Our map contest is finished and at long last the
THQ legal department have sacrificed the required lamb to allow the announcement of the winner! As you no doubt know, the winner of the contest was judged by a moderately executive panel including the ever present TASk3R, our friendly Relic Balance Designer, and our very own Thunder, the Relic Community Manager. Our winner will receive his name in lights (figuratively speaking) and have his map included in an official patch for
Chaos Rising, coming soon.
Judged on both aesthetic quality, the overall balance and re-playability of the submitted maps, the panel of Judges had their work cut out for them. Huge thanks to everyone who submitted their creations, as well as a large GameReplays.org thank you to our Judges, TASK3R and Thunder, as well as our very own staff members; Blaqk, Raaar and the Overlord himself: God_Aries.
So then! To the victor, the spoils, and we certainly had a strong victor! Many congratulations to
brothier casius - AKA Aleksey Kurilovitch - who scooped the first prize with his exceptional 2-player map,
Hive City. As member of the judging panel responsible for balance, TASK3R was an outspoken advocate for the well-designed nature of his glorious brainchild:
Hive City is not only a good looking map but an example of strong fundamental map design. The power placement is well thought out. Having one power location close to the base and another in a more contestable area is a staple for many Dawn of War II 1v1 maps. Requisition points are placed to draw the player to interesting locations around the map. The circular set piece in the center is simple yet impressive and should provide interesting combat situations around the most prominent victory point. I have hesitations about only having two entrances to this area but overall I think it’s a solid set piece for possibly the most important point on the map.

Tornan Rapids by Chong,
Fedrid Folly by LondonDuncan and
Plaza Primarus by ValKor01. All three maps showcased great skill and well thought out design. You can view these and all the other submissions, alongside download links, in our
Map Contest Submission topic.
Congratulations again to brother casius, and many thanks to Relic for giving us such a great prize for the contest!
