Some allies players commit a common mistake (when using riflemen strat) of researching all upgrades before teching up, sometimes without thinking. BArs is 60 fuel, Grenades 40 and Stickies 25. All toghether, it´s almost everything you need for a fast tank depot.
So before researching think wisely if it´s really necessary in terms of adaptation to your enemy early game:
-If you see 2 MGs means that you most probably only need grenades even if he upgrades one volk with MG42 you can allways avoid it, or even match it with 2 riflemen. Use flanking procedures vs MGs. -If you see too many volks go BARs, or even try to skip it. -If you dont see almost no infantry units = fast Axis AC so wait a bit, make some mines in strategic points near base, and as soon as you see the first AC upgrade stickies.
Sometimes you´ll be able to upgrade just two (grenades and BARs, for instance), just one (grenades) or even none. All depends on your adaptation to his pressure (without losing map control), but if you manage to save fuel from this important upgrades you can easly get a much faster tech armor. If you manage to go directly to tank depot its a sure win most of the times.
However, if you face Sepha or any other decent player, stickies will not cut it vs ACs. They simply stay out of range and kite you to death.
Frankly, unless your plan is to go power riflemen (BAR, stickies and nades) into the Armor Doctrine to get Calliopes without needing fuel or a tank depot, getting those riflemen upgrades instead of doing a Halftrack or Sherman tech is very risky.

So, good tip!
If u are a decent player too, u can easily go BAR stickies and nades with airborne doctrine...u will need only 4 comm points till AT drops, that rocks and u have no need of fuel for making the motor pool...if u make the combination, its godlike
