Capturing Points - Tips and Tricks

Capturing points is the most basic fundamental of CoH, one that completely seperates it from all its other RTS brethren. What's there to know about capturing points? Right click on the point and the point's captured. Simple enough it seems. However, there are several more layers to it than that you may or may not have known.

Capture Speed

By default, the normal capture rate is 1 but not every unit captures at that speed. Below is a list of exceptions to the default capture speed.

American Army
Riflemen - 1.5
Airborne - 1.25
Rangers - 1.25

British Army
Bren Carrier with infantry inside - 0.85

Wehrmacht
Grenadiers - 1.5
Stormtroopers - 1.5

Panzer Elite
Panzer Grenadiers - 0.75


Abilities
There are a handful of abilities that are specifically designed around capture points. Use these to your advantage.

Raid - for the American Army under Armor Company, this lets light vehicles capture points at the default speed.

Booby Trap
- for the Panzer Elite under Scorched Earth, this allows all PGs to be able to rig points with explosives.

Scorched Earth - for the Panzer Elite under Scorched Earth, gives PGs the ability to completely disable a point instantly.

Field Craft - upgradeable for the Panzer Elite in the Kampfgruppe Kompanie, enables all PGs to a capture speed of 1.2525.

Advanced Warning - for the Wehrmacht Army, increases the visual range on all friendly points.

Registered Artillery - for the Wehrmacht Army, lets you call off-map artillery to one of your points.


Tips and Tricks


Pushing
- with the jeep you can "push" units off a point and stop them from capturing. With the jeep selected, right-click and drag near/next to the unit to push once. Keep right-clicking and dragging multiple times in quick succession to continue pushing.

Spotting Booby Traps - if you zoom into the point, you can actually see the explosives on the point itself.

Dodging Booby Traps - an easy way to get around booby traps is to right click on the point, then immediately after the unit touches it, right click in front of the unit. The unit will move forward while the booby trap will explode behind it. The booby trap targets 1 member of the squad at the moment of the capture. You can immediately resume capturing after moving the unit forward. Also note that light vehicles raiding will not be harmed by booby traps.

Waypoint Capturing - you can set waypoints from base buildings to a point by clicking on the building then right clicking onto a point. This makes it so that the unit will immediately go to capture that point as soon as its built.

Capturing Vulnerability - while capturing points, squads receive negative cover attributes meaning they take more damage. Don't ever risk losing a squad simply to finish a cap, even for a high resource, because manpower is a far more valuable commodity.
