Since a lot of members seek guidance from more experienced players in order to improve their own skills, you can upload your replays in the Replay Review Topic and get yourself tips and advices from our Strategy Specialists.

All you have to do is to make a new post in the Replay Review Topic and add a replay file of your choice as an attachment. The replay files (*.rec) for Soulstorm are saved in the Playback folder of the Dawn of War installation folder-
(i.e. C:\Games\THQ\Dawn of War - Soulstorm\Playback)

Vista and Windows 7 users will find their saved replays under C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Appdata\Local\Virtualstore\Program Files\THQ\Dawn of War - Soulstorm

Be sure to uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"!

After you have uploaded your replay and requested a review, one of our Strategy Specialists will get to it as soon as possible.

Soulstorm News - The Fall of Medusa V: 8 FFA

The first round of The Fall of Medusa V Survival Tournament is over and Commander wuzz has written a battle report of the recorded events.

At the end of the report you can also find the recorded files from the picter, which you can load into your cogitator to re-witness the events of the first battle.

Background Information

Space Marines

The outcome of this battle was good for the Space Marines. They suffered heavy losses by the powers of the Eldar and Chaos but they also managed to destroy the chaotic taint from this world. Captain Sicarius of the Ultramarines 2nd chapter, took it upon himself to behead the Chaos Lord of that legion, and succeeded. The main loses of the Space Marines came not from Chaos, but from the mystical Eldar of Alaitoc, who the captain, after the battle, swore that he would personally kill the Farseer in the name of the glorious God Emperor.

Eldar

The Eldar, same as the Space Marines, had a good outcome. They suffered losses, but not as heavily as the Space Marines. After the chaotic taint was slain by the Captain Sicarius, the Eldar of Alaitoc layed still and kept as quiet as possible, preventing them from losing this conflict. Their small ambushes on the Space Marine central command did not go unnoticed however. So the Eldar are preparing for the next conflict, but the Eldar Farseer, in her utmost wisdom, does not fear the Space Marines, but fears the Necrons, of whom she saw a vision of them destroying all life on the planet. If the Eldar cant stop them, who will?

Chaos

On this day, the Ruinous Powers of Chaos fell to the power of the loyalist Space Marines. In a battle of epic proportions, they faced each other, brother to brother. It was feared by the Force Commander, that if he did not strike at the powers of Chaos soon, they would be able to guide the Sorceror of the Black Legion into Daemonhood! Which could end all life on the planet. The Chaos Space Marines of the Black Legion fought a valiant fight against the Space Marines, some may even say heroic but their fight was not enough and they were purged from the face of the planet by their loyalist brothers.

Necrons

Awakened from the planet, the Necron Lord of Medusa V fought a battle against many foes on the field, except this was not a day of victory for the Necrons as they suffered very heavy losses at the hands of the Imperial Guard, the Dark Eldar and even small raids from their ancient enemies, the Eldar. The Necrons suffered losses so heavy, that they retreated to the Tomb World. The Necrons, however are not beaten, and once the Tomb Spyders have regenerated the powerful army of the dead, the Necrons will be back, just in time for the next slaughter. Beware armies of Medusa V ...

Imperial Guard

The Imperial Guard suffered losses from the powerful Orks, but in the end managed to beat them back. With the powerful Kasrkin and Ogryns they smashed a devastating blow against the Orks. After this menace was wiped from Medusa V, the Imperial Guard faced death itself ... the Necrons. The Imperial Guards forward units, who had just fought the battle against the Orks, were not prepared and were promptly destroyed by these evil machines. The Imperial Guard suffered devastating losses in that conflict, but by the hand of the Emperor, they managed to deal a terrible blow to the Necrons by destroying a Monolith with a powerful Baneblade. But, because of the heavy losses of Guardsmen and vehicles, the Imperial Guard were forced to retreat and gather more resources. Just like the Necrons, the hammer of the Emperor will be back.

Orks

The Warboss Nazdreg Ug Urdgrub of the Deathskulls clan, put up a valiant fight against the Imperial Guard. But the better equiped, better prepared Guardsmen beat back this scum in the name of the god emperor. As the battle was drawing to a close, the Warboss, in all orky nature, got into his ship and lifted into space. The nob who was with him declared "Whys we runnin' boss?". The Warboss declared in a loud voice "It aint runnin' see, cause wez commin' back fer unudder go". He then promptly beat the Nob over the head and proceeded to the next world to gather another WAAAGH! for another conflict. Needless to say, the Orks had been driven off the world, like Chaos, and would not be returning to Medusa V for a very long time ...

Dark Eldar

The Dark Eldar of the Black Heart Kabal, did not gain as many souls as they had wished for, as their main enemy were the Necrons, who yielded no souls ... However, the Dark Eldar fought with bravery against this ancient foe, and quelled the Necrons for a short time. Even the No'kaei graced the battlefield on her Dais of Destruction, and sowed terror into the hearts of even the soulless Necrons. The Dark Eldar perhaps, were the one army apart from the Eldar, who suffered minimal losses after the initial fight with the Necrons. Some say it was luck, others say it was their passion to beat this ancient foe. But the real reason was that the Dark Eldar were underestimated as a bunch of rebels, which is what they initially were, but rebels with the firepower of evil and destruction. Another army to be afraid of.

Tau Empire

The Tau, after this starting conflict, regretted coming out to fight these armies. They suffered very devastating loses against the Eldar, and managed to retreat just in time before the Ethereal was targeted for assassination by the hands of the very capable rangers. They managed to relocate their base to a destination further away from the Eldar, except they relocated very close to the Space Marines, who promptly drove them away, almost killing the Ethereal. A sniper shot hit this very old and wise ethereal in the arm, almost killing him. The Ethereal was told to pull out, but he disagreed, and is preparing for the next battle on this horrible world ...

Conclusion

Two races have fallen at the hands of, nonetheless, the Imperium. First the Orks killed by the Imperial Guard, and secondly Chaos killed by the powers of the Space Marines. Who will win this terrible conflict? Who will rule Medusa V?

Soulstorm News - The Fall of Medusa V

Introduction

Commander wuzz, formerly of the Iron Hands and now a member of the Dawn of War: Soulstorm Deathwatch clan, is organising a Survival Tournament called The Fall of Medusa V with a fluffy background, where each participating player is fighting for one race.

The planet of Medusa V is a world on the brink of destruction. An incoming warp storm is close to destroying the whole of the planet. Unfortunately, for our armies of the 41st millennium, they all have an agenda on the planet, all of which could seal their fates forever. Countless battles will be fought, thousands of lives will be taken, but only one race can become the victor, only one race can rule the planet of Medusa V.

Rules

Since only one player can win a Free for All, the first player that is annihilated in a round will drop from the The Fall of Medusa V Tournament. In the opening round the first two players that are killed will drop (since there are no 7 player maps in Dawn of War: Soulstorm), after that the maps will get smaller and smaller with each round until only two players remain, who will fight for the ultimate win in a 1on1 (Best of Three).

Background Information

Space Marines

The Space Marines have come to defend this world, primarily from Chaos but also the other threats that loom on this Chaos tainted world. Captain Sicarius of the Ultramarines 2nd Company has taken command of several Space Marine chapters to aid in the purge of this world.

Chaos Marines

The Chaos Space Marines have come to the planet of Medusa V because of a vision that Ygethmor, Sorceror Lord of the Black Legion and Chosen of Abaddon, has had, in which he is ascending into Daemonhood, which will turn the world inside out and into a Chaos planet. Who can stop these monsters of the warp?

Orks

The Orks have simply come to this planet for some fun and a good fight! The Warboss Nazdreg Ug Urdgrub, of the Third Armageddon War, is commanding his WAAAGH! to the planet. The warboss was long presumed dead after the war of Armageddon, but it seems somehow he escaped and has gathered a large WAAAGH!.

Necrons

The Necrons have a different agenda on Medusa V, although similar to the Orks in some way. A Necron Lord underneath Medusa V, which the Necrons know as The Herald of the Storm, has been stirring, which was forseen by the Eldar in a vision. Now it seems the Tomb Spiders are awakening the Necrons for an evil purpose. Legions of Scarabs are erecting great Monoliths to hold the warp storm at bay. When they are all prepared, the Monoliths will create a shield around the planet which will prevent the warp storm from entering which leaves the Necrons to destroy all life on the planet with great ease.

Eldar

The Eldar have come to Medusa V in an attempt to save themselves. The Craftworld Alaitoc is on a Webway path from Medusa V which is always open, meaning anything can come and go as it pleases. The Eldar have decided to close the portal forever, but this requires a ritual to be done on the planets surface, thus meaning the Eldar are drawn into direct conflict with all the armies.

Dark Eldar

The Dark Eldar have not come in a unified state as the other races have done. They are led by No'kaei, former protector to Asdrubael Vect. She became exiled from Commorragh shortly after disagreement with her master. Since then she has made a big name for herself and many Dark Eldar have flocked to her side in the promise of conquest and souls! She needs millions of souls to go back to Commorragh with as a bribe to become new leader of the Dark Eldar.

Tau Empire

Unlike the other races, the Tau were already on Medusa V attempting to research the secrets of warp travel with underground facilities. The Tau forces are threatened by the imperium so they are preparing for war with their leader Aun'T'Pel, a High Ethereal.

Imperial Guard

The Imperial Guard, like the Space Marines, have answered the call of Medusa V with over 100 companies. They have been ordered to retake the world no matter the cost. Lord Marshal Graf Harazahn of the Voystran Firstborn is commanding the regiments.

Soulstorm News - Elsemore Entertainment Soulstorm Tourney

Vaul is hosting the Elsemore Entertainment Soulstorm Tourney. Some of the best players in the Electronic Sports League have been invited to play in this eight player tournament, which will not be random race, like Vaul's previous tournament. There will also be some VoD (Video on Demand) coverage of the games.

The Rules

The games will be Bo3 (Best of Three) and you can expect the final game will be Bo5 (Best of Five).

Game rules will be:

Do not trash talk your opponent or distract with needless conversation during the game.
Do not intentionally abuse any new bugs that you may have found out about in the current patch for Dawn of War: Soulstorm or that aren't specified here, or use any kind of cheat or third party program that gives you an unfair advantage.
If you pick Eldar, and (only if) your opponent picks Space Marines, you are not allowed to research Ranger Infiltration until tier two (i.e until you have completed a Soul Shrine).
If you pick Sisters of Battle, you are not allowed to have more than six Rhino vehicles at any point in time (obviously you can replace them if they die, but you may not have more than six on the field at once).
If you pick Sisters of Battle, you are not allowed to purchase a Veteran Sister Superior for any of your squads with the intention of abusing the bug which resets the timer for Angelic Visage and Krak Grenades once the leader purchase is complete. To avoid this, upgrade the leader first before using any of these abilities, or wait for at least 120 seconds after using either ability before using it again. This one will be hard to avoid in the heat of battle, so players will be given the benefit of the doubt if a mistake is made - however penalties will apply if abuse is obvious from the replay!
If you pick Necrons, you are not allowed to abuse any of the bugs relating to the Deceiver. This one is unlikely to crop up as an issue, but in general - if you happen to be in a game featuring the Deceiver, just don't abuse any of the bugs related to the Tau Ethereal, Eldar Warp Spiders etc.
Finally, please, please, please do not go and edit the default race colour schemes with horrific looking colours. Nobody will be disqualified over stuff like this, but I will be upset and will mock you when commentating. Nobody wants to look at barbie-pink Space Marines. Do everyone a favour and just leave the game-preset team colours as default. I would prefer to pitch this as a serious tournament as much as possible.

The Electronic Sports League's European Dawn of War section is now featuring a coverage series called Hot seat with darkiz where darkiz interviews different players of the Dawn of War community.

This interview features Perry "hungry_womble" Borer, a Space Marine player from the System Overload clan. His latest success was the second place in the Soulstorm is not dead yeat Cup.

The Interview

First of all, please introduce yourself do our readers.

Hi my name is Perry also known as hungry_womble. I am 17 years old and my favourite race is Space Marines, although I'm also a fan of CSM, Ork, Cron and SoB. I joined DoW in mid Dark Crusade, got introduced to DoWs and saw a lot of replays. After a long time I developed a reasonable understanding of the game and was able to play reasonable well. I met darkiz and we made love.

You started in mid DC, which means you have been playing quite a time now. What makes Dawn of War so special that it lets you keep playing again and again?

I guess what I enjoy most about playing Dawn ofWar is the mental challenge of considering strategy and how to play the best. As there are a ton of different matchups and a fair few playable maps DoW is very sustaining in this department. Once you become happy with all the intricacies of one matchup you can move onto working out another and then you can learn a new race etc.. At the moment I'm trying to learn SoB.

You started playing with Orks first, then you changed to Space Marines. Why is that?

I decided to pick up Orks because they seemed a fun race and when I started they didn't seem to be very widely played (which appealed). As I became better in late Dark Crusade I realised that in a lot of matchups they were overpowered, which put me off playing them as having a racial advantage subtracts from any wins. I also realised I didn't particularly like the T2 Ork playstyle whereby you have to mix melee and ranged and chase your opponent around the map. Playing SM where you can control the motion of the game appealed more.

What are your strenghts and weaknesses? Do you rage often when you lose?

I do sometimes but I think less than some other players. I also normally manage to avoid taking it out on the other player - I just get frustrated at myself. I think one of my strengths is that I try to think through every action and do not do something unnecessary. I frequesntly re-asses strategy within matchups to try and tighten my game. My main weakness is that my striking reflection sometimes distracts me mid game if I catch a glimpse of it in the mirror above my pc.

When did you start playing competively and what was your first tournament?

To be honest I can't remember, I guess something on ESL. Probably a match in one of the clan league seasons?

At the moment you are playing for System Overload. Are you enjoying your time in sO?

There is one finnish player that really gets on my tits but otherwise fine. I knew the team leader Abacus long before he made sO and he was nice enough to take the time to teach me and to improve my play. He also introduced me into the more competitive side of the playerbase. He is cool guy and was my only real reason for joining sO at the time. Since ofc, I have met other people within the clan that cause genital arousal.

Can you tell us about your clan history? What were your former clans? You can greet your former clanmates if you want.

I joined NeO - thx to Abacus for letting me spend time with the clan guys (aka HLD). Then Ijoined GW and then sO.

How do you see the future of yourself - as a player - and your team?

I got invited into Vaul's cup which should be fun. Also hopefully there will be another CL and another 1v1 tournament. Hopefully the game will keep going for as long as possible despite lack of AM or money tournaments.

You placed 2nd in "SoulStorm is not dead yet" cup. You faced one of the best players at the moment and best Tau player epIx.epIx won 2:1 but you did pretty well during the whole tournament. What do you think about your final game vs. epIx and the tournament?

It's very hard to beat epIx's Tau, so although obviously I tried my best to win I wasn't particularly surprised that I lost. I do have to play him in first round of Vaul's cup so I need some new ideas fast! The rest of tourny was enjoyable. I didn't do very well in the darkiz cup (yours I guess) after flopping early on vs white_ZuBR and then losing to Milf's

So you got invited to Vaul's tournament. Very well known oldschool players like Santiago4ever, epIx, marteffyo and others participate. Who will win and what is your goal in this tournament?

Santi is always gonna be a contender in any tournament. epIx also has a fair chance of winning if he can improve his anti ork since his games versus Santi in ESL. But if marteffyo is in form (despite being inactive) my money is on him. He has an awesome orky t1.5 which seems the best time to strike vs Tau. He also has a positive win record in ork mirrors verus Santi afaik. Ideally I hope to beat epIx , maybe camp my way to victory vs marteffyo (although that will be tricky as 2nd default map is soe) and then hax santi in the final. Or maybe get you to play my game and rape them all with afl strategy.

Do you think SoulStorm is going to die soon, are players moving to other games like Starcraft 2 and other new games? What is the future of Soulstorm in your opinion?

I think there will be enough good players to keep DoW fun as long as ESL keeps hosting tournaments and other things and community events continue such as Vaul's cup. These keep up an interest for the playerbase and give them incentive to play lobby games/ games with friends etc.

Can you name me your top 3 players & clans in Soulstorm at the moment and why you chose them?

Best players who are at least partially active are ServaNt and Santiago4ever, maybe you could state epIx as the third best, but although he is definitely a good player I feel that his choice of race is at least part responsible for his success. Clanwise it has to be Fallen-Soulz (it has ServaNt, DaNfz, Tr1v, marteffyo JeuneGen etc.), perhaps TOXiC 2nd? Maybe System Overload third? I'm not sure.

What about your personal life. How do you spend your free time other than playing Soulstorm. Any girlfriend/boyfriend?

I go to a 6th form college. I like seeing friends/parties etc. ofc. I also compete at judo fairly competitively. Closest I have to a girlfriend at the moment is my hand =/.
