Now after a second week of the Monthly Ladder Wars, it's time to have a look at current standings:

Red Alert 3

TorchLight

DasDuelon

[ADT]yzzd--SS

firgli

Kane's Wrath

Bonu$_[RU]

vOddy

Technique

AoeNiaN

Tiberium Wars

Milk_inc_OwnZ

'-Cloverfield^

GreasyxEpidemic

vOddy

Remember to continue playing so you can ensure your spot in the tournament which will be held at beginning of the next month. Qualifying will end the last day of this month at 12:00 PM PST.

The best part of the Monthly Ladder Wars is that you don't need to be amongst the best players to win prizes. Electronic Arts will be sending prizes randomly throughout the season to commanders who have participated by playing ranked matches.

2POC from Electronic Arts has also interviewed our beloved Director of C&C!

INTERVIEW WITH METHUSELAH

Before we look at this week's ranks, I had a chance to do a short interview with GameReplay's C&C Director Methuselah to get his take on the new Monthly Ladder Wars Program.

2POC: So what do you think of the new "Monthly Ladder Wars" for Red Alert 3, Kane’s Wrath and Tiberium Wars?

Methuselah: I love them! I cut my teeth on Tiberian Sun and that was how it was back then. I remember fondly trying to do my best each month to finish as high as I could...knowing I stood no chance at any of the prizes of the Hall of Fame, it was still a blast. It is great that you guys are awarding random players every month!

2POC: How do you think it’s gone so far?

Methuselah: I think it is off to a terrific start. Over 13,000 players have played on 6,150 matches in two and a half weeks. That seems pretty clear to me.

2POC: How do you handicap the proceedings so far?

Methuselah: I think it’s wide open at this point. Lots of familiar faces…Technique (twice), vOddy (twice), firgli, Wanted, and many, many others. All of them have a shot. That is part of the beauty of the whole thing.

2POC: Anything else you’d like to add?

Methuselah: On behalf of the entire Command & Conquer community I’d like to thank EA for putting this on. This is going to be great theater for most of us to watch….and then we get to do it all over again next month!

Source: commandandconquer.com: Monthly Ladder Wars Update and Interview

Further details about the Monthly Ladder Wars is available from commandandconquer.com

C&C 3 News - Tips for Improvement

With the rollout of the new Tip system Mav thought this a perfect opportunity to offer up some Tips of his own for examples. Hopefully you will embrace the Tip system as it speaks to what GameReplays is all about.

Improving your game.

So without further delay here are Mav's Tips for Improvement!

Tips for Improvement

General

Scouting is essential to gain map control and to see what your opponent is planning.

You should have micromanaged your attack units better. Having seen your opponent dashing towards you from the left, place defensive towers as well as keep some units handy. In the meantime, you could try to utilize the right flank to put added pressure on your opponent by attacking him with your own units. You can group them using default Ctrl + 1 / 2 / 3 etc.

One of your Harvesters went giddy trying to understand where to offload. This could be a glitch, in which case you need to keep your eye out and order them in.

Remember that Nod harvesters are stealthed; therefore, keeping stealth detectors or Pitbulls near your Tiberium fields is advisable. Your opponent was stealing tiberium under your nose and you kept ignoring warnings of 'Stealth detected'.

Remember that Black hand has no air; your opponent would be aware of this and try to use air attacks on you. Keep adequate defenses in such a scenario, but only if an air attack is imminent.

Keep an eye out on your power meter, especially if you decide to go for a Crane and have two build queues. You do not want to go offline at the wrong time.

Why were you trying to attack your opponent's base with your tanks reversed? You exposed your side armor which is weaker than the front armor.

A simple Watchtower can take out an Engineer trying to capture your MCV, but this is not foolproof. Packing up your base is, while the Watchtower takes care of the emerging Engineer, but remember to place your Watchtower and not just have it queued up as it would get canceled the instant you pack up.

Always provide adequate protection when moving your MCV, Construction Yard or Drone ship.

An Obelisk of Light is an advanced and powerful defense and needs electricity. Placing it behind a Power Plant can make your opponent exasperated trying to bring it down.

Do not get confused when changing from KW to TW. Remember that in TW, playing on Tournament tower, you gain radius to place a Refinery on the hill by simply placing your first Refinery towards the edge followed by a War Factory, whereas in KW you need to base-crawl towards the edge. Do not forget that in TW, Engineers can instacapture and do not have a 'delay'.

Power down structures when you go 'offline' by using default Ctrl + X.

Your opponent was a nanosecond ahead of you in build queues, probably due to him / her using hotkeys. Try to master them to suit your style.

Once your 'build' is ready, place it immediately. You wasted precious seconds in doing so, giving your opponent a slight edge. When playing against a top player, this can be an overwhelming disadvantage.

When placing structures like your Gravity Stabilizer / War Factories / Refineries (whichever provide additional build radius), try to gain area towards your secondary Tiberium fields, but always keep a lookout and provide for protection and base defenses.

If you notice a pulsating Wormhole near your vicinity, try to take advantage by sending your own forces through it, before the aliens send their own. Unfortunately for Scrin, the Wormhole is a two-way tunnel.

Orbital strikes / Supersonic strikes / Shockwave Artillery are all expensive and have a cool-down period. Use them wisely. You had the opportunity to utilize one or more of these Support Powers on your opponent, which would have dealt a good blow, but you failed to do so.

Remember, seeing an attack force heading towards you does not necessarily mean that your opponent has the upper hand. He may be trying to psyche you into thinking he has additional units at his base. Try to mount a counter of your own.

When you click Automatch and select 'Widen search', if you find a top ten player on the other end, fall to your knees and pray, however, playing him till the end would be a better choice as then you can save the replay and watch how he goes about dismantling you. Try to learn and enjoy the game.

Counters

Since your opponent was spamming a lot of Infantry, Snipers or Sharpshooters can come in handy. If you have adequate income on hand, try to utilize a Space Command Uplink's Shockwave Artillery support.

Place AA Batteries / Sam turrets / Plasma batteries in case you notice that your opponent has an Airfield or that Orcas, Firehawks or Venoms are present.

When you noticed the first bombardment from the Juggernauts, immediately realize there is a stealthed Sniper team in the vicinity. Use Pitbulls or stealth detectors to rout them out.

When playing against Nod, place structures in between your Refineries to avoid cataclysmic damage from the Catalyst Missile. Reduce the damage but don't try to sell off Refineries once you notice the 'bleep'. Sometimes the Catalyst Missile can fizz.

Remember that an Armageddon Bomber (the Nod aircraft that drops the Tiberium Vapor bomb, mine drop, etc.) can be knocked down easily by well-placed Missile Squads and AA Batteries. More often than not, the Vapor Bomb is unleashed on your Tech Center or on infantry.

Remember that a Drone Ship can easily be taken down with a Redeemer's head butt, but chances of this happening are extremely remote.

A Mothership can be taken down by your Drone Ship as well. Just prick it in the center and watch it disintegrate.

You had the Stasis Shield power, why didn't you use it? You could have ensnared the group of tanks near your Technology Assembler, giving you enough time to call in a counter.

When you hear warnings of 'Commando detected' you know it's the Mastermind or the Prodigy on the prowl. Immediately hit 'H' and see that your MCV / Construction Yard has defenses and keep some handy.

Don't forget to use Laser Fencing to guard against those pesky Engineers.

Infantry

Since you decided on spamming infantry, a Composite Armor upgrade via the Armory provides for a healthy boost to their hit points. In case of Nod, a Secret Shrine paves the way for Confesser / Tiberium infusion abilities and in case of Scrin, try to research Advance Articulators for your Disintegrators.

Your Engineer was idling away his time near the spikes / EMP Center, waiting for your orders.

Black Disciples can be researched through the Secret Shrine which provides for one Black hand for each Militant rocket. Purifying Flame strengthens their hit points.

Since you had expanded towards the upper field, you may as well have placed a Barracks / Hand of Nod / Portal and captured the nearby Spike.

You can clear garrisoned structures with your Grenadiers / Black hands or Buzzers.

Buzzers make for agile scouts and literally allow you to own the map initially, provided you micro them well. Use this advantage to the hilt for capturing your opponents Spikes / EMP center etc.

Your infantry tended to waste too much time ogling at the Nod Commando, resulting in them getting slaughtered. Avoid her charm.

Your GDI Commando can be jetpacked, similar to the Zone Troopers' ability. Use this for attack as well as retreat. If you notice Snipers, back away. Of course you can do nothing against Venoms, unless you have Pitbulls and Missile Squads.

Power packs provide a longer scan radius to your Zone Troopers apart from giving them healing power over time while standing still. You need an Armory.

Set your infantry on aggressive stance by using default key Ctrl + A. This way you need not worry on ordering them to 'shoot at sight', unlike in real life which could be hazardous to public health.

Tiberium Troopers if upgraded can be useful by giving you an advantage of a longer range, over your opponents infantry, unless ofcourse, he too is playing as MoK.

Vehicles

The MARV has four slots for berthing appropriate infantry. Always ensure to berth your attack units first before taking your Engineers in. This way, you get a bit more range, like say from Railgun turrets once Zone Troopers are slotted in first.

If you are up against Scrin, be wary of Buzzers and try to outdo them by two-to-one or send an APC / Wolverine early, before sending your Engineer.

The MARV is more useful if you can use it for harvesting Tiberium, as it can gather rather quickly, giving you fast income to bring out counter units. Of course it is good for attacking as well. You need to chose depending on how the game progresses.

A Hexapod earns income each time it brings down units or structures. Provide protection whilst it goes about its destructive ways.

Upgrade to AP Ammo when faced with an APC and/or Wolverine spam.

Though Railgun Accelerators are good in a given situation, they slow down your tanks, so be careful. However, the Railgun upgrade is a good choice if given the opportunity and income.

Your Reaper Tripod has the ability to infuse more Tiberium by increasing its storage by researching it. They can cause more damage.

Aircraft

Firehawks can be armed with air-to-air missiles and can prove extremely useful against Devastator Warships and Planetary Assault Carriers.

EMP can vaporize Devastator Warships and Planetary Assault Carriers without force fields. Even Venoms are not spared. Use this to your advantage in case you play against such factions on a map with an EMP control center on hand to capture.

If you plan on an early Orca rush, try to research 'Ceramic upgrade' to cause more damage.

Support / Harassment

Since you had Devastator Warships and Planetary Assault Carriers, try to place a Storm Column to give them some immunity. Forcefield upgrade buys you time as well but is costly.

You should have hit the repair button (Ctrl + C) immediately once your MCV etc. came under shock treatment.

Placing a Lightning Spike near your opponent's Refineries provides for useful harassment, and if your opponent is lazy not to counter, it could prove fatal to his harvesters.

You had the opportunity when you first harassed your opponent to bring out some more units and finish the job off, instead of playing the wait-and-build game.

There would always be room for improvement and the tips above are simply a sort of 'Ready reckoner' for those wishing to employ them. The wording and tone could be different, but the gist would not vary much.

Furthermore, there are some very useful and nice guides portalised by the talented GR.Org staff like Epsilon, Xlavania, Hogo, Regenerit, You'reMystar, SynthC and other equally talented members, which can be quite enjoyable and informative.

Finally, don't forget the Ten Commandments:

Thou shalt scout.

Thou shalt use hotkeys.

Thou shalt master micromanagement.

Thou shalt build with order and method.

Thou shalt counter your opponent's attack force with thine own appropriate counter.

Thou shalt utilize resources, like Tiberium.

Thou shalt persevere to place structures properly.

Thou shalt use support powers wisely.

Thou shalt give rise to offensive capabilities.

Thou shalt be humble and defensive.

Please add your own tips to the list!
