first topic lol Ok, imo, I think the pros will try SC2 (obviously) but unless the macro is balanced out so it's not just ez mode, most will prob stick with SC1...unless huge SC2 money tourneys and such pop up. I think war3 pros might be more likely to switch to sc2 tho.
And as for pro leagues/tourneys in north america, it might be possible with SC2 since it has the background for it, and many more people will be interested this time around. So hopefully sc2 can spark lots of stuff in North America/europe too.
Well, although South Korea has E-Sports big, SC2 will lilkely spark it worldwide, so it doesn't matter much whether or not sc1 pros come over to play sc2 competitively.

Yeh, that is true. Can only hope it gets big everywhere.
A big factor of this will most likely be whether Blizz put effort in worldwide as well. When the game began Boxer put a lot of effort in off his own back to get the game started, but with the world as big as it is it'l ltake a hardcore effort - Blizz will have to promote everywhere and I think they will if the WoW ads have been any indication of how big they want their game to be. Mr. T ftw.
Nope.. players go where the money goes. counter-strike 1.6 to counter-strike:source is proof of that. No more pro cs 1.6 scene now that cs:s is the game that actually offers pro careers.

I think e-sports going as big internationally as it is in Korea is going to harder than just a great game everyone world-wide loves to play since in a lot of countries gaming is still not taken as seriously as a sport or competitive scene like it is in Korea. There just isn't the same mindset that the Koreans have with e-sports. I mean they have full blown like rock concerts of Starcraft matches with many people cheering on and feeling tenison like we do at a football or soccer game. I just think it will take a little more than a great e-sport game to get to that level.

True, but Starcraft 2 will atleast take us one step closer to that level.
I think that Starcraft 1 will still mostly be played in Korea competitively right after launch of SC2...
but around the rest of the Globe SC2 will totally take off as the next big E-Sport. SC1 could have been big in the US, but it was all timing... Korean officials visiting around that time wanted to bring back something to their country that was about to be the booming broadband king. (Asia was also coming off the end of their financial crisis)
Back here at the stats SC gamers were having to deal with modem lag, and once Broadband really took off here, Counter-Strike was getting big. Thus this is one of the reasons imo, FPS games have dominated esports in the US.
wow! thx for that insight! that's a logical explanation! and yes, I agree, I think this will change with SC 2, but see the other threads... where there's the same discussion...
