Hi All ,
I am a fairly new player of about 4 weeks . Only really played SoulStorm and very little Dawn of War 1 or winter assalt , and a bit more Dark Crusade .

Mainly i have been playing skirmish , mostly against Space marines , and I am ALWAYS Orks .
I have no trouble at all on the easy and hard AI settings . Trouble is I get smashed in a few minutes when playing the HARDER AI setting . I have tried all sorts of tactics but all result in the same thing , utter destruction in a few minutes .

can somebody please advise me on what I should be trying to do on the harder AI setting or is there a replay somewhere i should watch ??[/center]

I have only played a handful of games online as I am waiting till I can play successfully but as much as I love this game it is getting to the stage of saying "whats the point" and letting it live on a shelf

zomgrofllolwtf blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif

1) play tutorial a few times, with your prefered race, get used to controls, practice, units etc.

2) learn build orders n stuff from this site

3) Download and watch some replays of your preferred race

4) Join 3v3 n00b games online once you have done all of the above

(your preferred race should be the one that you find the easiest to play, 3v3 noob games are better than 1v1 for learning purposes)

(getting beaten by Harder AI in the first few mins (lol) means that you are not producing enough units in Tier 1 so you get overrun (remember that orks rely on quantity) you cant go wrong with shoota boys, lots of shoota boys vs Space Marines, and remember your big mek, he acts as a sponge but wont last when faced by a force commander, ork upgraded listening posts are great and give you something to fall back on (you are building listening posts... right?) remember to capture and/or contest strategic points and relics around the map (orks do gr8 with moar eco) o yea and dont build more than 1 gen in the first few minutes of a game vs comp because you need the req for units and reinforcing units (its unbelivable how many peeps starting out build about 3 gens and 1 lp in the first few minutes of the game blink.gif , others will now provide their thoughts and opinions...)

Don't wait until you're "good" to start playing online; humans and the AI use completely different tactics and patterns, so no matter how awesome you are against the Insane AI, you'll probably get slaughtered when you move online. Just go there now, play a few games, and if you die, so be it. The best advice I could give you would be to make a random multiplayer account you don't care about, play ten games on it using mixed tactics, and save every replay. After the game, go to Skirmish, Load Game, and then the Recorded Games button to watch your replay. Watch what your opponent does. If he completely stomped all over you, there's probably a good reason; see if you can spot why. You'll quickly see what works and what doesn't. Pay special attention to things like build orders (the exact sequence of units and buildings he drops at the start of the game), capping orders (which points he goes for first and which he ignores for later), and harassment (early game attacks in the first couple of minutes that players use to kill builders and capping squads or deny the enemy a captured point). Also resist the urge to build turrets completely. A couple of turrets can hold off an AI indefinitely if you do it right, but most players can counter them or ignore them easily. Turrets do have a use in multiplayer games but it's much more specific than against the AI where "just drop them everywhere" is a winning tactic.

I saw your other post saying you were having problems watching replays for whatever technical reason. If you can't get around it, look for a 1v1 game in the multiplayer lobby that allows for observers (the game size will either be 1/2 +X, where X is the number of observers they allow, or sometimes it'll glitch and just say 1/7 or something despite it being a 2 player match). This allows you to watch it in real-time with no replay required.

thanks for the advice especially from Hot Potato : I have been building listening posts , usually i can get 3 up , been building waugh banners , usually can get4-5 up , then building up an army , trouble seems to be in a very short time the space marines send in what might be dreadnoughts ( usually 3-4 ) and I have nothing that can combat these .I have been getting a big mek but he is as useful as a chicken in a pit bull fight ....... I have tried placing all building together and trying to see if the static guns can help my troops ........

should i just concentrate on building troops , should i build a barracks( cant remember the ork name for it ) or the research building ? give me an idea of troops numbers i should have to hold off the onslaught..... small units or max numbers in each squad ? upgrades or just mass troops??

will try to download a replay and watch but for some reason the downloads dont appear in the "load" section , and yes I have been putting them in the playback folder . I even re-installed the game but still no luck .

If the bot is massing Dreadnoughts and you have nothing to fight them, you're spending too much time in Tier 1. Get up to 55 Waaagh! and a Pile o' Gunz and get a couple squads of Tankbustas out. A single squad can do some serious damage to a Dread and two squads can handle several of them if you have their infiltration researched from the HQ.

You almost always want a barracks (Boyz Hut) first, because without it you can't make anything but Sluggas and an enemy Marine will probably stomp over you if that's all you have. Also don't max your squads. You're better off with 2 squads of 4 than one squad of 8.

Hmm, pretty much what Hotpotato and Ninjabutter already said. I'm pretty sure I already gave you the hint to just go online and learn by "try and fail" procedure.

Try, observe, understand and adept. wink.gif

i would go with what Ninjabutter said tbh smile.gif forgot about oberving, but it is pretty hard to find a decent 1v1 to observe post-13661-1143531603.gif

Orks are probably one of the hardest races to learn imo sad.gif
