Blizzard have updated their Protoss units list with new information about the Phoenix. The Phoenix is designed to be an air superiority fighter, effectively filling the role of the Protoss equivalent to the Zerg Mutalisk or Terran Wraith. It has basic armaments and is the Protoss basic all around fighter, with the added capability of being able to attack ground units.
However, what makes the Phoenix interesting is its "overload" ability. When activated, the overload ability will deal area effect damage to multiple units nearby to the Phoenix. This ability appears to last for several seconds, but when the overcharge has ended, the Phoenix is left powerless and vulnerable to attack until it can recover. Knowing this, it would not be wise to activate this ability on all of your Phoenix aircraft at once. Rather, it would be better to activate it one at a time, or at least to have support avaiable to defend the vulnerable Phoenix aircraft.
A demonstration of this effect may be seen in one of the debut gameplay videos released at Blizzard's World Wide Invitational this past May.
