if ur planning on getting them all eventually i would recommend get the first one + the uo expansion. i havent checked but i wouldnt count on finding alot of people to play multiplayer against. nonetheless it's a fun game. cod2 is like a well polished version of the first 1. most people consider it the best iteration competitively speaking. if ur in north america however u wont have too many multiplayer servers to choose from either cus of the other 3 cods released since.
cod4 has a competitive following and i think it already outlasted cod:waw, which is actually a rly good game now after they released all the patches. mw2 is the newest and ofc the most popular at the moment but alot of people on pc are coming back to cod4 at least for the competitive aspect.
if ur not rly into multiplayer as much as single player then i would start with the first game. the SP is much longer and more in depth. the newer versions like cod4 play more like a movie and are fun the first time but easily get boring after the first go thru.
to sum it up, if ur looking for single-player get the first one, if ur looking for a casual multiplayer experience get either cod4 or cod:waw, if ur looking for a competitive multiplayer experience get cod4.
i was gonna put mw2 as a decent casual multiplayer game but i just cant in good conscience recommend that game to anyone.

thx for the in depth guide! yh i hav waw on xbox and found it pretty good mostly for nazi zombies when stioned^^ i think imgonnaget cod4 as its what most ppl are telling me. id like mw2 but il play 4 before i get that game! again thx for the info:D
lol u say tht while ur fav. game is also cod4. cs may be better but i wouldnt call cod2 or cod4 promod terrible.
explain how cod4 promod, which for intensive purposes destroyed cod4 in north america, and hit the EU scene hard is not bad? Are you that stuck on what the ub3r 1337 top pro gaymers say that you can't see how promod fucked up the competitive community.
Dont get em started on cod2, I played at the top tier in cod2, i scrimed maybe 2 or 3 times a weak the games learning curve was so ridiculously low that any decent fps players could be gods. I enjoyed the game because it require zero time devotion the only thing you needed to practice was 2 or 3 set nades a map and you were golden. two winning steps to cod2 1.get a gun 2. jump from behind an object iron sighted. Congrast you have just used the primary method of fighting at the top levels of the game.
lol yaya stop pretending like u were ever good at either game. all ur posts are cynical and try to give the impression ur better than anyone reading them. my point was plain and simple, I was showing ur hypocrisy in stating the cod series was terrible yet uve played it so much and list cod4 as ur favorite game. Either way jbee is probably not even interested in highly competitive play so making an argument about the competitiveness of these games seems entirely irrelevant to the thread.

Well I was cal main for cod, never said i was good at it, I was cal I, cevo P at cod2, in cod4 i was cal main as well, hell i only showed up once a week for the match. Was I good at the game yes, does that carry much merit, no. The game was easy to play if you ever had a hard time with you then your pretty horrible at fps games. I listed cod4 as my favorites game because its the only game on GR I have any real relationship with, I was making an argument over how garbage the series has become, but you know maybe you can continue to play in blissful ignorance.
If i go by my xfire I have a grand total of 300 hours of cod4, its not a difficult game to learn or play.
I answered him, I said none of them, you said start with cod? why you advise him to start with that? Its single player was great but look at it multiplayer, I can Google hacks for it, pb is dead for it. majority of the servers run awe, what else?
But since he plays console cod4, waw or mw2 are his choices, WAW is def the best choice, go with a dev that actually supports the community.

lol i saw one of ur demos, ur not good. slow reflexes/aim, no strafing, bumping into everything, very slow play especially for smg etc and the team u were playing was even worse. ive seen btr from twl teams. i dont c how u equate having been in cal-m with being good.
series has become garbage, yes but u seem to have spent alot of time at something u thought was garbage from the start. the OP wanted to know which game in the series to play. i was trying to give him something constructive and tell him wat to expect cus i didnt know wat he liked and didnt assume he wanted to be some leet gamer. ur comment however was pointless, added nothing to the thread and didnt help him at all.

LOL can you read, i never said cal main = good, i said the game so poor that it take zero skill to be cal main. I'm not sure what demo you watched, but i've never once claimed to be good at cod4, i think i'm horrible, but the majority of other people are far worse .
Strafing dude? wtf does that even mean this isn't quake theres no strafe movement other then specific straf jumps. Now if you mean montion side to side that means nothing on how good or bad you are thats jsut a preference of play. I tend to walk backwards alot and face where i'm moving. Its a habit I pick up from other games I used to play.
I semi enjoy cod, I think the fact that people consider the game to be competitive kind of a joke, but 1 hour a week to play consistently with people who are at your level of play is not to bad. It beats pubbing any game and constantly dumping on the other players.
You told him to play vcod, how does that help him? hey bro go play completely dead game, with rampant hacking and next to no good servers. Thats awesome advice, high five for you o/.
As far as the twl comment, whoa pro thats what we call elitist as well as ignorance from someone who hasn't really competed in the series. You assume like many other that TWL teams are bad when in cod1 and cod2 some of the best team in the game for NA played in said league. There are still quite a few good teams, TWL offers a step back from the uber elitist style community we have developed. The worse thing TWL has going for it is admins that are very biased and unfair thus drive teams away. Harest match I ever played int he cod series was vcod HQ season1 finals in TWL, played team paradox (AND GOT DESTROYED), one of the all time strongest lineups in the series. Go figure good teams playing in twl get you head out of the sand........
But heres the sad thing out of all of this, I was cal main, i'm bad at cod4, but for the little time i put into the game i've gotten up in a league higher then you, go figure. I wonder how good you are?

Contradiction?

u can improve ur speed alot just by strafing and strafe jumping. ur movements were rigid and slow. u couldnt attack people quickly and tht got u killed alot. could've helped on the pallet jump too. it may pass against bad teams but u wont find anyone moving like tht in higher league play.

if u re-read wat i said i told him the multiplayer was basically dead but tht the SP was longer and enjoyable. again, i didnt assume he wanted competitive play. wat if he just wants to play SP?

i was looking at ur performance in cod4 not any other cod. twl is a joke in cod4. i help out my old team thunder in twl and drop 30-40 each match so yes it is easy and i dont think u could disagree tht it is (at least now) the lowest lvl of competitive play in NA.

i play on the newly formed Negative Energy. im the scope. we're currently in xpl and r undefeated but will tryout for cevop as soon as season 5 starts. we're consistently beating top cevo-a teams. some cevop teams give us trouble but they dont destroy us either. im not bad nor am i any stevy but im definitely btr than u at least by wat is reflected from ur demo. u might have something more recent and prove me wrong. i know ive improved alot just in the last 3 months and been playing competitively since the summer and tht demo was wat a year a ago? but if u stopped playing since...

LoL, read more i was good at cod2, but i challenge you to find one post were i said im good at cod4.
Strafe jumping on what its not fucking quake? Strafe jumps only work to go over certain objects, and hate to ruin your day but my poor methods of play dont really matter because i'll just have my team mates pick up the slack, i'ma back up not a starter. For the primary reason that I never want to scrim, I rather comp stomp on coh. The crash match you watch was an example of that me being back up, had i prepared would I of done better? maybe more then likely my preparation would have involed learn 5 set nades. At the end of the day set nades win and lose crash matches, if you win with out them the other team is just awful. I'm pretty sure (having shoutcasted every NA cod4 league) HTGN, XPL, WOGL, and a host of other leagues were as low as you could go for cod4 NA. You have next to no competitive exp, but TWL and OGL used to be the only leagues a person would play, they've gone to shit because of bad admining. However with cal dead there are not real decent lax leagues other then TWL. I always played twl, did not have to really worry about prep much and most of the teams are far friendlier and cooler then the elitist prick filled top competitive community cod has developed. So i'll dis agree with you now as Ican point out mroe then 6 leagues with worse competitive play.
cod SP was short you tool
XPL... lets all go play in a league that took 4 years to start up!!!!!!!!!!
Well hers the thing, all the good teams stopped playing after season 3, you can't argue that fact. Thats why I stopped shout casting cod4, there was no point. every other match was watching team A get obliterated by one of 4 remaining good teams in the game. Or watching Team A and team B blatantly cheat each other. Go practice for CEVO P unlike you I've held the title before it doesn't make your e penis grow, but if your that into your gayming career go for it. At the end of the day you are playing in a game on its last legs.
But like I said i have not played since season2, but know something I could join a cevo P team next season if I wanted. Wanna know why? Cause i'm popular <3 PEACE bro have fun playing a dead game. Makes me laugh thinking how much more time you invest to reach the same status, and you call me bad............

whoa.. rage. idk where to start pointing out all the things wrong wit ur post between the cod1 having short campaign yet longer than cod4 or mw2 or the fact tht ur werent even a starter for a team no ones ever heard of, or u thinking ur popular and could compete in cevop. im just playing for fun, not like anyone could ever make serious money out of this game u could get more working at mcdonalds.
i got into competition late but improved quickly and am able to hold my own against people tht have been playing since the beginning like prank. uve been playing these games forever and shoutcasting them and u talk to me about a waste of time...btw xpl is the only league tht didnt lock registration by the time our team was made, its a joke and we plan on dropping it anyway. and twl's gonna be an easy championship for my old team and we're not even good. if the game dies so be it i just wanna have fun and compete before it does, im not gonna have alot of time to be playing video games soon enough so its probably my first and only game ill be competing in.
great game either way hope ur having fun jbee. add me on xfire if u want name: l3gionaire
I like how you lied about your teams xpl record, I asked around <3
But as far as popularity, my forum alias is not the same as my game alias, and surprise surprise cevo P doe snot mean you that good broskii. not sure were you think its an elite status the cod series has always had 5 good teams and the rest were garbage. But cod campaign was shorter then Uo's , shorter then CoD2's. It was also less action packed compared to mw1 or 2. Who ever said I played for money? The only time i ever got stuff related to cod was when I shout casted an got sponsor crap, NA cod produces a grand total of maybe 20,000 for a whole year, that if you attend every small lan and get first. Hence why i said welcome to a dead competitive experience, if you play for fun why brag about you 4- 0 record? clearly its more then fun for you, try face ON.
Your able to hold you own against a player that has not played the gae since the euro lans, wait wait. You think that fragging a top player = holding you own. DUDE get real, i'll drop 20 plus kills against pandemic and still get rolled. The best teams in the series for NA play don't play the kills the play the gametype. But as I said my 5 plus hour for cod2 a week got me into cevo P and cal I, you play more then that and your in XPL. You even agree its a joke league, but had i not provided roof to that point you would of been happy in blissful ignorance that the league you were participating in was highly regarded. But again BRO, you missed competition, not sure how it could be fun. You clearly have yet to even read the communities forums or play against the upper tier teams with the statements you make. You could humor me and look at screen shots of past pandemic and Eg matches you'll find most of the time they dominated in score but where close in frags with the other team. You could drop 40 plus kills each match but it meaningless if you can't plant a bomb.
whos raged me or the person who went back through the forums just to look at a demo i post, and in said demo post i stated the hilarity of the match seeing as throw me and my other backup team mate did nothing and we still won <3. Being a backup is not a relation of skill but more so activity.
