Note: Submission is officially closed. Thanks to all who submitted. You will be receiving a pm in the next few days just as conformation that the map is submitted correctly and ready to judge. Judging will take place over the next few days here at GR till final submissions are sent to Relic. Judging will take how ever long it takes but I dont see it being longer than a week to a week and a half to judge. Once again thanks for the submissions and the hard work that you guys put through.

Welcome, Dawn of War 2 fans, to the first Community Map Creation Contest! If you love slaving away long and hard to try and create the most killer map, here's your chance for your map to be made Official. That's right, the Winner's work will be placed in the game as an official map one of Relic's future patches! 'How do I sign up', you may ask? Well, its simple. Create a Gamereplays.org account, if you haven't already (Click Here to create one now). Then just follow the instructions below. Good Luck and Enjoy!

When it starts
The competition will start on August 14, 2009 and submissions will be taken up until midnight, August 30, 2009, CST (GMT -5). Judging will commence soon after. How many accepted map entries there are will determine how long judging will take. More maps will equal more time, so please be patient.

The Rules
  • 1v1 Maps only
  • Entrants must be 18 years of age or older
  • Size of the map needs to be maximum 256x256 playable area, although smaller and varying lengths/widths are fine, and that the terrain width should be 175% of its size. Meaning there would be a border of unplayable area around the map that would need to be beautified.
  • Maps must be created for the current version of Dawn of War 2
  • Maps must be designed for multiplayer/skirmish only.
  • You must post using the format given below. This is not a discussion thread.
  • If you need your map to be tested before you submit it you can post it at GR Custom Map Showcase or at the Dawn of War 2 Official Forums
  • Final versions only. The map must be functional once it's submitted.
  • Advanced scripting/triggering systems are not allowed
  • Each entrant can submit only one map. However, you can change the map you wish to be submitted before the indicated deadline.(How to do this correctly is explained below)
  • Maps must be made from start to finish, and must not be available or have early versions available in public places, nor have screenshots revealed in public forums and sites.
  • The maps must be original. That is to say, remakes of previous Dawn of War maps or those of other titles are not permitted.
  • Any unit and faction changes in the map file itself must be minuscule and non-gameplay affecting, e.g. renaming civilian/garrisonable buildings.
  • You must post one mini-map and between two to five in game/on map screenshots(more info about this below)
  • You must provide a link in your post as to where you can download the map. Screenshots are not needed in your download but a readme – either in .txt or .doc format - needs to be provided, giving the name of the map, the designer, and any special thanks to or anyone who helped you balance etc. your map.
Disclaimer - Relic® reserves the right to not select a winner if there are insufficient entries. All maps submitted to this contest are property of Relic® as per the EULA in Dawn of War II™.

Judging
To get a better idea on how your map will be judged, here is a look at how points will be distributed.
Out of 100 Points

- (20points) Original Concept:
  • Make the map your own
  • Realistic environments will get more points than maps that are arbitrarily symmetrical.
- (30 points) Balance:
  • Resource Rates, capture points, cover, garrison able buildings (if any)
  • Map position with players. Make sure one player position isn't better than the other.
- (25 Points) Eye-candy:
  • Lighting, textures etc.
  • Map errors, cliff errors or other terrain related bugs need to be kept at a minimum.
  • Be Creative!
- (25 points) Fun-Factor:
  • Re-playability, game speed, etc.
There will also be two stages of the judging process.
First Stage:
The 20 maps that get the highest score will be sent to Relic
Second Stage:
Relic then chooses the winner (1) and Honorary mentions (2) from that group

The Judges
TASK3R and Thunder (Relic® Developers), along with other Relic® Employees
Raaar
BlaqK
God_Aries

Posting Format
The following information is the correct way to post information about your map, screenshots and links. To create a screenshot simply hit 'print screen' while in game. Your screens will save to MyDocuments/MyGames/DawnofWar2/screenshots folder. To add them into your post, scroll down until you see "File Attachments" and click "Browse", click on your picture and hit 'ok', then hit "Add this Attachment". After you have all of your pictures added, make sure you click "Add into post", so that they are in your post for all to see. For the Mini Map simply print screen and use Microsoft Paint or any other Photoshop utility to isolate the map and save as a .jpg similar image file. Posting it will be the same as for your screenshots. As mentioned above, you are able to change your final submitted map, provided it is before the indicated deadline. Do not create another post for your new map. Simply edit your first with a special note in the beginning (shown in the example below)

Special note: I have changed my map from "Crazy Town" to "Calderis Refinery". (This doesn't need to be in italics)

Name: Calderis Refinery
Creator: g0dAri3s
Link: (Fileplanet, or any other file sharing sites. You can also create a zip file and add it as an attachment though GR just like you would add a screenshot, explained above. Remember to have the readme.txt or readme.doc file!

Prizes
First Place(1) will be included in a future patch for Dawn of War II and will be shoutcasted and Front paged to show off your map.
Honorary Mentions(2) will have their map shoutcasted and Front paged as well as links to download your map.

Special Notes
All forum rules related to this site still apply to this competition. Failure to follow these rules can lead to disqualification from the competition. Cheating, taking others' work, or any further accusations will be handled internally. Please, do not accuse people on the forums. Send me a email or PM explaining the problem and it will be dealt with. Once judging is completed, all decisions are final. When the judging starts, please be patient. The length of time it takes to judge will be determined by how many submissions are made. An announcement will be posted when judging has been completed and the winners will be announced shortly after. After the winners are announced, anyone who submitted a map will get a pm showing you what points each of the judges gave you, their likes and dislikes about the map, and any special notes and constructive feedback to help you improve on your design, or to keep in mind for the next map you create. Above all have fun and enjoy the competition.

Contact
If you need any clarification, questions, comments, please email me at dow2mapcontest@gmail.com. You can also PM me but I will reply to emails faster. Once again Good Luck to all of you!

Looks like I'm the first one ;3
So what is Area 42 you may ask? Deep beneath the ground in the mountain lies a secret base. Now you're thinking 'so what there is already a Area 51'. But unlike that pfft A51, A42 is actually interesting. Who cares about those uggly green aliens when A42 holds the "Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything". Yeah chew on that ;)

This is a two player map with 6 requisition points, 2 power nodes and 3 victory points. The map is quite balanced on either side and your units can be strategically garrisoned to defend your positions. In this map I have tried to overcome the difficulties inherent to highmap-editing so that you can micro manage your units inside of buildings. This is only for the eye, but I've tested all in-building positions and I am quite pleased with the result.

To make this map I've drawn upon the actual GW boardgame, so I've been trying to avoid a symetrical look in it. I like maps where you battle your positions through rubble and where there is plenty of places to duck and cover. The map has some sort of gloomy look in it, but on the other side of things this is pretty much what I intended to do.

Edit: (22nd August 2009)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've updated this map to version 1.0.1 and included new picks. My objective was to include new features in it (such as smokes and fires), revisit all chokepoints, re-edit all impass areas and add more requisition and victory points (it all adds up to 10 req. 4 vic. and 2 pow now). In this new version I've made sure you will find it hard to advance with your troops but easy to stay put in your posts. This does not necessarily mean the map is easy to play, but just that if you let your enemey break your frontlines and get through, you can pretty much expect all hell to break loose. You will also find both a good deal of unusual defending positions and an indecent amount of "rubble" (this map is called (2p)_Rubble for a reason) for duck and cover. I hope you will enjoy it.

Smeckma

Edit (31st August 2009)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In this new version (1.0.2) I've revisited all fires and FX's, and polished some areas of the map. The req. point's distribution has been changed as well to 3 power nodes, 3 vic. points and 11 req. points. You'll find this map is a little bit expensive in terms of FX's, so you'll need to set up your graphic settings to either "high" or "ultra" in order to be able to get them in-game. You can download here: FileFront

Deep within the dangerous jungles of Fedrid a rich deposit of Kapsicum was desovered. One hundred and twenty people set off to harvest this precious crop, well aware of the risk from the predators of this harsh world. Things were going well, until an catastrophic accident in the 3rd power relay caused the perimerter defences along with the communications tower to fail. When the next transport arrived for its bi-monthly collection only 13 people had survived. Since then the planatory government have declared the site off limits, unable to find any soul willing to risk the same fate.

This map was born with the idea to create the ideal game conditions, similar as much as possible to relic maps' style.

1)The map was tested by players with 30+ TS using all the races and all the heroes available (till 20 games per hero).

2)The map was modified everytime we found an important imbalance.

3)The map was also tested to guarantee the best performances on every PC, even on low end computers.

Gameplay:
The main objective was to offer a gameplay as much as possible compatible with relic point of view, without giving to players the chance to camper or closing too easily the match.
The size of the map guarantees easy reentries in battle without dead times, but at the same time the purpose is allowing players to be able to change forehead to the necessity.

In the various tests that were done we had very good games, especially among the pros of the clan, fighting all over the playable area with no dead zones.
Besides a lot of importance has been given also to the movement and the path of vehicles and infantry trying not to hinder it in any way, checking that they don't get jammed and that they always find a good way of escape.

All the buildings of the map cannot be abused at the start of the game to cover and harrass enemy points, because there are walls behind these buildings that prevent troops to fire on those points, giving them (the buildings) the only (early game) objective to give a good cover to ranged units in case of melee attacks...
In the middle game these walls can be easily destroyed thanks to ASM, light vehicles & heavy vehicles, turning such buildings into a good assault positions.

The map is still in phase of test, trying to improve it every day untill 30th August.

I hope you will like it.

I still have to work on the waterfall, but thought I'd post it up now since its almost fully complete. Balance-wise its finished, graphic-wise there are still somethings I am working on. Gameplay-wise you'll be surprised, its a smaller map with many different strats and allows players to harness the full use of the various units and armies at their disposale. Don't be fooled by the value of the island. It tends to get players to waste time and resources early on that your opponent will capitilize on if he knows what he is doing. Yes it is great if you can grab it, but there are more important things you could be doing.

This map features a large (but within limits!) scarred battlefield located at the top of a volcano.
Both players have the exact same distance from their bases to their respective resource and vic points, to preserve perfect balance of the map. Cover is plentiful and varied, and there are a medium amount of buildings spread accross the map. This maps has been tested by skilled players ( in the ts 30 zone) and is perfectly balanced. The layout of the map forces the players to spread out their units in order to maintain map control, which poses the dilemma of wether to gather your forces to win single engagements, or to spread out and get mapcontrol. It rewards good use of transportation like teleport and jump units, but also transport vehicles, which for the most part is used for firepower only in 1 v 1 games, but now become more importent as means to increase mobility of your army.

Any Feedback, questions, suggestions or comments should be sent to me in a PM or preferrably to:
torgeirx@gmail.com

Additional info is included in the readme file.

Hope you all appriciate the map, and have fun!

The Jungle Ruins map was created around the idea of players holding strong, defensible positions located around the Victory Points. This idea would force players to either use a lot of units to guard their points or have to partake in large assaults to capture the VP. This coupled with the several chokepoints and plenty of cover makes for some intense game play and what makes Jungle Ruins a bit more unique.

I hope you have fun with the map

MAP NAME - Plaza Primarus
VERSION - 1.2 (Third Release)
AUTHOR - ValKor01
MAP THREAD - Here

Screenshots Updated to show V1.1

CHANGES FOR V1.2
__________________________________________________________

-Removed objects and splats to Improve performance.

The map is virtually identical to v1.1, only difference should be in performance. So I wont be updating screenshots as they still show the map as it is.

CHANGES FOR V1.1
__________________________________________________________

-Took steps to remove possible exploiting on VP's near Player bases.

-Attempted to improve the visual effect of the snow and also improve the ruined buildings.

-Added some new lighting

-Attempted to remove some splats and objects to Improve performance, I could do more, I know theres some stray objects and splats around but with the closing date fast approaching I dont want to risk missing it. After the competition, if this map has not won (I cant believe anyone would be confident of winning and I am certainly assuming I will not), I will spend some time going over it and try to improve performance further.

ABOUT THE MAP
__________________________________________________________

Ok, I will keep this short, if you want the long version you can follow the link to my map thread (above) which has a massive wall of text for all you novel lovers out there along with more screenshots than im posting here. I took in details of the more popular 1v1 maps and tried to keep things as simple as possible while maintaining a level of complexity to keep the players entertained and leave the players with plenty of choices, I hope ive achieved this. I wanted a city style map with a similar urban wreckage setting like I created with Kasyr lutien. I like the idea of having players fighting in what remains of a destroyed building. From the start I wanted to make a plaza or city square outside of a Govenors mansion, because of this I knew I would have quite a task in trying to eliminate too much of the symmetry that was going to be the starting point for my map. I hope that by placing down objects, splats and splines in random or deliberatley different locations has managed to pull this off. However there was some that I really did want to be fairly Symmetrical, mainly because it seems to me that an area like this normally has a deliberate touch of symmetry to try and Beautify the location so I was really trying to strike a perfect balance of symmetry mixed with the randomness of urban combat.

I have experimented with a mild snow like city setting in a, as yet, unreleased 3v3 map, I was pretty happy with the result and decided id take the risk and make it a large part of my competition entry.

Anyway I think thats enough for this post in the submissions section, if you want more indepth details on what my thinking was for this map, as stated before, you can check the thread dedicated to this map by following the link at the top of this post. Its lucky im not superstitious... being the 13th entry and all that. ;-)

I hope you all enjoy the map!

(2p) Ile Dostoya

Creator: Junk Angel

Flavour text:Once an unimportant island in the Tamrin ocean, Ile Dostaya has changed into a ravaged battlefield as the great devourer eyes it viciously.

A quick and dirty map, intended for the GR|Relic map making competition. Ile Dostoya is a 224x256 sized map with a strong focus on holding the center part of the island. Where two slag deposits and a VP point lie. Yet   the remaining two Vp's as well as all req points tend to lie on the outer edges.

Installation: Put the downloaded sga file into root/gameassets/mods and create a shortcut to dow2.exe with a -mod 2p_ile_dostoya parameter.

_______________________________________________
(2p)Ancient Rites takes place on a battered and old Eldar shrine to Kaela Mensha Khaine, The Eldar god of war and destruction. A thunderstorm hangs in the sky above, pelting the combatants below while ancient torches crackle and light the way to bloodshed. Parts of the water boil, a raging fire glimpsable just beneath the tense surface.

The map is designed to feel balanced but at the same time give a different feel for each side. This map is more spread out then most 1v1 maps due to adjustments made so that teleporting/jump troops would not have travel advantages over non-teleporting/jump troops. The map is pretty balanced as far as faction vs faction goes, along with commander vs commander.

This map was made specifically for Relic's 1v1 Community Map Contest of August 2009.

Hi,
This map is setted on the Jungelplanet "Catachan".
The Planet is known for its aggressive vegetation,
settlements are always in danger to get "eaten" by the jungel,
just like this area, which was a given up waterreservoir a few weeaks ago.

(2p) Mirage
Author: Scampie
Launch Option: -mod 2p_mirage (full install instructions in the .txt file)

Download: Mediafire

1v1 map using a mixture of Jungle and Desert environments to make a tropical paradise type look. Thanks go out to Relic for DoW2, The organizers of the Community Map Contest for giving me a reason to be motivated to make a DoW2 map, my friend Lunaran for inspiration, and my pals at The Ammo Can and Func_Msgboard for encouragement and testing.

Flavor Text!
Mirage was a once idyllic paradise world, it's strange climate creating what Man would see as beaches in the middle of mountainous jungles... but the discovery of it's wealth of resources thanks to this unique atmosphere has guided the Imperium of Man to set up a discrete mining operation on the planet. The world was plunged into the chaos of war when the Eldar returned to the world, an ancient home to the Extrodites, to find it had become yet another prospect for Men. Amidst the fighting, the Tyranid Hive Fleet inevitably arrived to devour the world and the Orks came to sun bathe, and noticed there was a fight.
