I don't know, I think it happened because the battleship is so large and sluggish, the only land units I can think of like that are the experimental units, but I don't know if any of them would work. BTW, if you want to see the replay with this (so you can see how it happened), I posted it in Beta 1v1 Replays, just look for the only thread I've started (Its called "UEF vs. UEF")
Ever try CreateUnit from the console using a sea unit on land? Great hilarity ensues. The boats move around exactly as if they were on water. When you kill them they sink as if they were on water. They ignore physics and go up mountains and stuff .

(Actually it was making a wide turn out of the factory and aparently the game let it turn into the beach)
