I have a question about the Tau stronghold ability: 'Ar'Ka Cannon'. What does it actually do? The description says it 'softens up the enemy before the assault.' However, I have seen little evidence of it doing anything effective.
If any one can tell me, it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I cannot remember the actual effect, but the cannon shoots the target area before you attack them (I do not know, if that actually damaged the enemy buildings or anything ...).

Technically, it destroys a single garrison unit every time you attack some land, but actually it doesn't do anything due a bug.
The only good abilities on the game are sisters, IG, DE and maybe SM ones. The others are just crap.
No matters who I play in the campaing, I always go first for K1, then K4, and after that... It doesn't matter.
for me, the cannon had a one-hit KO effect, i aimed on a squad and fired n they jus died instantly. dont know bout u guys but thats wat happended when i used it. it is very easy to counter though, on the map when it is ready to fire the enemy pings where it is going to fire. all u have to do is move the aimed squad out of the way. (pretty shit if u ask me )

Yeah, that is what it does in the stronghold map, but he was asking for the ability on the crusade map, not the cannon shot on the game.
Well back in patch 1.0, I used to play tau in campaign, and I too wondered if it did anything. So I attacked a strength 10 province, then quit the game (giving up basically) then checked the campaign screen and it was on 9. I tested this twice more and it did the same every time. One time it reduced the garrison from two enemy bases to one (i think 6 - 5).
I dont know if this effect still works, but I know it used to.

I really don't care, in the first stages of the game enemy bases usually have no defences, and at final stages, well, you have enought guards and deepstrike units to overcome any kind of defence.
So for me, the cannon means no difference. imho best abilites are IG, Sis and DE.
For those a little bit confused, the abilities are these:
Space Marines: Deep Strike Squads Chaos: Ignore Supply Lines Imperial Guard: Decreased Production Costs Sisters of Battle: Forward Bases Necrons: Troop Recovery Eldar: Fleet March Tau Empire: Ar'Ka Cannon Orks: Fast Population Growth Dark Eldar: Ancient Gate Raiding + Ancient Gate
Hope that clarifies it all a bit.
