1. General

1.1 - What exactly is Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs? Go to the top of the page

AoE3 TWC is an expansion pack to the best selling game, Age of Empires III, and will add new features, 3 new native civilisations, added content to the European civilisations and much more.



1.2 - When is it being released? Go to the top of the page

IGN and a number of other gaming websites have stated that the release dates will be on the 2nd of October in the US and the 13th of October internationally however these dates are subject to change.



1.3 - What are the 3 new civilisations? Go to the top of the page

The WarChiefs will include 3 new Native American civilisations; The Iroquois (defensive), the Sioux (aggressive and cavalry based), and the Aztecs (infantry based).



1.4 - What are the minimum PC requirements for Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs? Go to the top of the page

Ensemble Studios have said the minimum and reccomended PC requirements will stay relatively unchanged from the original Age of Empires III.

3. Gameplay

3.1 - Will there be new maps to play on in Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs (TWC)? Go to the top of the page

Yes. ES are adding plenty of new maps including 'Northwest Territory', 'California', 'Andes', and 'Painted Desert' with many more to be announced in the future.



3.2 - What is a WarChief and what is its purpose? Go to the top of the page

A WarChief will replace the European Explorer for all 3 Native American civilisations and will be much more useful than its European equivilent as well. The WarChief will have the ability to convert treasure guardians and each native civilisation's explorer will have a different bonus for the units surrounding the chief.



3.3 - What new content will there be for the existing European civilisations? Go to the top of the page

The European civilisations will recieve new upgrades, bonuses, and Home City shipments as well as the new 'Revolution' feature.



3.4 - What is happening to the current Age of Empires III minor civilisations - the Aztecs, the Iroquois, and the Lakota (Sioux)? Go to the top of the page

The Aztecs will be replaced by the Zapotecs, the Iroquois will be replaced by the Huron, and the Lakota will be replaced by the Cheyenne.



3.5 - What is a Firepit?  Go to the top of the page

The Firepit is a new building that is available to all 3 Native Civilisations. You can task Settlers on the firepit who will dance and provide a special bonus to the player, the more Settlers dancing means a larger bonus. You will be able to switch between numerous dances for different bonuses. You will be able to only build one Firepit. A confirmed dance is the Sioux's dance that makes all of their units have more seige damage.



3.6 - What is a Stealth unit / ability?  Go to the top of the page

Stealth makes certain units invisible to enemies on both the mini-map and the gameplay map. They become visible when they attack. Every civilisation have units that use the stealth ability.



3.7 - What is a War Hut?  Go to the top of the page

The War Hut is the native equivilent of the Russian Blockhouse. It trains infantry units and has a ranged attack. The build limit is 7. The War Hut however, does not have a population bonus of 5.


4. New Features

4.1 - What is this much talked about, 'Revolution' feature? Go to the top of the page

The Revolution is an alternative to the Imperial Age for all 8 European civilisations. When you want to revolt, you will be able to choose between 2 different revolutionaries (such as George Washington) that are dependant on the civilisation you are playing as. When you have revolted, all of your Settlers will become Minutemen (however their health will not decrease over time) and new shipments and technologies will become available to you such as the Iron Clad. If one player revolts, the other will not be able to revolt or advance to the Imperial Age.



4.2 - What is the new gameplay mode called 'Treaty Game'? Go to the top of the page

A treaty game is where both players have a pre-defined 'peace time' where no players can attack. This is essentially a 'no-rush' style of game.



4.3 - What is the new method to win a game titled 'Monopoly'? Go to the top of the page

The Monopoly mode will take effect when a player is in the Industrial Age or above and has more than half of the Trading Posts under control. When this is done a countdown will begin and unless your opponent destroys a Trading Post before that time you will win the game.


5. Multiplayer&ESOnline

5.1 - Will I loose all of my Age of Empires III Home Cities when I want to play The WarChiefs online? Go to the top of the page

No, definitely not. Your cards will be completely reset and you'll be able to choose a brand new set (so if you have a level 80 HC, you will be able to choose 80 cards).



5.2 - Will there be any new features and / or improvements to ESO when The WarChiefs is released? Go to the top of the page

In the last AoE3 patch, 1.08, Ensemble Studios are already preparing for the release of TWC with new features such as the 'Copy Deck' function as well as a new tab in your player stats for TWC as well as the original AoE3. A new user interface and other features have been confirmed by ES however we do not know details at this time.



5.3 - What level of developer support can we expect from Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs? Go to the top of the page

ES will continue its great level of support for TWC by releasing balance patches when needed and fixing bugs and ESO problems whenever they come up. Fans of AoE3 and / or AoM should be familiar with the level of support we will experience.


6. Singleplayer&Campaigns

There will be 2 acts comprising of 15 new campaigns in the final version of the expansion.



6.2 - What story and time period will the new campaigns be set in? Go to the top of the page

The first new TWC campaign will be set between AoE3's second and third act, the second will be set after AoE3's third act.



6.3 - Will the campaign continue the story of the Black family? Go to the top of the page

Yes. The first act of will be about Nathaniel Black (the son of Nohnakee and John Black) and the second will be about Nathaniel's grandson, Chayton Black.
