Hey. This is a instcruction about how to easily get .sga maps working online, using the CoH-Launcher, developed by Mannerheim et al. It provides a very easy solution to play online without restrictions.
Like you may know, it is not possible to simply start online games with maps in the .sga format using the general Company of Heroes shortcut. This feature is gone since the release of Opposing Fronts. Until now it was only possible to play .sga maps online, when you did modify your RelicCoH.module before, which carried problems like patching-incompatibility. This little tool helps you getting things working without these restrictions AND it is very easy to use.
Step 1: Download the CoH-Launcher HERE (v2.4 updated 31.march 2009) Step 2: Save the "CoHLauncher.exe" within your Company of Heroes installation folder. This is normaly "C:\Programm Files\THQ\Company of Heroes".
Step 3:(optional) Create a short-cut to the CoH-Launcher on your deskop. For this right-click on the CoHLauncher.exe and then use "Send to/Desktop"
Step 4: Download the map(s) you want to play in .sga format. Save them whereever you want to, but preferable under "...\my documents\my games\Company of Heroes\WW2\Scenarios"
Step 5: Open the CoH-Launcher, then hit "Add a new map". A new window pops up, where you should browse to your saved .sga map. Select it and hit open.
Step 6: The map(s) should now show up in the list. You only need to add those maps once. They will show up again at the next start. Once you have added all maps you want, start CoH using the "Start the game"-button. For some odd reason it does first work after the second start of CoH-Launcher, but only for the first time you use it.
Step 7: Open and host a game, just like you do with the regular map content. Have Fun...
I'm curious to know what may have occurred to prevent custom maps from showing in my skirmishes or multiplayer match lists. They were all there before and I've played them numerous times but for some reason they are not presented as map options in the game any longer.
I have verified that all maps are in the maps folder under coh directory and that none are in the my documents path as it was before.
Odd stuff. If everything is set up right, then there is nothing that i can think of. CoHLauncher in the same folder as RelicCoH.module ? ... Only thing i can suggest you is to follow the link to mannerheims thread and look if there is anybody having the same problem as you. You can also find newer versions of the launcher there, maybe that works...
The launcher is 1.5 and as I said the maps did show up and work before. Even a system restore to the previous day before I downloaded a few new maps did not work. Those maps still showed up. I'm trying to avoid the long process of reinstalling OF and the patching.
I've deleted the launcher and redownloaded as well to no effect.
I'll keep looking but if you have any ideas I'm all ears.
BTW...some of the maps I installed were from Henry666 map packs that had an executable. I've also avoided non-sga files as well.

Think I may have found the problem. Turns out that one of the .sga maps that I used....or several that were compiled into one .sga format made by PANZERsomethingorotherMapPack.
This is what was causing my problems. What I did was move the maps folder to my desktop. Deleted COH Launcher then redownloaded and installed. Then followed the steps for adding the maps. Everything is working fine now.
Currently I have the latest launcher 2.4 and the latest Patches for COH and have played the regular maps fine. But when I play custom maps, once I load in and when I am about to start playing the game I crash. This has only occurred with custom maps.
I have tried changing my video settings and re downloading the maps but that has not worked.
the new patch gave troubles, but maybe watch the original thread that is linked at the bottom of post one. The creator is currently fixing those problems....
I'm having some troubles playing custom maps since 2.400 went live. The thing is my maps are still in the folder, I loaded them in the CoHlauncher but i'm unable to play them since they dont show up in the maplist when starting up a game. Some tips would be greatly appriciated
the 2.501 patch made it so i can play .sga maps at all, it wont load into the launcher gettin weird errors, also when i actually get to play the .sgb in skirmish i cant play the left side of any doctrine for any faction. weird help? pm me
Why Relic can't get their shit right and support community maps the proper way is beyond me, they've had 3 years time to do so and they still haven't fucking pulled it off. Quite the contrary, the WB is more broken than ever and .sgas barely work again.
Does this work with all the new tales of valor patches and everything.
-Chpappa?
It seems like it doesn't work at all anymore. But it doesn't have to, because with ToV you can simply put your .sga maps into "...Documents\My Games\Company of Heroes\WW2\Scenarios" and they work fine in multiplayer as in singleplayer....
That isn't quite true - some SGA maps work in the My Documents folder, but I have put a load in there and for some reason most of them don't show up in game.

Those, who don't show up, haven't been resaved with the current worldbuilder 2.600. For some maps it is necessary, others work, even though they are saved with older worldbuilder versions...
I just can't get the worldbuilder to work at all - it won't load sga maps as it doesn't recognise the format and any attempt to load sgb maps ends with an error "can't load file xxxx.sgb as it is outside of all known mods".
Any ideas?

that error message means, that you have saved the .sgb files in the wrong direction. you need at least the .sgb and the .info file. They belong to "My Documents/My Games/Company of Heroes/WW2/Data/Scenarios/MP"
Nope, that isn't it. Both those files are in the correct place and I am still getting the error. I have tried putting the map files within their own folder and directly in the MP folder in the CoH game root folder, I have tried copying them all to the My Documents\My Games\Company of Heroes\ .... folders (creating the Data\Scenarios\MP folders because they didn't exist) and I still game the same error all the time.
