Did you think Pikemen had become useless because the cover mode bug was fixed? They are still very useful but just need some more micro! When sieging a building, there will usually be something that's trying to stop the pikes, and it will be a ranged attack in 99% of the cases. Set only the Pikeman that is under fire in cover mode so he takes much less damage. This will save you a lot of units! Works very well when sieging an Advanced Trading Post or a Town Center which, and also works very well with other units like Landsknects or Mayan Spearmen.
