Is it to avoid spam of a unit ? if yes why it's often the expensive unit which have the higher upkeep ? An expensive unit can't be spam and always see battle field in the end game so it's not really an handicap? no ? It's to avoid spam of powerfull unit ? the Deff Dread : 30.6 upkeep, Rangers : 7.7 upkeep ...
I don't see really a logic, maybe upkeep is not used enough to balance DOW2 ? ( COH : upkeep was a powerfull way to balance some units IMO )
I think upkeep could be a good way to balance early powerfull units, better than nerf a unit to uselessness.

Whats so difficult to understand about upkeep? More units = more upkeep. So one guy with 99 popcap cant be floating a shit-ton of res on the side as well. It gives the other guy a fighting chance. It prevents a snowball effect.

You are reading it wrong. Its 7.7/ranger. Whats so difficult to understand about upkeep? More units = more upkeep. So one guy with 99 popcap cant be floating a shit-ton of res on the side as well. It gives the other guy a fighting chance. It prevents a snowball effect.
Why you talk about pop cap ? Popcap is not upkeep. ranger pop cap : 9, upkeep : 7.7
Allows you to field a larger T1 army due to high rec availability. You can easily field 1500 rec worth of SM units in T1 for example, but it limits the income later in the game so fielding 1500 rec worth of T3 tanks is comparatively harder.
You'll find upkeep price is based on a unit's pop cap. Around 2.55 upkeep cost per 1 population.
http://dow2.info/Info:Upkeep Income Drain This change was reverted in 1.2.1 In patch 1.1.3, an additional mechanism has been introduce to tax all units on the battle field regardless of the population, each unit decrease the overall income by a certain percentage, this effect stacks with regular upkeep.
One guy with a massive army getting full income would mean the other guy has absolutely no chance of winning. Why is this hard to understand? And why is it suddenly an issue?
Where i said it's an issue ? I just say "we could think about upkeep to balance units if needed " Why is this so hard to understand ?
"You cant balance powerful units by raising upkeep. The powerful units will just take the map and completely negate it." You played COh no ? Did we increase rangers upkeep or not ?

this is enligthening, but for what is 'saving squads for' ? sometimes I am happy losing a shootassquad or a hwteam because it allows me to spamm looted tanks or stuff even faster.....

Uh... CoH also had no req points. All the MP income came from the HQ.
Was quite awesome these days, where yourforth riflemansquad came full 8 seconds earlier then the wehrmachts counterpart. SPR-strat was quite OP in 1.71.
