It's official folks, one of the worst kept secrets in recent years was today out of the bag, StarCraft 2 is currently in production.

For many years, RTS fans around the globe have been anticipating this day, the Blizzard production team has an enormous weight of expectation on their shoulders. Afterall, Starcraft sold millions more copies than any other game in the genre.

Blizzard broke the news to international press at their World Wide Invitational event in Korea, the "home" of StarCraft culture.

Simultaneously, the Blizzard Website revealed the announcement in a Press Release

" Each race will be further distinguished from the others, with several new units and new gameplay mechanics, as well as new abilities for some of the classic StarCraft units that will be making a reappearance in the game."

IGN have been busy covering the event, and have already obtained several In Game ScreenShots

Above we see a very familiar interface which will no doubt take nothing away from this game.

As of yet, Blizzard are yet to announce any release date, but the wide assumption is that Starcraft 2 will be set for a 2008 release.

If any game got epic expectations, this is it. The followup to the best RTS ever made.....I can definetly say that Relic, EA, Petroglyph and other RTS makers need to do their absolutely best if they even want attention now.....

Funny how I heard rumors about 5 years ago that starcraft II was coming out in 2008. I guess sometimes they are spot on. It's certainly nice to see this verified though, and the graphics sure have improve a lot.
