Welcome to the 55th Tip of the Week on USA Upgrades. This weeks tip was written by our Strategy Specialist, WarCrimes!
There are four places where you can purchase USA upgrades: The barracks (Rax), Warfactory (Wf), Air field (Af), & the Strategy Centre .
The majority of USA upgrades can be purchased from the Strategy Centre here is a detailed list of what can be purchased with a little description of when/if you should purchase them.
Advanced Training - $1500
Advanced Training is a very useful upgrade that can be purchased from the Strategy Centre, the upgrade doubles the speed of unit promotion. This upgrade seems rather expensive to me but it is well worth it providing you have a decent late game economy with plenty of units. This upgrade could keep your units alive as early veterancy will give them more health, armour, and later auto-healing.
Drone Armour - $500
For $500 you can equip your drones with Drone Armour, its not a commonly used upgrade but well worth purchasing if you have the money.
Composite Armour - $2000
I'm a big fan of this upgrade. I regularly buy it when I am Laser and spamming Laser Crusaders especially vs a China player (Nuke/Tank). I would suggest buying this upgrade if you don't feel like laming Vees. Missile Defenders, Avengers and Tanks (with Composite Armour) is a great way to play USA this unfortunately isn't used often on 1.04 as Vees kick the **** out of everything
Chemical Suits - $1000
The chemical suits upgrade can be purchased at the Strategy Centre. This upgrade only affects USA infantry and is very effective at resisting Toxins, although the chemical. I would suggest buying this brilliant upgrade only if you are facing Nuke or Toxin it really isn't worth it vs any other army unless GLA has Toxin Shells upgrade but this rarely happens
Mother of all bombs - $4000
The MOAB (Massive Ordnance Air Burst) can destroy several tanks and buildings, this can be purchased at the Strategy Centre for $4000 after you reach level 5 in your general promotions. I like to call it money well spent But only if you have the money
supply lines - $800
A modern army can be stopped if the supply lines are cut or delayed, the Supply Lines upgrade increases the productivity of your Chinooks which keep the supplies coming in. Available at the Strategy Centre for $800, it adds 10% to your Chinooks collection as well as increasing your Supply Drop Zone's income by a further 10% well worth the $800 investment. This upgrade also affects captured oil derricks. This is Probably Usa's most important upgrade available at the Strat Center so i would suggest you buy this as soon as you select your preferred Strategy (as soon as your Start Center is built)
There are also 3 different plans you can select after building your Strategy Centre they are Search & Destroy , Hold the line, & Bombardment
Search & Destroy
Search & Destroy (SnD) is the most effective and popular choice in strategy as it gives your units a massive 20% increase infiring range, giving you a much better chance of keeping your units alive for longer. This strategy makes USA pretty unstoppable vs a pre-tech GLA or China with out BN MiGs. This should be your most used option at the Strategy Centre.
Hold the Line
Hold the Line gives your units a 10% armour bonus, this is best used when you are Airforce and you build nothing but air units. It also erects sandbags around the Strategy Centre which protect it from attack. If you hear an artillery barrage always put yourself on HTL as it will probably save your Strategy Centre.
Bombardment
Bombardment gives you a 20% fire-power bonus as well as a cannon on your Strategy Centre making it a great defensive structure that can do a lot of damage to your enemy if you are under attack. I would suggest switching to this if your base is being overrun as it will automatically target any enemy units with in its range. This is also a good strategy to use if you are spamming Towvees.
The Barracks
Flash Bangs - $600
Flash Bangs is an upgrade that enable your Rangers to clear enemy buildings, as well as making your rangers very strong vs infantry. This upgrade should be purchased vs Infantry general and in some USA mirrors. It also works very well vs a GLA who tunnel spams and has 20+ RPG.
The next place where you can purchase your upgrades is the War Factory (Wf)
Tow Missile - $800
This is a great upgrade that is used as often as tunnels in ZH, I tend to buy 3/5 vees before purchasing this upgrade as it takes a while to research and you need a few vees to defend or attack with at the start. Some players even do a strategy which is called Towvee spam. This is when you build 2 War Factory's and spam empty Vee's with Hellfire Drones and the Tow Missile upgrade. Tow missile really makes light work of infantry as well as buildings if you have enough Vees.
Sentry Drone upgrade - $1000
The sentry drone upgrade can be purchased from any USA Wf, when the drone is equipped with the 20mm gun it will automatically shoot enemy infantry and tanks. This upgrade also has the special ability to detect stealthed units, this can be helpful sometimes if you are not paying attention to your base. Unless your actually making use of a useless unit (Sentry Drones) then don't bother with this upgrade.
The Fourth place to buy these important upgrades is the Air Field (Af)
Stealth Comanches - $1500
This is a unique upgrade for Air Force only.
This upgrade makes your Comanches stealthed If you are AFG and you decide to build Comanches then you Must buy this upgrade. If I'm playing against a GLA I tend to get this upgrade after my first couple Comanches are out (To hunt workers)
Bunker Busters - $1500
Wow this upgrade really can be a lot of fun to use, it isn't used any where near as much I would like as its very underrated I feel, this upgrade clears units from buildings and most importantly Tunnels, a great way to use this upgrade is on a Tunnel network instantly followed by an Aurora (Alpha would be better) as it will kill the majority of the GLA units as they get thrown out of the tunnel however you have to time this attack to perfection.
Countermeasures - $1000
This upgrade is used to protect all your USA air units against enemy projectiles and can be purchased at the Af. With the cost of $1000 in my opinion its and upgrade that is a must. Especially when you are using Comanches to deal with GLA RPGs or China THs. Also if you are using Auroras or Raptors, this upgrade helps tp evade 50% of missiles fired at them.
Laser missiles - $1500
I would say another must get upgrade, this can be purchased at the AF of any USA and it gives very reasonable +25% damage to Raptors and Stealth Fighters (12.5% for AFG). Just to give an example of how good this upgrade is, when using KR (King Raptors) if you buy this upgrade you just need one KR to kill an Vee instead of 2
Rocket Pods - $800
This upgrade is essential to USA Comanches, for $800 your Comanches will be available to fire a rocket barrage, when you use multiple Comanches it's a powerful attack. Firing just in front of a tunnel network is a good idea because if your opponent is stupid enough to "pop' he will lose all his/her units as long as you are attacking with 5 or more Comanches. Buy this upgrade if you are building any number of Comanches!
All 3 USA factions also have the opportunity to buy the power upgrade this is called Control rods how ever SWG has Advanced Control rods which I will explain later.
Power upgrade - $500
Causing low power in a game can be very frustrating and this can even lose you the game, how many times have you drooped some one and forgot to buy the power upgrade culminating in low power and an easy Pat for your enemy to kill? I always buy Advanced Control Rods if I am SWG because you get so much power for your money.
How ever I try to stay away from buying Control Rods for any other USA General until mid game, I prefer to build a second power plant as $1300 and all you eggs in one basket is a risky thing to do from my experience as 2 Terrorists or a Dragon Tank can make quick work of your power and if you have laser Tanks all over the map you could be in a lot of trouble Try building a second power plant as soon as you go into yellow power health instead of buying the Control rods, it also helps because the research time for control longs is longer than it is to build a second reactor.
After
SWG power increase
This is well worth the money and should be purchased at the start if you are going to build 2 Supplys and a War Factory, you wont have to worry about low power until you tech up or build a few EMPs
The final Upgrades USA has are available at most vehicles which are: The Hellfire Drone, Scout Drone and Battle Drone.
These 3 upgrades can be purchased to increase the strength of your units they can be rather expensive though so be careful, make sure you have enough units before equipping them with these upgrades.
Battle drone - $300. Fires a small machine gun and repairs it parent vehicle, weak vs everything. This upgrade is great when you get an early Vee out to harass a china or GLA as it will heal your Vee.
Hellfire Drone - $500. Fires a Hellfire missile Strong vs Vehicles, fairly weak vs infantry. This upgrade makes your units a lot stronger how ever you will need an ambulance with them or they wont be able to heal as a unit is only allowed one upgrade. This is most commonly used when you have a group of vees and 1/2 ambulances and some excess cash. This is also useful if you have an empty Vee harassing as it helps to destroy Dozers.
Scout Drone - $100. This upgrade extends your sight range as well as revealing stealthed units, I normally give at lease one of my group of Vees this upgrade as it can help you find GLA demo traps or enemy heroes. When using your Vees you should just drone all of them as the Drone distracts enemy units such as quads so they are fired on instead of the Vees.

Sentry Drones can detect without gun. Plus they have good armour vs Small arms making them really effective vs stealth.
Sentries suck vs Stealth, except maybe for keeping a Sentry and Humvee near a Dozer to protect it from Hijackers, but you can't afford to do this against a good GLA.
Nice guide, just need to point out that Flashbangs are $800, and you should always get Supply Lines first.

Can you please think about others who are reading these forums, when you type that drivel?
I just noticed that WC said hellfires are fairly weak against infantry. They're damn good against infantry, rather like TOWs. Two or three shots would take a soldier down.
I always had problems getting my hellfire drones to fire at the enemy when I want them too. I don't use them often unless I go for towvee spam.

MOAB is much more powerful than the particle cannon buddy. The blast radius kills just about every tank and kills all infantry uints instantly. The particle cannon is better used against buildings though. You will know when a sw is going to be used, but a MOAB can surprise you.
