So my story is that my graphics card has died from overheating issues from all the dust build up. Luckily I had a nice long warranty by PNY and I got it RMA'd...
It's been almost a week since I've played CoH. Now using integrated mobo graphics, the only games that work are NHL08 and I can't even go full screen or else it will crash! Oh and trial version of Age of Empires. I just ordered an i3, GIGABYTE motherboard, Corsair DDR3 RAM and it's all gonna come well, maybe in a week. Gosh it feels like I haven't played this game is forever, it's making me nuts.

I tried playing age of empires to keep myself out of boredom and yet I am going crazy because age of empires is a great RTS but it's reminding me of CoH, GAH!
Anyhow has anyone had to go on a break of CoH due to unlikely PC failures? Or maybe vacation, extra work, moving? etc. If so what did you do to keep yourself out of boredom? I have played 2 hours of CoH every night for almost 2 years, then tragedy stroke...
Now the worst part, I had the brilliant idea I would play my favorite game (other than CoH)... STARCRAFT! I take out the CD I dust it off and I press the little button that opens my optical drive and then!... Nothing, it doesn't open. I press it a couple times and it does not open at all. Now my 3rd plan.
I'll watch a HD movie! Without my graphics card I can't watch HD movies, integrated motherboard graphics just can't handle all those pretty little pixels no a big ass 24" monitor. Good thing I am keeping myself busy by reading The Art of War and packing my crap so I can move. Ahh the worst part for real, once I build my awesome new computer I will only get a few days to enjoy gaming before I have to move all the way to South Korea. That's gonna be another 3-4 months to wait to play CoH, since my computer is gonna be taken by the movers which means it has to come by boat.

-Edit Oh and the automatch thing, it has already killed me weeks ago. Haven't I told anyone that I waited 45 minutes to get a 5 min match vs a noob? And then I waited 30 more min after that to get matched with a lvl 14? I wasted much over an hour waiting for games that night...

My GPU died on me last week, whilst I was creating an EA account for the BFBC2 beta[pwned]...fan had been making a weird noise since before Xmas, figured it was dust on the fans and was no biggie...

I just get a mate to broadcast his 2v2 AT games with our friend and I just jump on TS and watch them for the time being.

Am gonna build a new PC, as soon as I can, dunno if I want to get an i5 or an i7 yet.I have the cash to get a few 5770's but meh, I'll just wait a month and see whats up with the new GPUs from Nvidia.

Well, PC's have a habit of dying out on us... sad.gif
On the CD front though, there IS something you can do.
Power off the machine get a needle or a straightened paperclip and push it all the way into the pinhole besides the eject button.
Wait, it gets better; you have to keep pumping the clip into the hole to slow eject the tray about half an inch or so.
And to close off gloriously, it takes a handjob to pull it all the way out.

Whether it will come to life and read anything afterwards; it's a different story.

(Before insinuations on the pinhole start, it's there for cases of power failure so as to remove sensitive data from the drive. Although whoever designed it was in dire need of some sexing up)

I've had to go without at times before. If gaming is a big part of your free time, as it is with me (there's only so much talking to the girlfriend, cooking, studying etc. I can handle). You need some kind of acceptable backup. This could be another PC, or in my case a xbox360. Sure I'd rather be playing CoH, but there's worse things than a session on MW2 when you can't play coh. You can transport a console around easily as well.

On a further note, I heard they've come out with a proper mouse and keyboard input for the ps3. Which means RTS can finally come to a console in a real capacity. This is potentially the final chapter in the death of PC gaming.

Errr, I know that trick but didn't work you see... My case is just a little bit different from others.
Oh and my brother taught me that trick, I've seen him perform them on laptops he was fixing for customers many times.
