The last few days i have been agonizing over several different ways to set up my sniper classes. I like to try and be a bit stealthy, but im not sure which way is best.
I see a lot of people keeping stopping power, and adding a silencer to their rifles. I can see the appeal to this as it lets you stay in one position and constantly fire, without giving away your position too badly. However my problem with this is, UAV's and other "global" abilities are so comon it makes me cringe not having cold blooded. The obvious advantage to having stopping power means that upper body shots/ HS's instant kill ( always a nice thing).
The other alternative ive been considering is keeping cold blooded and ditching the silencer, this means you don't want to camp too long, but it means your more or less immune to many of the global abilities. However i haven't had a chance to lab this properly, does it still instant kill to upperbody/head?
The final option is all stealthy, cold blooded and silencer, this only works with auto's because it always takes 2 shots to kill, but unless your firing at extreme ranges that doesn't seem too much of a problem for me. The biggest thing with this class is that except to visual detection you are totaly invisible, damn handy.
The last thing to consider is what back up weapon, ive been looking for somthing that lets you fight at the long edge of short range, so i have been trying to avoid the shotguns, the pistols are crap from what ive tried, deagle has way too much recoil to be useful imo. This bascily leaves us at the machine pistols, if your going for stealthy, you probably want your secondary weapon to be silenced, so that makes the g18 a dubious choice imo because its muzzle flash is so great you cant see your target, if you use the ironsights. So I have been considering using the first Machine pistol, but i forgot its name.

I almost always take the M93 Raffica on all my sniper classes. It's usually 1 burst 1 kill close range but still fires more than fast enough to down enemies at long range.
Haven't actually unlocked the Deagle or anything but from what the spec ops and single player has show me the rate of fire has been capped brutally, making it useless.

With the Silencer, it doesn't seem you can get your rifle's damage back to the way it was, even w/ FMJ and Stopping Power.
Some people swear by the Silencer, but I've been seen and killed more times using the Silencer than without it. Right now I'm using the Intervention w/ the Thermal Scope and Cold Blooded, and it's working wonders. Especially on Wasteland with all that tall grass to hide in. Easy counter sniping, and most enemies have ignored me unless they have the Heartbeat Sensor.
As for the secondary weapon, the PP-2000 is amazing. It kills SO fast and it very accurate even when firing from the hip. Shotguns are not bad to have, despite having a short range. The AA-12 or the Striker are good backups, very fast rate of fire from both of them. Dual Rangers are absolutely incredible if you want to ruin the enemy's day. After picking off two snipers in Estate, I ran into the top cabin and waited in the bathroom on the upper floor. Six dead enemies, three flashbangs, two stun grenades and a Thumper round later (all in the course of about a minute and thirty seconds) I was killed.
It was the most fun I have had with any weapon in this game so far.
...Honestly it's all about the ACOG'ed Intervention and Stopping Power. Adjust the rest of the class to your liking. That's my favorite class to run and can be effective on just about every map.
If you want silenced, use the M21 EBR. It has almost no recoil so it doesn't matter if it doesn't kill in one shot. Cold blooded, Ninja and a silenced M9 as well as Scavenger (Pro) for picking up more Claymores!

I say go with a stealth class and see if that play style suits you, if not then use an Intervention with Stopping Power. With a stealth class, you would want a silenced semi-automatic sniper rifle with cold blooded. This will take two shots to kill people but keep you invisible, however the biggest difference here is that you can no longer 'spot' someone last second and take them down instantly before they vanish from your view. If you're a sniper who tends to get many kills like that, then you want a one-hit kill sniper class to suit your preference.
However if you don't mind being patient and waiting a little for your opponent to be more vulnerable so that you can afford to take two shots on him, then go with a silenced semi-auto sniper rifle with the least recoil (that EBR or whatever, the last one) and slap on Sleight of Hand, Cold Blooded, Ninja and a Raffica or the first (ugly) machine pistol for your secondary weapon.
Simple as that. Sniper rifles with silencers suck. You lose too much fire power at medium and long range.
And running around with cold blooded without a silencer is quite ineffective as well because as soon as you start shooting everyone can see your position on the radar.
So my advice: Sleight of hand pro and stopping power are must-haves and steady aim can be replaced by ninja pro.
And if you don't want to play without silencers and/or like handicaps (xD), the M21 EBR definately is the best sniper for you (but again, it's completely awesome with acog and stopping power).
Well, how exactly are you going to be sniping? Will you just camp or will you shoot and relocate. If you camp then yeah, a semi-auto silenced and cold-blooded so you can fire multiple shots without being spotted.
However, if you know you will be moving around and relocating then you don't really need cold blooded because you will constantly be moving.
My recommendation if you will be moving around:
Intervention w/heartbeat sensor and thermal scope. Thermal scope for practical reasons and heartbeat sensor so you know when somebody gets to close.
PP2000 (the machine pistol no one can remember) w/ silencer or Red Dot sight, or both if you have bling pro.
Tactical Insertion: Useful for setting up yourself in case you die.
Smoke Grenade: Good for escaping.
Bling: obvious enough.
Stopping Power: One hit wonders
Steady aim Pro: Good for long shots. or Ninja Pro: Good if someone is trying to find you with heartbeat sensor and pro silences your footsteps.
If you want to Silence your Rifle, the M14 is your best bet. RoF is high enough and recoil is low enough for you to easily fire two shots to down your target.
m1014 is a brilliant secondary weapon for a sniper build, perfect for close quarters.
I use the WA200 so I wont need stopping power and thus I can have a pretty dam good stealth build, ninja pro/cold blooded with bling (thermal scope+fmj rounds).
Seriously you wont regret picking an auto shotty as your secondary.
Two good sniper-classes depending on the situation:
Power-Sniper: Better off on search and destroy and larger maps lika Detrail.
Primarey: Intervention Secondary: Deagel akimbo, or shotgun model 1887 akimbo
Eq: claymore SG: smoke
Perk 1: I use Slight of hands to aim down the scope faster but scavenger is also a good choice. Then u will start with alot of ammo and be able to refill ur claymores (y). Perk 2: Stopping power (1 shot 1 kill) Perk 3: steady aim (to be able to hold ur breath longer)
Stealth Sniper: Better on team deathmatch and maps like wasteland where u will be constantly sneaking around for a silent kill.
Primarey: WA2000 or M21 with silencer Secondary: m9 with silencer
Eq: claymore SG: smoke
Perk 1: Scavenger because the two shot one kill factor will drain alot of bullets Perk 2: Cold-blooded Perk 3: steady aim or ninja
Thankfully to the addition of a whole array of new secondary weapons to choose from, its not as much of a challenge to setting up a "good sniper" class. There are good automatic pistols [suppressed or not] to choose from which might as well be your primary. I find using non-suppressed snipers to be more effective. It just takes too many shots to get a kill with a bolt.
If you're playing PC learn to use the pistols, they are without a shadow of a doubt the best secondary you can have if you are good with them. When someone enters your local area you have your one snap shot to kill them, scoped or unscoped whatever, you need to then switch. Pistols are the fastest to switch to, by a mile, too often I got killed while pulling out the shotguns or machine pistols.
Back to a standard pistol and absolutely fine. Then again I had to learn to use a pistol because I played promod cod4, so perhaps i'm more comfortable with them than most.
The pistols are certainly put on the back shelf with all the Machine Pistols and Shotguns taking center stage. But I gotta say, the Magnum is pretty amazing.
Must agree with pistols. UPS .45 + FMJ is arguably better than a magnum in terms of accuracy and has the same amount of damage at short range. APs and Shotguns take forever to swap out when you're in a pinch which is why I hardly ever use them.
My sniper classes are:
Normal SnD: Barrett (Thermal + FMJ) UPS 45 (FMJ + Tac Knife) Claymore Flashbang Bling Pro Stopping Power Pro Steady Aim Pro
HC Sniper: WA2000 (Heartbeat) UPS 45 (FMJ) Claymore Flashbang Scavenger Pro Lightweight (almost Pro) Scrambler Pro
HC Assassin: Intervention (Silencer) UPS 45 (Silencer) Tactical Insertion Stun Scavenger Pro Cold Blooded Pro Ninja Pro
Rambo Sniper: Barrett (ACOG + FMJ) G18 (Akimbo + FMJ, want Extended Mags) Semtex Stun Bling Pro Stopping Power Pro Ninja Pro
Standard Sniper (against most games where teams are equal, or mine is superior) Barret .50 with Thermal or FMJ Akimbo Magnum Sleight of Hand Pro Stopping Power Pro Steady Aim Pro
Stealth Sniper (against superior teams) Barret .50 with HBS USP with Silencer Marathon Pro Cold-Blooded Pro Ninja Pro
Both with smoke grenades and claymores, of course.
