 maps, you have my respect.

Variety though! WE dont need all them to be plains. Good maps can be made using other types of terrian. Their needs to be some sort of forest map. Thats nice and balanced.
