Relic is very communicative about Dawn of War 2, not only do they have an Official DoW II Community Blog, an Official DoW II Twitter Feed and an Official DoW II Facebook Page but they also post on several forums (including this one) to cool down/hype up their fans. This thread humbly tries to give an overview of select developer quotes and search links. Many of their statements are probably not always official and it might be dangerous to take them out of context but they could be indicative of what to expect in the coming months. The developers do post quite a lot of juicy tidbits which you won't always read about in press releases or on the blog. Thanks to everyone who spots new and interesting information.

[ I did a clean sweep of some older posts and links as this first post was getting full again ]

- [02/16/2010] The blog now features the expected look at the third unit tier of Chaos: the Chaos Predator and Great Unclean One look impressive.
- [02/16/2010] Steam now allows you to pre-order the digital version of Chaos Rising (and you currently get Saints Row II for free as well), the price isn't the normal 35 € which previous Relic addons would have cost.
- [02/11/2010] Croak says singleplayer missions are tougher, longer, more well-paced and more varied now.
- [02/11/2010] The community blog has info on the Chaos Lord hero for multiplayer/skirmish. He definitely sounds powerful.
- [02/10/2010] After it was offline for a day the community blog now details the entire Tier 2 of the Chaos faction: Chaos Bloodletters, Chaos Dreadnought, Chaos Bloodcrusher and Chaos Plague Marines all sound pretty badass.
- [02/08/2010] Several new CR previews have popped up this weekend: G4TV has a preview, Worthplaying has an interview with Relic's Jeff Lydell and Destructoid previews CR. There is also more video footage from the Asian Taipei game show; Great Unclean One battle footage, extensive 5 minutes Chaos skirmish/multiplayer footage, awesome loading screen as well as new main menu.
- [02/05/2010] TASK3R states there is no different popcap method in FFA games.
- [02/05/2010] EgonSpengler clarifies some assumed imbas and mixups in the Gamespot preview.
- [02/05/2010] GameTrailers has even more CR movies: a multiplayer gameplay flick, a video interview with Relic's producer Jeff Lydell, a video interview with Relic's multiplayer designer Josh Long and singleplayer campaign footage. IGN also has a unit video montage. All must-sees.
- [02/05/2010] A new Chaos Rising trailer is now online, featuring new footage (in-game and prerendered), especially eye-catching is the Great Unclean One.
- [02/04/2010] Gamespot features a very detailed multiplayer preview of Chaos Rising, same counts for IGN. Free-For-All and 2vs2vs2 modes, and the Chaos heroes (Chaos Lord, the Plague Champion and the Chaos Sorcerer) are revealed. The way the Chaos shrines work are also being described.
- [02/02/2010] The entire Tier 1 unit roster for the new Chaos faction is displayed and discussed on the blog now. Chaos Heretics, Chaos Space Marines and Chaos Havocs are mentioned as well as are three Chaos gods (Khorne, Nurgle and Tzeentch) which will give different bonuses to the Chaos Heroes during the game.
- [02/02/2010] TASK3R says only Heretic Champions, and not CSM champions, will be able to detect infiltrated units.
- [01/30/2010] A fan has discovered the entire Chaos tech tree, his source is a French gaming magazine. This list seems to be true if you look at the official revelations so far.
- [01/29/2010] The blog reveals one of two new Last Stand heroes, this is Hive Tyrant (other one yet to be highlighted is the Chaos Sorceror).
- [01/13/2010] TASK3R says all races got smaller balance tweaks so that they wouldn't all play out the same and so that everything fits together once Chaos Rising and the DoW II vanilla mega-patch come out at the same time.
- [01/05/2010 till 01/26/2010] Relic has revealed all new multiplayer units for the existing races: Librarian for the SM, Tyrant Guard and Genestealer Brood for the Tyranids (the Tyrant Guard replaces the Tier 2 version of the Carnifex), Wraithguard for the Eldar and Weirdboy for the Orks. These are all units and not new commanders. Anyone who has DoW II will get these for free through a mega-patch (which will also include the new maps and new game modes) so everyone will still be able to play together. - [11/9/2009] GameReplays have an interview with Relic Developer Jeff Lydell (aka EgonSpengler) about Chaos Rising [ some very interesting infobits here, new multiplayer units for existing races will be added to standard DoW II as well, just like vehicle wrecks and a move/ranged stance, seems like Relic really does want to keep the community together ]

Relic has also revealed more about The Last Stand's heroes: Space Marine Captain, Eldar Farseer and Ork Mekboy. Great idea to compile dev posts.

Have they made any comments about balance?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, I can't help but remember that they promised the space bar thing (among others) for the 0 day patch. I wonder how long it'll take to implement all these things...

space bar is working now. it's just that attack warnings aren't included as event queues yet.

Humble bump since I've updated the original post with info coming from the Penny Arcade forum (remembered Relic peeps were posting there too), especially Croak gave some nice info (just today, total coincidence smile.gif ); seems like the code patch will be out early April (ai post-13661-1143531603.gif , though other devs have said this before apparently) but he'll explain more things about it tomorrow perhaps.

The other devs have gone silent since last week, the fact the patch seems to be at least two weeks off might explain that.

I'd sticky this if someone comitted to keeping it updated, otherwise it'll become irrelevant too quickly post-13661-1143531603.gif

Sure, I'll keep it updated if you want, I just put in some renewed links for the PA posts, old ones didn't work apparently. Though there are a lot of stickied threads already... smile.gif
If some quoted posts become useless (because of a code patch that does what is promised) then I'll remove the quotes to keep things clean.

At least they don't claim to be perfect laugh.gif

In all seriousness though a monthly patch is more love than most games get.

Yup but they're basically saying the same (except 'soon' is now 'very soon' smile.gif ) as before it seems, TASK3R also promised that Relic still has a lot in store for DoW II players.

But I've updated the main post with the map feedback stuff and TASK3R's reply that Relic is aware of map imbalances, those two sound like new subjects at least.

Yeah, but they're not only looking at the votes, I've put new comments from the devs in the main post about how they want their feedback.

Also, that new podcast interview with one of the devs delivered some interesting answers, I've listed the most interesting quotes from that in the main post as well.

That sounds nice so we will have a patch in lets say 2 weeks? smile.gif I wonder what they fixed there.

We have one smaller patch that will be out in the next few weeks (it's at GFWL cert), and a bigger one coming relatively soon after that (we're putting the final touches on it internally).

The first patch addresses some major issues (code-fix for the pop-cap bug, the colour hack, improved matchmaking to name a few). The larger patch contains many fixes, improvements, and new features and content.

More details soon.

Nice catch, I've added it to the first post. At this rate I am gonna hit the text limit pretty fast though. Hopefully the patches arrive soon so I can remove some quotes. smile.gif
