Very recently, the originators of the Dawn of War franchise's Warhammer 40,000 universe, Games Workshop, announced the development of a new computer-generated feature film named Ultramarines. Ultramarines is fairly obviously starring the Ultramarines Chapter of the Space Marines but very little else is known about it at this time.
What they have elected to share with us so far is that Ultramarines will be roughly 70 minutes in length, and likely released directly to DVD rather than having any theatrical release. Ultramarines is being produced by London-based Codex Pictures, the same company behind the BIONICLE DVD trilogy.
Fans of the franchise may recall Games Workshop's similar attempt in the film field several years ago with Bloodquest, a fully animated feature film starring the Blood Angels Chapter. Unfortunately, Bloodquest was "put on hold" and the production company disbanded before work was ever resumed on the project. Hopefully Ultramarines fares significantly better.
I would even buy the dvd to support the guys even though I could probably rip it somewhere from the inet when it comes out.
+1. I hope it really does come out. Ultramarines have some great characters; i.e. Chapter Master Marneus Calgar (a stone cold badass who wields the Gauntlets of Ultramar), Chief Librarian Tigurius (the only Psyker in the Imperium to have direct contact with the Hive Mind and survive), and Uriel Ventris to name a few. In short, the movie has great potential. Whether they meet it, exceed it, or fail miserably remains to be seen.
a movie about ultramarines pretty much has to involve Nids. The last stand of their 1st Company Terminators is epic in their chapter Fluff.
I don't think you understand me. I hate Ultramarines, I don't want them to seem uber or epic. I want the nids to just STEAMROLL them and then the ultramarines get no sympathy.

That would be like rooting for Koreans...HanGuk HwaiTing!
I rather like one of the fa/tg/uy's comments about why it was the Ultramarines chosen.
"Going smurf to make them look like SC marines and use nids as zerg so if/when Blizz were to make a SC movie GW could call shenanigans"
Let's not forget that Ultramarines are the most generic of the (well-known) chapters. While others often deviate from the "mainstream" in some way (animalistic behaviour, drinking blood, dubious history, etc.) U-'Rines are your most typical knights in shinning armour bashing heads with their power-dicks in never ending awesome-wankery.
I mean their warcry is "Courage and Honour!" Wow, rly? You forgot the Emperor duuuuuudes.
And don't get me started on the word "Ultra", they might as well be called "Power Rangers".
Your blasphemous speech sounds like Heresy to me Jean=A=Luc ...
The Emperor knows, the Emperor is watching.
THAT!
Ultramarines are a great chapter, generic? Well they follow the Codex Astartes to the letter, nowadays that's actually kinda rare lol. I also like the Roman themes their honour guard has, among many other things, also Tyranid slaughterers(or Tyranid war vets whatever =p) ftWIN! =p
