I wouldn't count EA out with a BfME3 so fast yet, they're quite popular for hammering people with the same game every year.
I'm quite sure they're simply just too busy to make BfME3 yet and also its not a good time to release one though it would be excellent if they did it before SC2 so it has a chance of higher sales therefore larger community.

EALA is busy with RA3 atm, after this they are most likely gonna make an expansion pack. Earliest release date for another LotR franchise RTS by EALA is 2010 in all honesty. I personally think they won't release another title before "The Hobbit" movie anyways.

I'm expecting LotR: Conquest to take the front in EA's LotR arsenal, with a sequel to that game more likely with the Hobbit 1 & 2 (respectively). BfMe3 would be nice though.
I hope there wont be a BfME3. It's gotten to the point where they've ran out of idea's, so now they're making up creatures. Just imagine them trying to think of yet another 2-3 factions, new maps, new units for all 7 existing, and another story line for campaign. It'll be so diverse from the world Tolkein created that it'll be a regular 'magic' RTS, no different from the AoE games.

I believe Blizzard is "hoping" to release SC2 before 2011 and knowing Blizzard they'll give it plenty of time.
I agree with you TDA, they should release the game around the time or after "The Hobbit" is released.

Why does it take us to this section from the NP .

LoL taterz if you read tolkeins books, they've got PLENTY of ideas in fact the war of the ring was quite a weak war compared to some of the other ones.
i hope bfme3 comes out and they should make it like 10/10 goodness - unlike bfme2 and a decent campaign this time!!1! that is actually slightly challenging
In my opinion it should have some new gameplay aspects rather than entirely new lore. BFME2 was different from BFME in terms of gameplay as it had free base building, bigger hordes, a builder system, etcetera. BFME3 should have some new revolutionary gameplay in my opinion.
The lore is a problem as I stated in the article, because a lot of the books can't be accessed as the rights just won't be sold nor is there a large enough community behind to back it up. Would EA have made the BFME series if there hadn't been the successful LotR trilogy? I think not, because there just wouldn't have been enough guarantee that they would profit from such a project. The Hobbit does not provide the lore a new game needs as it covers a time 60 years prior to the LotR books, which is by far not enough to have enough different lands and peoples in Middle-Earth. For that you need to move back an Age or two and there either is the problem of inaccessible rights or not a large enough guarantee or fanbase.
BFME3=War of the first age, cmon Wars between the Valar? THat would be kick ass, and how many fucking expansions could you get out of that?!?!?! Elves/dwarves/MEn of Beleriand. Only with heroes liek Feanor and such. CMon dudes TONS of new gameplay right there.
First sentence is the greatest problem, the rights to it are not for sale, that's just it for now. Secondly, I doubt the Silmarillion community is as large as the LotR community.
