British Unit Guide - Kangaroo

By Otherside - 3rd May 2009 - 00:45 AM

To round up our British ToV unit guide, Otherside and VelocityGirl created a guide for the Kangaroo Carrier. This is a unique vehicle that is actually quite useful.

The Kangaroo Carrier

Name: Kangaroo
Replaces: Cromwell Tank
Cost: 240 mp, 10 fuel
Abilities: None
Upgrades: None
Description: Armored Personal Carrier

1. Pros: The Kangaroo is cheap, tough and with the right kind of infantry inside, devastating. The best combo for the Kangaroo is 1 PIAT squad and 1 Bren Tommy Section; this gives great AI and AT. LT's and Captains should also be placed inside, as they can gain veterancy from inside and a extremely effective rate, while inside infantry are completely protected from sniper and flamer attacks. The Kangaroo is also effective at crushing enemy infantry.

2. Cons: While the Kangaroo is great with upgraded infantry inside, without them it is worthless. To get effective use of them you need at least 2 Kangaroos with 2 PIAT units and 2 Brenned or similar units to place inside. Contrary to popular belief, units inside the Kangaroo can be killed when it is destroyed. This is often the fate of LT's and sometimes captains. Of course, losing a Vet 3 LT inside an Kangaroo can often be a heavy blow.

3. Summary: Whether or not to use the Kangaroo is a difficult question; it replaces the Cromwell which is seen to many as the backbone of the British army. In most battles, you place all your units inside 2 Kangaroos which condenses your forces, making them a lot less effective compared to having all your units in the field. Kangaroos are fantastic on maps with low amounts of fuel and if pressed can often win battles. However, with enough fuel, it is almost always better to go with Cromwells.
When factoring whether or not to use them, consider if your strategy or build order includes the units which will make maximum benefit inside Kangaroos. if your strategy is low on infantry, is better to go with Cromwells.

Stat notes on the Kangaroo :
  • Can hold 15 units or 4 squads, whichever comes first. Units inside the Kangaroo are invulnerable until the Kangaroo is destroyed and take no damage upon exiting.
  • 650 hp, has medium crush, has Cromwell armor.
  • Has worse acceleration than a Cromwell (1.7 v 2.2) but better top speed and rotation (6.5 v 5.0 and 50 v 35), respectively.
  • Requires 4 pop to the Cromwell's 8.
