My friend suggested me to try Heroes of Newerh. I'm an old Dota / LOL player, so I'm not the worst player around. I've played like 40 games of HON so far. I like the game, escecially new heroes and strategies. Sometimes there are very challenging, longlasting and fun games. But most of the time I've to deal with total jerks. I end up getting matched with unmannered kids, bad trolls and intentional gameruiners. I'm serious. Here are some of my experiences: Ally picks Legionnaire and he keeps running to mid nonstop, getting himself killed 17 times in 15 minutes. Allied Hammerstorm spams racistic stuff all the game and wastes his money to build a giant swastike symbol from minor totems. Three allied heroes go to mid lane and try to votekick each other. Allied Devourer keeps hooking me all the time on purpose and askes me everytime "YOU MAD BRAH YOU MAD?" Allied Nymphory is intentionally trying to teleport allied heroes near opponent base tower to kill his allies on purpose. ... and the leavers. Almost every time there are one or more leavers or ppl who waste their time by standing in base, doing nothing. I don't get it - why this game is full of sad people. Some allied players are even telling me "hf enjoy your lose". Isn't the goal to win the games instead of losing on purpose? It seems that some players just want to get some attention or think they are funny. To be honest - nobody else is laughing expect the bad troll. I'm telling you, I'ts very hard to climb to 1700 or reach to verified level. So I don't get why this game is so popular - over 100000 players online every day. I have had much nicer mates in LOL. Why HON players are so sad?
You've had all that in 40 games? That's impressive. Is this matchmaking or custom games? I can't speak for LoL but I don't think you'll find the community at DotA much better.
It's nice that it's hard to reach 1700, and in fact I wish it were even harder as it limits the bad players found in games and there are definitely less leavers there too. However the griefers and ragers are still plentiful.
E- oh you're unverified. The problems of leavers and smurfs at least are improved when you become verified and play in verified-only matches. It's worth sticking it out; if you're already at 40 games you should be pretty close to level 5.
Why do I lose same amount of rating when there are leavers. Let's say, there are 3 players terminated before 15 minutes. When we concede at 15min, I will still lose 21 rating? Is this game broken?
you will lose less points if 1 or more players leaves in your team well, if 1700 is your target.... count on at least 1 year till you reach that, mayb longer judging on the way you are talking, i bet you are now at <1500 , that is usually the troll bracket since everybody starts at 1500 (its the same in the lower brackets in LoL and Dota, i bet you were in somewhat higher brackets in LoL, so you experience a lot less trolling and grieving since people have much more to lose) There is nearly no grieving and trolling in the 1600+ verified bracket in HoN, so hang on if your game knowledge and experience is good, u will reach 1600 soloQ easily, otherwise you still need to learn A LOT, so you need to play more
this is game is better then dota and lol combined, so its definitely worth it

I don't just get, why certain players would waste their time by ruining / trolling games on purpose? I haven't seen something like this in any other game, expect some hackers in Quake. Is HON community really that bad corrupted? I wish there would be an option to ban every gameruiner / attention wh*re from HON.
this is game is better then dota and lol combined, so its definitely worth it
Rather questionable, I have play a tonne of all 3. LoL comes out far superior, continuous addition of quality content, user friendly, big events to watch. DOTA and HoN are extremely difficult to pick up and learn, the communities of both are extremely hostile, and neither has any decent/regular content that is of a quality that makes you amazed by what has been created.
This isn't an opinion based on the game I currently play or "I only play LoL therefore all other games are shit." I have played about 500 games of DOTA2, 800ish of HoN and about 1.6k of LoL. At the time of choosing to play LoL over the other two I had about 350 LoL games.
You are completely missing the point of what I am saying, the HoN community here died fast despite the amount of work certain people put in. FourCourtJester stopped playing HoN and making videos for HoN and started making stuff for LoL where is was quickly picked up by large organisations as a caster. People from other games as well as HoN have migrated to LoL as it provides more user friendly gameplay and many more opportunities for both players and producers of various other content for the game. More people play LoL meaning there is a bigger audience for content people produce for them making it more likely that they can become successful.
As you seem to just play and not produce anything besides playing your game, that's perfectly fine, but nobody in the right mind who is producing content for an audience in the interest of becoming successful and any amount popular would stick around in a game like HoN, considering the state of both the game and the community. Instead they move on to where there is the biggest and most diverse audience. League of Legends.
Ye I badly miss FCJ Really a loss for the HoN Section, which is truely dead indeed. Chu left HoN too, so your point is more than valid. But still gameplaywise HoN>>>All MobAs, thats my point. Im just a gamer regarding my games and I want a solid gameplay. Idc about content.
I understand you now, though in the position I am in trying to build a bit of a name for myself making videos and doing some commentary, I have to go where the opportunities lie
HoN IS the better game. I attempted to play LoL 3 times with the goal to reach level 30 because my irl friends play it and they refuse to even try HoN (I am the one giving in). It ended up getting bored by the shit gameplay of LoL and the cancer graphics that come with it. Some may like that stuff, just like some like Ragnarokk graphicwise (still poor quality, even if you like it).
The only and biggest problem I see with HoN are the stats. People become assholes, trolls, douchebags, ragequitters, intentional killstealers and other negative things just because they want a high kdr, smackdowns and killsprees. Or they judge someone by their stats and flame him if he has 0.85kdr and picks a carry. If they still pick a carry and fail, they turn the tide and flame their team for not supporting them enough and start feeding intentionally and the circle of doom continues.
So all in all it comes down to the massive and detailed amount of stats you have in HoN. I am the last person to hopes for them to remove stats because I truely love to see what I played for and become better statwise and ratingwise but in order for this game to become more noob friendly they'd have to remove almost all stats like LoL or DOTA2.
However, HoN is graphicwise and gameplay wise the best Action-RTS game out there. Not only in my opinion. DOTA2 however takes the crown for balance.
Yeah that would make a good reason... The HoN community is just trash compared to other games, not referring strictly to this kind of games. Someone was saying that it's all about the kdr the smackdowns and/or killingsprees. I agree completely. You see all sorts of players on casual for example that flame and want to report your ass for picking another carry besides him (mid ofc). I mean... people need to learn to play actually. There's this thing called team pick... and i'm sure that if more people would just follow a certain pattern more or less (and i'm not saying to stick to the standards, fuckno!!!) the problem of flaming because of the picks would disappear. Suport needs to support, the tanks needs to fuckin tank and the carry has to carry the fuckin game!!! But ofc you get reported for flaming just like i did now...
Wow the interesting things that happened to you in your first 40 games was crazy. I love to play HoN, out of the 3 LoL, HoN and DotA2 HoN is the most challenging. In dota give me a support hero and I will play 2 roles, support and carry. Witch Doctor ( equal to Voodoo jester in HoN) I am unstopable. Just ask anyone who has played with me. HoN however is not so easy to play. And LoL, well its just for kids. If people leave HoN and go to LoL it is a very simple reason, they cant handle the pressure, they dont have the strategy, and they are just noobs in a game of professionals.
The situations you spoke of in your first 40 games, well bro you will have that. I have seen some very weird things. I dont like it when people who dont care about their stats and MMR play ranked games and ruin mine. That really gets on my nerves. Don't play a ranked game then, your stupidity effects my MMR. all 3 games are a team effort and 1 weak link in the chain can kill your team. because it is very easy for the enemy to find, see and target that weak link. At any time we can see who has been killed the most, who is the strongest, everything we need to know to take advantage of any situation.
They have a report system in place for your HoN problems, I would definitely utilize that system for some of the things you have mentioned, they have an in game system as well as a forum you can post to. If posting to the Forum use the match ID.
They say getting to the 1700 MMR will solve the problems but its very hard. I have a lot of team player problems myself, just real noob mistakes, no boots, kids picking heros playing in ranked games like they are practicing their newly bought heros. Its like a bunch of 5 year olds got to play on daddys account and they do not know the difference between practice, ranked games and unranked games. it really gets on my nerves. If you are gonna play a new hero dont so it where your lack of knowledge effects others. practice against bots, or hosted practice, or even in unranked games where nothing is on the line.
But they will not and this problem will forever be a problem on HoN. because they think they can play 1 hero well they can play any hero well, and they dont care about their own MMR much less care about anyones elses. but that is the game we play and love, we have to deal with the noobish mistakes.
@efloresence "I mean... people need to learn to play actually. " yes you are correct people do need to learn how to play the game, however of the 3 HoN, LoL and DotA2 Hon has the absolute best tools and utilities to help new people learn how to play the game. You ahve the Learnatorium, where you can learn about every hero, within this are the hero guides that not only talk about how to play your hero, but teach you what items to get for each hero, what skills to pick per level. You also have the change logs that tell you about what changes were made to each hero during the game updates. Then after doing this you can practice against bots, or even use the hosted practice match where you can even give yourself as much gold as you want, place any hero you want anywhere on the map, and many other things to help you learn your hero and the game mechanics. In addition to all this you can also play in unranked normal mode and unranked casual mode. What a lot of new players mistake is the meaning of Casual play. Casual play DOES NOTY mean practice. casual mode is a game mode that gives you more gold on kills and assists and you lose no gold upon death. "I mean... people need to learn to play actually. " Sure no problem then do it in practice ways I have mentioned, you do not learn how to play the game in Ranked modes of casual or normal Ranked games. These games are the ones where yes, Wins, Kills, Assists, Wards, Smackdowns, Bloodbath, Immortal do mean something to us. because you earn Silver for all those categories. That is why there is a ranked system, to give players like me rewards for their work. this silver is used to purchase New Heros, Alternate hero Avatars, Game vanity items, account vanity items, so yes it is very important. So you delve into a ranked game and a player like me gives you advice such as, get back, be careful, watch out, dont go there, dont do that, and you ignore me and get yourself killed or get me killed because of it, then you best expect to get yelled at, called names, because your mistake just cost me something, whether it be a Serial Killer, Ultimate Warrior, Legendary, Onslaught, Savage Sick, Dominating, Champion, Bloodbath, Immortal, Double Tap, Hat Trick, Quad Kill, or Annihilation. So please practice, please learn the game, but for goodness sake use the tools and utilities provided for you to do this before you play a ranked game and ruin my MMR and K,A:D.
Players like me dont just click my mouse and hit a few keys on the keyboard, and depend solely on my teammates to win. I am watching my map every single second of gameplay, I know where the enemy is as best i can I know how many seconds it takes to get from one area of the map to another, I know how long it takes the courier to get to my position anywhere I may be on the map. I even know what items my enemy is using so i better evaluate his speed while traveling on the map, how many hitpoints I need to have before I turn and run away and believe it or not I know how many hitpoints you have and when u need to turn and run away. I know my skills, my enemies skills and your skills, their power, and what effect they will have on the enemy. I know when an enemy has used a double damage rune making his attack much more powerful, I know where to correctly place the wards so they get maximum coverage of sight for me and my teammates. These are things we do and know, so when players who do not know what they are doing play in a ranked game with me, I do get upset, look at how much time and effort I have put into this game and its mechanics to have that work ruined because a player is practicing or "learning how to play" in a ranked game just really gets under my skin and others like me.
