Why do they do this?

Why have relic brough Beach assault and st mere back, is it not clear that most people hate these maps with a passion, I had just got the hang of playing on Industrial Riverbed and Flooded plains, but I really dont think that I can ever get the hang of playing on Beach assault and St Mere. Beach assault is OK if you want a change in tempo of the game in a basic match (a bit like the map Lyon)but in all fairness should be nowhere near automatch, St Mere, a Pak can cover all of the map almost and is very very campy and normally have to spend lots of boring hours grinding out a win or losing to campy med Bunker(which also covers half of the map). This would be OK apart from... the deselect button doesnt work properly and out of the 5 games I played today, 3 of them were on these maps. This leaves sturzdort ticked, this map is a lot like flipping a coin to decide who wins (whoever gets north usually wins). Can everybody state your thoughts on this to see if it is only me who feels this way.

Thanks

Pretty much agree with you. I can't stand any of the rotated maps in anything other than basic matches. For me, one more untick option would pretty much solve everything. Sturtz is probably the most unbalanced map on the list but I actually like playing on it. A few tweaks and it would be fine.

They rotate maps every month; this isn't new.

Uncheck two and work on improving your play on the other. There's no sense in complaining about something that isn't going to be changed.

I see where your coming from, but I dont understand why they rotate it, are they trying to prove a point or something, are they trying to MAKE people play the shitty maps that they created, I just dont understand why they make changes in the game that makes it more unenjoyable for everybody, its like their going out of their way to piss people off. And also, the uncheck button isnt reliable enough, I never want to play these maps however it seems that I play them as much as I play the maps that I dont untick.

Also thanks for your opinions everybody.

Unchecking doesn't guarantee you won't play the map. It only votes against it in the automatch system.

As for the rotations...Relic had a poll a while back asking us about our opinions on the maplist. The settled on a core list that the majority of people agreed were good, and created two rotations of three different maps which at least 30% of the community voted for. Their intentions are good: map variety should in theory lead to more enjoyment and a better game, only problem is, most of the maps are pretty bad.

If anything the differing opinions in this thread prove that people would like to play these maps sometimes. really the only thing you could ask for is functional unpicks but in some games you have no say at all. i think its a very good system right now. don't fix what aint broken thats what started the MG thing.

I totally agree with you, the intentions are good and the current automatch map system is good except their is one problem, the maps are horrible (or some of them are), im sure with all of the resources that relic has, if they really put their minds to it, they could create some good maps that everybody enjoys playing.

Relic are just trying to keep the game fresh, but I do agree with everything you said. The thing that gets me is they don't even have to spend resources creating new maps, all we need is a map contest. There are tons of custom 1v1 maps, made by good players for balance but they are ignored by the majority. Half the good maps in rotation are made by players not relic. More map contests ftw.

never understood the old 'different is better' logic

being punched in the balls whilst playing coh is different but it still sucks

And yes, we definitely need more map contests. But in order for it to work, GR needs to initiate it, and for that initiative to become popular, there needs to be some sort of incentive to playing it. If Relic sees a big enough interest, I'm sure they would place the winners of the contest in automatch rotation.

I mean think about it... what do you think the reason for all their polls on the official forums are for? Every listing they make for the community to take part in has a purpose. A while back, they asked how many people are involved with mods... and then a few months later they release a patch making it easier to mod the game.

I don't play Basic Match, so am unfamiliar with non-automatch maps. Today I finally got a game on Beach Assault. Somehow avoided that one until now, as a combination of luck and being away from CoH while that map is in rotation.

And wow... just wow, I was amazed at how bad the map is. And I thought Beaux is my least favorite... Beach Assault was just horrible to play on.

Speak for yourself, I think this is the best map rotation there is. I hate industrial riverbed and whatever the other one was. I like ruins and beach assault.

Once again give us three unticks and keep the crappy maps (and focus on more important things)

Beach Assault is just piss stupid for the PE. AT guns, and other like minded AT weapons get retardedly powerful when your opponent's most common unit type is effectively restricted to about 1/3rd of the map.

Id much rather play this game, with two unchecks, and 2,301 map list, than with two unchecks, three crappy maps, one unbalanced map, tbh.

I dont give a fuck if its still the same. Id play Langres and Ango every single time, if you ask me.

I agree that some maps are not that good, and i enjoy some maps more than others. But the only map i untick in 1v1 is Beach Assault when playing PE. It is just impossible to win on that map vs a competent USA. Apart from that i dont see any reason in unticking, even when i seem to get south sturz everytime.

You can blame it on balance, but i think its still possible to win on the other maps when you play right. Id rather improve my game then complain about it.

Btw new maps would be more than welcome if they are on the level of ango and langres smile.gif

I totally agree with you, the best games are almost always played on Angovile, Semois and Langres, each of them are different in some way and are totally balanced. So why do we need a change in the maps, when everyone agrees that the other 5 maps are a pile of toss. I think that this should be the following auotmatch maps.

One Deselect Option
Angoville
Langres
Semois
Wrecked Train
Rotate the 5th map between Industrial Riverbed and Ruins

also have the deselect option so that it is 100% certain that you will not get the map that you have deselected.
