As many of you will be discovering, StarCraft 2 is an extremely macro heavy RTS. For those of you settled into low APM games this may be a jarring step up, and no doubt your looking for every piece of help you can get. With this easy to follow guide, you can make up for not have 13 fingers on each hand, and can certainly make those worries of hard to reach hotkeys a thing of the past.
What the Koreans dont want you to know!
Changing in-game hotkeys is something that people may want to do for various reasons. They might not find the Blizzard pre-set hotkeys comfortable enough for them and wish to change them giving them that little advantage that every Starcraft 2 player is looking for. Getting an upper hand in Starcraft 2 is imperative and allows the player to take the initiative, even if it is just as simple as personal preference of hotkeys.
Changing the hotkeys can be done quite simply if the time is taken to just look around at the new file and experiment with it.
1. First go to here and download Ladik's MPQ Editor. After going to this website, on the left side towards the bottom there is a link called 'Download'. Pick from the four links which MPQ Editor meets your system requirements. Download this and unzip it; the most commonly used programs to do this are WinRAR or Winzip.
2. Now on the desktop should be a program called 'MPQEditor'. Double click this. The problem with this, is that it is German, but don't fear, it's simple to use. On the top left click the picture of the folder (open) and go to the program files for Starcraft II Beta; Mods\Liberty.SC2Mod\enUS.SC2Data. If you can't see the file, look at the bottom of the window and in the 'Files of Type' click 'Alle Dateien', this should put all files in English. Open this file and a new screen should appear in German. Nothing has to be done on this screen so just click ok.
3. Now on the right should be a folder entitled 'LocalizedData' open this and inside should be 'GameStrings.txt'. Take this file and move it to the Starcraft II Beta folder.
4. All done! If this file is opened any hotkeys can changed. It takes a minute to get used to, just find what you would like using the find function, "Ctrl+F", change the hotkey and click save. Example: "Button/Hotkey/Pylon=E" Is the normal hotkey for a Probe to build a Pylon, but if changed to "Button/Hotkey/Pylon=P" the new hotkey for a Probe to build a Pylon will be P. It can be changed to anything that people want allowing them make their keyboard unique to them and comfortable.
After saving this, just start your Starcraft 2 beta game and play. Almost everything in the game can be edited here. Experiment and have fun! This program was made by Points.warkeys and can be found here. Remember you can find all your StarCraft 2 discussion and replays right here on GameReplays.org, so when you've finished destroying your opponents with the help of your new hotkey setup, remember to post your replays right here in our replays system!
What Carbon said. Even though everything is "E" now, they've been designed to stay close to the left hand. The new hotkeys are FAR better for speed and conserving hand movement. Except the LAN bit, SC2 doesn't have that.
I suppose if you're a die-hard fan who really misses the original hotkeys it's good for you... but I wouldn't be surprised if tinkering around in the game files set off some Blizz hack prevention and they canceled your Bnet account or if suddenly sc2 didn't work with new patches.
Neat idea, but it's probably better in the long run to just learn the new hotkeys. :\
Nappa what do you mean it wont have lans? do you not realize what a lan is? thats where the competitive tournaments take place... granted you have to play SC2 online through battle.net at a lan doesnt change the fact that if lans dont allow you to change hotkeys with a file editor and several other tweaks then you have to use the standard ones...

LAN Source Definition: A local area network (LAN) supplies networking capability to a group of computers in close proximity to each other such as in an office building, a school, or a home. A LAN is useful for sharing resources like files, printers, games or other applications. A LAN in turn often connects to other LANs, and to the Internet or other WAN.
So by definition, connecting to the internet makes you on a WAN, not a LAN ... but I suppose y'all were referring to lan parties or events, a gathering of gamers for the purpose of gaming, but that wasn't clear. I think Nappa is right on all accounts.
Edit: Just did this, and now the text in the game is screwed up I actually see the code in every button.
Instead of " leave game " and " quit StarCraft II " at the end of every game I see some shit like
Key/Command/QuitStarCraftII
What did I do wrong?
Sigh.........
I can play one game, then I have to restart StarCraft II, or all text will become messed up. Oh well. It's not so bad. All I have to do is restart SC2 after each game, but it boots up really fast anyway. Thanks for the guide =)

There is also a file: Mods\Core.SC2Mod\enUS.SC2Data
This also contains a GameStrings.txt. Put the content of both GameString.txt-files inside your own GameStrings.txt, any one of them before the other. That should fix the bug with the menus.
