Leap Frog With Mordor: Barricade Power

Hello everybody and welcome to this weeks Tip Of The Week. This week it's all about the magnificently diverse and powerful BARRICADE power for mordor. On mordors second tier of powers, this 10 power point spell is actually a very powerful tool if used correctly. This power in and of itself can dominate the mid game for you if you purchase flaming munitions from your citadel and place these sturdy structures carefully.

Whether being used as an extra defense on your flanks to guard your outlying resource structures, or as an anti air bonus, or as an offensive tool to help you push the enemy back into a corner, this power is extremely diverse and therefor worth much of your consideration when deciding what power to get with your hard earned 10 points.

Located below the Eye of Sauron and War Chant powers, this power fits nicely into your second power bought, if you start with the eye, which most of the time is a wise choice as mordor.

To illustrate the many uses of this power, I staged a series of events in a game and took screen shots to show how the power can best be used.

The scenario: You are in a mordor vs men of the west match on the map fords of isen 2. You have been fighting frantically for map control throughout the early game, and have been using orcs and easterlings to hold back his tower guards, soldiers, and knights, while you have also been holding back cavalry harrasment on your flanks with nazgul. As the game is transitioning into mid game, you are fighting for any and every resource plot you can in order to propel your economy into a sturdy late game. Therefore, you have decided to place a slaughter house right smack in the middle of the central crossing of the river, giving you a considerable boost to your economy IF you can manage to keep it alive long enough. Your opponent sees you trying to expand and prepares an army to destroy your presence there. You realize that your defending force is not strong enough to hold back the oncoming threat, and your nazgul are busy defending your flanks. What are you going to do? If he pushes through with that force you are going to not only lose your new resource structure but in all probablility a good number of your other buildings too.
IPB Image

Well, fortunately for you, you've got a barricade power, and you've purchased the flaming munitions from your citadel. To slow down his advance and give aid to your valiant defenders, summon the tower in a spot where it will draw some attention, but also where it can target a good portion of the enemy forces you are trying to hold back.
IPB Image

It worked! The barricade has eliminated a good portion of your opponents and drawn the attention of many more, and has allowed your reinforcements to arrive and stem the tide!
IPB Image

Now that you stemmed the tide and defended your economy for late game, you build up your forces and continue to keep him on his side of the map. By the time your force is prepared, your barricade power should have returned. Now it's time to go from defensive to offensive. What's a good way to do this? Send in your weaker meat shield at the enemy base and draw enemy fire.
IPB Image

Now that you have their attention summon the Barricade to aid your cause! While you still have a meat shield in place, use the barricade to target any strong enemy units or enemy buildings, as your fire arrows will down them quite fast!
IPB Image

Now your meat shield has been destroyed, but you're still in great shape. Target any melee units the enemy has with the barricade, because unupgraded archers arent going to do much at all to the barricade. Once again, use the barricade as a destraction while you get your next assault wave in place.
IPB Image

Now its time to put an end to this epic battle once and for all. Because the barricade has occupied his time, you have been able to prepare a devestating force to put him out of the action for good. Send in your meat shield first, with your killer units(in this case trolls) trailing behind. At this time use the barricade to aid your meat shield, but make sure to have it defend itsself from any threats so that it isnt destroyed.
IPB Image

Now that your barricade supporting your meat shield has effectively taken out of action any real threats to your trolls, send them in and take out the rest of that base.
IPB Image

Now, you've taken down his citadel and damaged his base immensely, but beware! He might have plenty of cash and be able to rebuild with his builders! At this time it is your priority to find those builders and put them down for good. However, those builders are awefully fast. If you happen to see one running away, and have your barricade power ready, intercept it with it and end any hope for rebuilding the men player has!
IPB Image

Those are just a few of the ways you can use this versatile power. Please forgive the corniness in the guide, but hopefully it is easy to understand and an interesting read. So there you have it, the awesome Barricade summon for mordor. Use it wisely and it wont ever let you down.

nice guide, are we allowed to post too?

if you'd like to post a tip, please feel free. However, please look at all tips of the day in general discussion and all tips posted here to make sure you arent repeating something. Also, try to make it in a clear format and back it with screenshots. The point of this topic thread is to have plenty for mordor players to look at in order to develop strategies and overcome things they are having problems with. So keep those things in mind, and feel free to post tips of your own.

A Beast's Affair

Hello everyone this is my analysis on the devastating Attack Trolls. We all know how useful ATs were since 1.04{and even before that}, and they are the same devastating, if not more, in 1.05 too. Here are the stats, according to 1.05 release notes:

-Attack Troll (1100 from 1000) buildcosts increased; more vulnerable to structural (35% from 25%), flame and magic (60% from 50%) damage types, population 75 (from 50), damage penalty vs heroes -25% (from -50%)

Some comments on this: Increased cost +100{barely noticeable effect on Mordor's economy though}, a bit more vulnerable to Fortresses and structural damage in general, as well as to flame and magic, but gained a +25 % against heroes.

Building Attack trolls:

IPB Image

Hiding one attack troll cage will always suprise the enemy, as 1.05 does favour base scouting/spying.

IPB Image

Protecting them in your base can always help you too though.

Attack troll usage:

1. Army soldier: Attack Troll's real weakness is upgraded arrows and heroes. When running against pikes, press the ''S'' button to make them stop and not trample pikes. Then by simply attacking them, he will easily kill them. 3 of them mostly own any early/mid game hero.

2.Sneaky Attacker: Although this beasts nature just speaks for itself{'' Throw me to battle!'' tongue.gif }, their most favourable usage is sneak attacks on enemy fort. 1 can destroy an unupgraded undefended fort in a couple of seconds. 3 of them destroy an undefended full upgraded fortress in seconds. In most cases, 5 will suffice to take down a full upgraded fort surrounded by enemy forces too. There are a lot of people who prefer this than most of the new Mordor tactics in 1.05, since this is a 1.04 classic. Just mass 3-5 attack trolls and send them attack from one side. Lots of fireworks.

CAUTION: Beware, some upgraded towers with archers surrounding fort can really damage those beasts before even they touch the fort. And concerning LDs, only Darkness affects them.

Power Point path in favour of Attack Trolls:
Tainted Land>>>>Industry>>>>Barrage>>>>Balrog

If executed right, you will have the money to make so many attack trolls a Balrog would never come anyway. Pure old 1.04 10 minutes games smile.gif . When side attacking with attack trolls, if u see any towers or units guarding, Barrage them. This is the ultimate combo, as it destroys everything, and your opponent can't be saved. You will have ur first Attack Trolls before Barrage though, so it's up to you what to do.

IPB Image

This what you get in exchange... fireworks smile.gif

Attached is the replay, against isen. AT atack worked like a charm, but the enemy knew what I was up to anyway{ lucky lurtz!}
