Wehrmacht Unit Guide - Schwimmwagen

By sjceran - 3rd May 2009 - 23:34 PM

Resuming with the coverage on the new Tales of Valor units, sjceran and VelocityGirl have written a guide on the Wehrmacht Schwimmwagen. This is a radically new unit for the Wehrmacht army and has generated quite a few questions.

1.Pros: The Schwimmwagen is an interesting addition to the Wehrmacht arsenal. It flaunts a menacing MG42, while the drivers cruise through France in luxury. It replaces the beloved bike, which means that it has large shoes to fill. The SW performs well in battle against infantry, but it retains the same vulnerability to small arms fire as the bike. It mows down engineers at a moderate range, and is advantageous in large infantry skirmishes. However, the paramount function of the SW is the ability to reverse. Formerly, bikes needed to make a huge rotation which exposed its rear to enemy fire. The SW resolves that problem and has a few other perks too. It can travel through water without penalty, just like its PE counterpart. Finally, it has nearly fifty percent more health than a bike, so its durability allows it to push the envelope a little farther during battle.

2. Cons: However, the SW comes with a few noticeable problems. The most noteworthy is its build time. It takes fifteen seconds longer to build, a total of forty-five, which actually inconveniences early resources and the like. A significant problem occurs to those players who relished the quick bike start. After a few trials, we found that the following Volksgrenadier squad is delayed an annoyingly sized amount in capping, which pushes back Wehrmacht territory. In addition, the SW is slightly slower than the bike. Of course, the extra health and reversing benefits needed to be balanced out in some ways, in addition to the 60 manpower increase.

3.Summary Overall, the SW is pretty useful and it does pack a punch. A decision between the bike and a SW mainly comes down to preference. If you choose the SW though, I would highly suggest you get it as a second unit because its build time really does put you in a slight disadvantage. Other than that, it is a very good unit and definitely worth a shot in any type of game.
