Arty shell that hits the TT doesnt do aoe damage to the 88 I think, and atguns will most of the time hit the TT rather than the 88 gun. It doesnt work 100% but whenever it works, it helps the 88 stay alive.

IIRC, the 88 benefits from green cover if you put sandbags on its legs, so the tank trap should fullfill the same thing, while being more resilient to artillery, and of course, you don't have to worry about your tanks crushing the sand bags (except Panther and Tigers).
