Welcome to the Zero Hour World Series 2011 Discussion Topic!
This topic will be maintained by Opsnyder and AwfuL. In the first post you will find a list of all participants with links to their GR profiles. In the following posts you will find the information for each round.
How do I report my games? All World Series games need to be uploaded into the ZH replay system. It is therefore very important that you save ALL your replays, wins AND losses.
When you upload your replay into the system please name it in the following style:
WS Round x Player A Vs Player B Game x
Play your WS games under your Gamereplays name to avoid confusion, not your clanwars nickname for example.
The first round has started! Please check the matchups in the Brackets image below and contact your opponent using the List of Participants in the first post of this topic. The deadline for playing your matches is February 10th! The format is Best of 5, random armies unless both players agree to play a match up. Read the WS Announcement for more info on how to save your replays and where to upload them.

Map of the First round: Sand Serpent!
A map which is barely played and disliked by lots of players. But if you try to play the map a few times you will see it’s one of the better maps EA has to offer us. The map requires very different gameplay than the popular maps and will require some adaptation from the players. The first thing you will notice about this map are the rivers which cut the map in 4 different islands. The biggest islands are on the top and the bottom and this is where the players start. These areas only have 1 supply and 1 oil which means most players will instantly try to gather income from other parts of the map. The most likely way of gaining this income is to get the oils of which 2 are located at the top of the map and 1 in the middle. And then there’s the island on the left which has 2 supply stashes. The players can only reach each others base by using the 2 bridges or the middle, which has a lot of buildings. This means most fights will be about the supplies on the map rather than attacks on each others bases.
Highlighted matchups - by Opsnyder:
Rising vs AwfuL – The GR admin battle This battle will be between GR Moderation Admin AwfuL and ex Zero Hour Game Admin Rising. This is not the only reason why this is a highlighted matchup though. Both are good players that will definitely give us a good fight to watch. The odds are in favor of Rising. Last cXn tourney Rising defeated several good players and won the tournament quite handily. He showed some great skill and is one of the tournament favorites. AwfuL doesn’t play 1v1 too often but can be quite a challenge for even the best players as he showed in the last cXn tourney where he almost defeated the finalist KaRRo.
Yumi vs SiZe – The expert battle This battle will be fought between 2 players with an Expert badge. They’re both old school players that played ZH before most of the current players. The odds are probably in favor of SiZe. He has been quite active, won a cXn tournament and is probably the best player of the moment. Yumi has less notable achievements but is definitely a though opponent as he demonstrated in the last cXn tournament against Rage. One tip for Yumi: if you win, dont give SiZe a rematch .
HaWkY vs Crazy – The bunker battle A game which can go either way. HaWkY has an expert badge, was 4th in the last cXn tournament and plays a lot of 1v1’s and would thus seem to be the clear favorite. Crazy is a lesser known player because he rarely visits Gamereplays or joins tournaments but he is a good player which will surely give HaWkY some very hard games. Both players have a reputation of being campers, add to this Sand Serpent with all of its chokepoints and you got a recipe for 100kb+ games. I can’t wait.

The second map: North America!
This round will be played on the map North America. Just like the name suspects, the map is shaped as the North American continent. Last round we had Sand Serpent with its bottlenecks and lots of buildings, this time North America is the opposite with a very open battlefield. The biggest part of the map is flat and the entire map doesn't have a single garrisonable structure on it. It does have several technical structures on it though. The most important are the oil platforms located near the players’ bases. Besides that, there are 2 oil refinery’s, a repair bay and a drop zone. These technical structures are mostly ignored though. Each player starts with 1 supply dock in his base and there are 2 other supply docks in the middle. So the money is more scarce than on most other maps in this tournament.
Highlighted matchups - by Opsnyder
AwfuL vs Gattuso – Netherlands vs Russia/Latvia A matchup that can go either way. Gattuso is from Latvia but is part of the Russian community. Together with his mate Vodk1n he’s clearly the best this community has to offer. He has spammed a lot of games recently in which he managed to win a lot of games against good players so he’s definitely tough to beat. On the other side we have AwfuL. A player who doesn’t play a lot of 1v1s but he surprised many by defeating tourney favorite Rising in the first round. Together they should be able to produce some exciting games to watch.
SiZe vs Hawky – Expert battle number 2 Just like in the first round SiZe has to play against a ZH expert. In total there were only 3 Zero Hour experts in this tournament which means that after this game only 1 ZH expert is left in the tournament. Thus increasing the chances that someone without a expert badge will win the WS. Like mentioned before, SiZe is probably the best ZH player at the moment and will be the favorite in this matchup. However, Hawky won quite convincingly against Crazy and will definitely be able to beat SiZe. Especially when it comes to GLA mirrors.
Rage vs Vodk1n – Netherlands vs Russia 2 Another matchup which has potential for some great games. Both players used to play together in –MaD| and will know each other well. Rage is probably the favorite as he been very active the past months and is currently one of the best players. In tournaments he has never really achieved a lot so he has something to proof this time. Vodk1n is clearly the best Russian player and will definitely be able to give Rage some very hard games.

Forgotten Forest
This round will be played on Forgotten Forest. Like its name suggests there are a lot of trees on this map. I’m not sure what’s so forgotten about it though as the map is filled with civilian structures. The height of the terrain varies constantly which makes certain areas too steep for units to drive on. There are also a lot of buildings and walls and at the bottom there's a small river. Because of all this, the terrain is a challenge by itself. Both players start with 1 supply dock and several supply crates, which enables the Chinese factions to go dual supply, increasing their fighting chances considerably. The fights on this map tend to concentrate around the supply crates (as they are easily harrassable) and the two oil platforms located at the top and bottom corner.
Spotlighted matchups (by Opsnyder)
SiZe vs Rage Ironically in the last World Series, SiZe and Rage also had to play each other in the third round on the same map. Size won quite convincingly with 4-0 but I don’t think he will be able to reproduce this as RaGe has proven to be among today's top 1v1 gamers. Among their games was a very good infantry vs stealth game which was late on honored as being one of the best games of the year. Whatever the outcome, there is no doubt they will produce some very good games.
Gattuso vs Soryu Two players which aren’t seen a lot in big tournaments will meet each other this round. Not much people would have guessed that one of them would be among the top 4 players but that’s exactly whats gonna happen. Whoever wins this round will have good chances to win a prize and might even reach the finals. Both players have won 5 games and lost 2 games so far. I have personally not seen many games played between them so time will tell who is the better player.

Barren Badlands
The semifinals will be played on Barren Badlands. This is one of the most balanced maps. The player positions are basically mirrored, and both have equal chances to grab the supplies and oils. USA does not dominate as much as on other maps, as their secondary is pretty vulnerable to harassment unless they decide to fortify it, which would put them in a defensive position. China has a decent chance versus GLA as there are no real choke points in between the two bases, while there is plenty opportunity to flank dragon tanks.
The contestants
SiZe vs KaRRo In last month's cXn tourney KaRRo beat SiZe 4 -1 but the armies generally were not in SiZe's favour. This time, the two rivals will be crossing swords on a more balanced map, which should help put the memories of USA vs vanilla China on Heartland Shield behind us. As tourney hosts, we hope the players will also decide to play a few match ups instead of betting on their random luck. Personally, I (AwfuL) hope to see a stealth mirror as this is the perfect map for those
GooGle vs Gattuso GooGle and Gattuso are both skilled players who consistently end up at the top of the warrior rankings in clanwar, as they spam a lot of games with a decent win %. Both players have a very different playing style, with GooGle usually opting for aggressive strategies, being especially strong in USA mirrors, while his USA vs China could be classified as 'abusive'. Gattuso players much safer, so it should be interesting to see who will prevail.

With the 4th round behind us, we're now looking forward to the Finals between GAttuso and SiZe. The winner will know the honour of being crowned the World Series 2011 Champion. Will SiZe claim the victory in an attempt to make the world forget his defeat at the hands of ExCaL in the 2010 WS, or will it be the underdog GAttuso who takes home the trophy?
Aside from the main act, the other two Semi-Finalists, KaRRo and GooGle, will fight for the bronze medal.
Both battles will take place on the familiar grounds of Tournament Desert in a Best of 9 match.

Tournament Desert
There's hardly anything I can say about Tournament Desert that everyone doesn't already know. It's one of the most balanced, if not the most balanced official maps. As it's played so often we can be sure that the contestants will be at their best on this map.
