Awesome, I stumbled across ToH back in the day and that it why i started playing. Thanks so much for doing this! It is also how i was referred to this community. Thanks a bunch Bridger, both for uploading and for making these super casts in the first place

One of the latest episodes, with the 1-0 VP win and the bergetirger reviving the KT - what episode was that? That was freakin' epic!

Bridger: Vitensby:

Thanks to you for doing all the work on these. Have watched / kept an eye on this for years. Not sure of the history, so I'll ask a few questions, and maybe in reference and as a recap you two could answer a few Q's just for fun

1. When you made the vids, what tools/software did you use, and did you need additional hardware (I'm thinking skype + game needs 2 soundcards?)

2. We miss you guys, was there something that hacked you off, the game got tired? You did not like new versions? and you stopped, or you moved on through a lack of time?

3. Do you still play, or have you moved on totally?

I'm pondering doing a weekly or monthly replay show, mainly for fun, to be distroed via torrent - any advice? tongue.gif

I believe that was episode 68 or so? Was that the King of the 88 episode?

There was a series of tools actually. For audio I have a small mixing board and multiple sound cards so I get a separate channel for each; my voice, skype (cohost voice), and game sounds.

Video started with a composite video capture card (uses the normal RCA yellow plugs or S-Video). Later I wanted to do HD so I acquired an HDMI capture card but that didn't work out well. It had all kinds of problems. Then I moved on and just used FRAPS on one machine to capture in full raw format (60+ gigs per episode!) and compressed that down to something like 1.5 gigs in editing. Only issue here was sound not linking up with video all the time. Often I would have to go through the whole video adjusting the audio syncing with the video. Another issue is game slow-down. I had to lower the graphics settings as fraps would use a large chunk of processor power. I also tried gamecam (planetgamecam.com) and it worked great and exactly what I wanted but had a bug with CoH where it would crash after about 4 minutes. Something to do with the mouse drivers.

Finally toward the end I found a component capture box that I could USB into my macbook pro to capture video from my main machine (rather than running the game on the macbook and capturing in the main). It is what I am currently using and is called the Hauppauge HD PVR. So far it's working quite well and i'm capturing in 1080i.

I lost interest in the game. The show was a labor of love. I tried continuing the show despite lost interest but I felt that the quality of the show was failing. With less incentive to play the game I got sloppy discussing strats as I lost sight of the meta-game and I didn't have vits there to keep me honest sad.gif With less interest in the game I also did a more rush job on the editing and promotion and sometimes would procrastinate more than I should have. I decided that I should end the show instead of letting the quality continue to slide.

Sorry to say I havn't played in a while. I blame the forums! Every time i think about going to play and check the forums I see all kinds of threads talking about how there's still no patch and there's all these bugs and I lose all interest.

Listen to and watch your own stuff. Try to critique yourself. If you can get someone you trust to be straight with you to watch it and get honest reactions. I know I evolved my style a lot during the show in reaction to the responses from the community. Often in the early shows I would cut off vitensby in mid sentence. I had to work on that a lot tongue.gif

GameCam might be the easiest/lowest priced option if you wanted to actually record video (rather than recording audio and syncing it up with a replay). I believe the newer versions work with CoH now.
