Tip of the Week General #72 - Dealing with the M8/Stuart rush in 2v2:

By Decs. - 17th August 2008 - 12:38 PM

The number one priority when dealing with these light vehicles is to not get pushed off the field early. Getting pushed off will allow the Americans to cap and the Brits to entrench and build emplacements, which makes winning doubly difficult. The longer the game goes the less effective and important the m8s and stuarts become, so even if you are just fighting off the vehicles and not killing them you’re still being somewhat successful.

T2/T4 PE:

1) Teller Mines – If you suspect a team will go light vehicles first (they may be losing slightly, you see no bars, you see a captain out before sappers, etc), chosing tank destroyers is an excellent option. Mines put on roads and chokepoints are an excellent way to slow down or kill the light vehicles. Mines almost always damage or destroy the engine of m8s and stuarts and makes it easy to destroy them with shreks.
2) Tank Awareness – Once you have tank awareness it makes it easy to anticipate where the vehicles are coming from and get your defenses setup correctly.
3) Get a shrek or two by the 8 minute mark. Putting a shrek in an infantry HT can also protect the squad and make it difficult for the m8 or stuart to kill the squad.
4) Alternatively, the t2 player can instead go straight to t4 instead of researching shreks immediately and build an at ht, which is extremely effective against m8s/stuarts, as long as they have support.

T1/T3 PE:

1) T1/T3 PE is extremely dependant on their teammate for early at as marders can’t be left unsupported. Eventually marders will become the main AT of the axis team, but early in the game there isn’t enough fuel and thus the other player needs to have shreks to support the marders.
2) Teller mines put in good places can nearly take out an m8 or stuart by themselves.
3) The Marder – The best AT axis has. Despite it being the best, it’s very vulnerable to fast moving vehicles and thus needs to be supported by either a second marder (or more depending on how many vehicles the opponent has) or better yet, shreks. Most vehicles will auto target the marder when circling it, allowing shrek squads to shoot at the vehicle with impunity.

Wehr:

1) Mines – Mines put on roads and chokepoints are an excellent way to slow down or kill the light vehicles. Mines almost always damage the engine of m8s and stuarts and makes it easier to destroy them with shreks.
2) The PAK – the pak is the best thing wehr has early to destroy light vehicles. It’s invisible for the first 3 shots, and even the best of players have difficulty locating and dealing with paks if they’re positioned and supported correctly.
3) Shreks – The wehr shrek is better than the PE shrek, its on a squad with more men than a PG squad, and once grens reach vet2 they improve greatly. Keep in mind shreks are almost always for either finishing off a vehicle or supporting a pak or marder, they CANNOT be your main AT unit. Use Gren Shreked squads to finish off vehicles with low health or protect your pak or marder from being flanked.
4) FAUST IT – Panzerfausts are surprisingly good against light vehicles, 3 fausts will kill an m8 or stuart. It can be useful to keep the vehicle away while moving your pak up, or to finish off a vehicle that’s about to get away. The problem is that it’s relatively expensive in munitions and will take away from more shreks, mines, or other munitions heavy abilities wehrmacht relies on.
5) Upgunned Pumas – Upgunned Pumas will beat an m8 or stuart 1v1 easily. The downside is that the puma is in t3, and t3 is terrible, even in 2v2s. I wouldn’t recommend doing this unless you’re bored and want to try something new.
