BfME News - Mentor/Mentee Program Launched

The much awaited and heavily requested mentor/mentee program is going to be launched here on Gamereplays.org once again for BfME.

Taking part in this program as a mentee will enable you to get a better understanding with your faction of choice and certain match-ups depending on your mentor. You will find that being taught by a fellow BfME gamer is always a fun way and easy way to hone your skills as a better player.

The most important part of the program are the mentors. If you think you have what it takes to pass on your knowledge to a lesser skilled player then it would be much appreciated and a great experience for you to do so. It is often said, teaching someone also expands your own knowledge!

The Mentor/Mentee program will commence for three weeks in which you will be given your mentor/mentee and a topic located in the forums for your own sole use.

Sign-ups have now started and will be open for registration until the 28th of October. May it be a great experience for everyone!

Registration Topic

BfME News - A Big Step Forward for BfME TV

BfME TV, the live broadcasting service of BfME games on the GameReplays portal, is being expanded. Games will be broadcasted much more frequently now and another player has started broadcasting: jnrd, former rank one player on the official ladder and former Rohan Strategy Specialist, now also has his own broadcasting channel.

Another new addition to BfME TV are live broadcasted Quick Match sessions. These will mostly be done spontaneously by one of the broadcasters, so there will be no time to announce the games on the portal. Therefore there is a topic in BfME General Discussion where the broadcasters of BfME TV announce their games and recommend videos that can be found in their channel's on-demand library. So you can now look over these guys' shoulders in all or most games they play in Quick Match! Just check the announcement topic every now and then, maybe someone is broadcasting at the time you are looking at it. If not, then you might find information about one of the already recorded videos that are especially worth a watch on-demand. Also you can of course just scroll through the channels to see whether someone is broadcasting at that time or watch some video on-demand of your choice.

Happy watching everyone!

Go to the different channels:

Tournament Channel

Segway's Channel

Jnrd's Channel

BcVcB's Channel

Alan's Channel

BfME News - Replay of the Week: The^Us3D versus AquaCity

We have a new Replay of the Week for this section. The two players fighting each other were The^Us3D versus AquaCity. The match-up was Rohan versus Gondor on the map Eastern Rohan. The game showed some good variety, micromanagement skills, entertaining battles and a great comeback for Gondor from an almosty hopeless position.

[replay]96362[/replay]

Neither of the players had a big advantage in the beginning. Gondor took the Outpost on the top right quite early in the game and shortly after the bottom right Outpost, too. Meanwhile Rohan went for an Entmoot rush, but Gondor managed to defend their base with a combination of Knights, Faramir and Elven Allies. Rohan managed to destroy Gondor's main base with Rohirrim, Aragorn and Theoden's Glorious Charge but failed to land the final blow. Gondor lost both Outposts but bought back their base and got Eagles. The Eagles are what broke Rohan the neck, they almost completely wiped out Rohan's army. Gondor rolls in with an army of Trebuchets and Tower Guards along with Gandalf to finally destroy Rohan's base and wins the game.

Gondor's Eagles taking down Rohan's Well after picking off their Rohirrim

If watching this replay has helped or entertained you, then consider checking out the following links, too:

Visit the Replay section and find more Replay of the Week replays.

Discuss or download this replay in its topic.

BfME News - Screenshot of the Week #18 Results

Another Screenshot of the Week competition has ended. Sadly the decrease of activity with regard to screenshot submissions, which might have to do with the removal of medals, has continued. Only four screenshots were submitted to compete against each other this time. Therefore it has been decided that there will be no other Screenshot of the Week competition until further notice. It might be started again at some point in the future though.

ToRtUr3^ won this last competition with his screenshot "Suicidal Balrog", which got 7 of 17 votes, two more than the second best screenshot. It shows a Balrog summoned in the middle of several mines, which foreshadows that Balrog is going to die in the next second!

Congratulations to ToRtUr3^, who has won this competition twice in a row now! Thank you to the few who still participated!

View the other screenshots submitted for this competition and the results of the poll

BfME News - The ESL is hosting a tournament

The ESL BfME admins are hosting a tournament called "Random Cup" for all the BfME fans. It is a single elimination 1on1 tournament where everyone has to play random, hence the cup name. ESL are inviting you to compete versus other BfME players on the Fords of Isen in patch 1.03. The pairrings will be decided by lot and the above-noted player in the tournament tree is hosting the game.

To sign up for the tournament you must register on the ESL website, and then create a gameaccount for the Battle For Middle-Earth league. This whole stuff only lasts about five minutes and should not be a barrier. After you did that you are able sign up for the tournament under this link.

To gather more information about the tournament, have a look at the ESL news.

Let's have an exciting and successfull tournament!

Best regards,
your ESL BfME Admins

BfME News - Replay of the Week: Segway versus Maia

Another replay has been promoted to Replay of the Week. This time we have a one versus one Mordor against Isengard game. The map for this game was Fords of Isen and the two players facing each other were TheDanceKing (alias Segway) and B00M3RRR (also known as Maia or Jack). Both of these players are multiple past ClanWars.cc tournament winners and very experienced veterans. Maia is a BfME expert and Segway is our new Senior Gamecaster, so the replay could be quite interesting to watch.

[replay]89841[/replay]

The game starts off with Mordor running straight across the river taking both mills from Isengard's side to get an economical advantage early on. Isengard shows some good harassment. Both players pick an established strategy for their army: Mordor going fast Nazgul while Isengard gets the Fire upgrade as soon as possible. Mordor gains a good amount of Powerpoints and gets Darkness quite quickly, builds up a decent army of Combos/Trolls and takes map control. Isengard shows some good base defense and even when Balrogs come into play, Isengard uses its Balrog summon to defend its base against the other Balrog. Mordor has played way more offensive during that game and comes out victorious after many entertaining battles and Balrog summons.

Balrog flying out of the destroyed Isengard base, escaping from the enemy Balrog

If you have not seen any Balrog versus Balrog battles yet, then this might be the perfect replay to watch. There have also only been a few minor mistakes throughout the game, so it is one of the higher tier games.

Check out the following links too:

Find more exciting Replay of the Week replays

Get help from our Strategy Specialists or other experienced players in our strategy subforums

Discuss and download this replay

BfME News - Sign up for the King of the Hill Tournament

GameReplays.org organizes another tournament for The Battle for Middle Earth, the King of the Hill Tournament. The model of this tournament is quite different from all previous tournaments: there will be neither a group phase nor a knockout phase in the main round.

Details:
The winner of the main round will be the player who has lasted the longest (in games) as "King". Every day at 20:00 GMT (22:00 Central European Summer Time) the current King will be required to play a selected challenger. If the King wins, he remains King. If the challenger wins, he is the new King. Challenging players are to sign-up by posting in the Challenge Thread. They will then be selected to play on a certain day.

As there is no King at the start, the first game will be played between two challengers. From then on the current King is expected to play every day or surrender, in which case also two new challengers would play against each other.

All games will be broadcasted live (20:00 GMT each day) on the Tournament Channel on BfME TV. On the right hand side on the BfME Portal Home there is a countdown telling you the time until the next game. It is recommended to check that countdown frequently because in cases of exception it may also be that a game takes place at 19:00 GMT already. There you can also find another link to the broadcast channel.

The sign-up starts immediately and will remain open during the tournament. The first game of the tournament will be played tomorrow (Saturday, September 19) already. The duration of the tournament is not determined, it will depend on how many players sign up.

The finals will take place after the main round and work as follows: The final King and of the other players the two longest lasting ones will play a mini-tournament.. The longest lasting player will have a bye for the first round of this mini-tournament. The two other players will play a best-of-three. The winner of them will play against the longest lasting King in the grand final, which will also be played as best-of-three.
As it is possible that two or more players lasted equally long as King in the main round, whoever of them had his games at later dates will be given the advantage.

Further notes:

Everyone is welcome to sign-up, even if you do not think you are a good player. The only restriction is that players who have already played and lost in the tournament are not allowed to sign up a second time.

All games are played on a neutral host and the players can choose their faction before each game, which may also be a random army. On the unlikely event that both players change their faction choice based on what their opponent chooses again and again in an endless circuit, both players have to play with a random army.

Unless both players agree otherwise, the default map is Fords of Isen.

If there are any questions or concerns regarding the tournament, contact BcVcB

Good luck to all players!

BfME News - Replay of the Week: B3t3rw3l versus AquaCity

We have a new Replay of the Week highlight! Two top quickmatch players were facing off against each other on Eastern Rohan in a Gondor versus Isengard match-up. The two people who battled out this game were B3t3rw3l playing as Isengard versus AquaCity (alias MustyXp) with his Gondor. Both of these players have managed to reach the top ten of the Quickmatch ladder with a respectable record. B3t3rw3l was the host (meaning less lag for him) which gave him an advantage in this game.

[replay]94618[/replay]

Isengard showed us some great micro- and macromangement and gained map control quite quickly. Gondor did not have much chance fighting back as this map seemed to have favored Isengard on host. Even when Gondor had the Elven Allies ability, there was not much they could do to regain map control or push Isengard back. Isengard went straight for the top right Outpost on this map and started to siege gondor with a load of Ballistas. The only thing Gondor could do was to sit back and spam Trebuchets, but even that did not work too well as Isengard had Fuel the Fires to push their economy up and make their army more powerful. It was basically what we call an "ownage game" in which Gondor did not have much of a chance to win throughout the game.

Isengard starting their siege on the Gondor base.

If you want to see a good Isengard performance then you may want to take a look at this game. Entertainment of this game was not too intensive but it had some good scenes that are worth the watch.

Discuss and download this replay

Check out more Replay of the Week replays

BfME News - Two Games Being Broadcasted This Weekend!

This weekend you will get to see two games broadcasted on BfME TV, so make sure you tune in and watch the action. One game will be a Gondor Mirror and the second game shows a Rohan versus Gondor match-up.

The first game is broadcasted on Saturday at 18:00 GMT. The people facing each other are BcVcB (our Game Admin) and Matas in a Gondor Mirror with quality, not the usual "fight till someone has Army of the Dead" ones. BcVcB will be broadcasting this game himself, which means that you get to see his perspective of the game and everything he does. Both of these players are well known and respective, so it is going to be quite intensive and entertaining.

The second game of the weekend will be between PayBack playing as Rohan versus Pallando's Gondor, on Sunday at 18:00 GMT. Payback is one of our two Rohan Strategy Specialists and Pallando is competitively fighting for the top 20 of the Quickmatch Ladder. They also both play their favorite army. So you will witness a game of class. Segway will be the broadcaster for this match.

You can check on how long it will be until those games are live by going to the BfME Portal and looking at the right column in which you see a countdown timer.

Go to BcVcB's BfME TV Channel

Go to Segway's BfME TV Channel
