Lets say that you are playing GLA mirror. You are in the middle game. The field is full of action: Tanks war here, artillary war there. You have all those units in your base and in your tunnel. You also have toxin shells upgrade, scorpion rockets, Armor piercing bullets and others. After a little tank fight, There are some scraps near one of your tunnels. Which unit is in first priority for you to take the scraps?
Tank battles are all about the scuds, especially if you're demo. The range of a fully scrapped scud is insane; on TD you can shoot from just below the south player's oil into his primary harvesting area if you force fire. That kind of range puts buggies to shame, especially if you use Jarmen as a spotter. Plus the wide area of effect softens up many enemies at once, allowing a scrapped scud to affect the course of the battle to a much greater extent then a single scrapped marauder. After all, we all know to focus our attacks on scrapped-up marauders... but hitting a scrapped-up scud firing from behind the tank line is nearly impossible without an air force.
Scraps is just as good as the unit getting promoted IMO. A quad thats fully scrapped kills planes much quicker. 1 Fully Scrapped marauder can kill a lot of unscrapped ones. And the best part is that it's free. After a long battle scrapping up your tanks shouldn't cost anything .
Scraps can also get unit promoted, But I never understood exactly what happened. I believe the scraps give unit expirience like killing small targets, isn't it? But there is something wierd because it takes lot of scraps to promote unit that didnt kill itself but a unit that killed can get promoted fast, and then he can also get promoted to the next levels with few scraps
Once a scrappable unit takes two scraps, the next one is either a promotion or gives money. I think it's random which. Anyway, once a unit is fully scrapped, I try to allow other units to take further scraps. If there is a risk of losing the unit in order to get the scraps, I don't get them either.
People get Marauders in GLA mirror? I find Scorps a lot more useful tbh, seeing as how both players use RPGs a lot and RPGs > Marauders. If you have Marauders to hand though obviously you should scrap them up.
I find SCUDs too ruisky to scrap, unless the crate is right nex to a tunnel you could easily lose it to a lone Buggy or something. Techs are cool after scrapping (the first scrap is very useful vs mass infantry) and Quads get a lot stronger too. Scorps not so much (unless you get dual rockets and can micro it to stay alive), and scrapping Tox Tractors is just pointless
